Scientology has lasted for 70 years. Millions of believers on 4 continents. 20m+ sales of Dianetics. Some of the greatest actors of our generation belong. When will you admit you were wrong about the historicity of Xenu?

Stupid Crypto Talking Point #2 (Number go up)

"NuMb3r g0 Up!!!" / "Best performing asset of the decade!" / "Everyone who bought is "up" right now"

  1. Whether the "price of crypto" goes up, has absolutely no bearing on whether it's..

    a) A long term store of value

    b) Holds any intrinsic value or utility

    c) Or will return any value in the future

One of the most important tenets of investing is the simple principal: Past performance is not a guarantee of future returns. People in crypto seem willfully ignorant of this basic concept.

  2. At best, the price of crypto is a function of popularity, not actual value or material utility. And this "popularity" has been waning for years. Also transactions per block for bitcoin have stalled since 2023. For more on how and why crypto makes a much worse investment than almost anything else, see this article.

  3. The "price of crypto" is a heavily manipulated figure published by shady, unregulated crypto exchanges that have systematically been caught manipulating the market from then to now. A new 2025 Cornell study shows fewer than 500 people control $3.2T of artificial crypto trading!

  4. Crypto bros love to harp about "inflation" in the fiat system, yet ironically they measure the "value" of their "fiat alternative" in fiat? It makes absolutely no sense, unless you assume they haven't thought 2 seconds ahead from what comes out of their mouths.

  5. It's the height of hypocrisy for crypto people to champion token deflation (and increased prices) while ignoring that there's over $160+ Billion in unsecured stablecoins being used to inflate the value of their tokens in the crypto marketplace. The "code is law" and "don't trust - verify" people seem perfectly willing to take companies like Tether and Circle, at face value, that they're telling the truth about asset reserves when there's very little actual evidence, but there is lots of evidence of market manipulation.

  6. Not Your Fiat, Not Your Value - Just because you think the "value of your crypto portfolio" is worth $$$ does not make that true. It's well known there's inadequate liquidity in this market, and most people will never be able to get their money out. So UNLESS/UNTIL you can actually liquidate your crypto for actual real money, you have no idea what you have. You're "down" until you cash out. Bernie Madoff's clients got monthly statements saying they were "making money" too.

  7. Just because it's possible (though highly improbable) to make money speculating on crypto, this doesn't mean it's an ethical or reliable technique to amass wealth. At its core, the notion that buying and holding crypto will generate reliable returns is a de-facto ponzi scheme. It's mathematically impossible for even a stastically-significant percentage of crypto holders to have any notable ROI. The rare exception of those who might profit in this market, do so while providing cover for everything from cyber terrorism to human trafficking.

  8. It's also not true that anybody who bought crypto when it was low is guaranteed to make a lot of money. There are thousands of ways people can lose their crypto or be defrauded along the way. And there's no guarantee just because your portfolio is "up", that you could easily cash out.

  9. While crypto suggests itself as an alternative to "TradFi", the most respected and successful people in traditional finance who have proven track records of good investing/returns do not think crypto is a reliable store of value.

  10. Want to see a better asset (that actually has utility) that's consistently out-performed Bitcoin? Here you go. However, this may be another best performing asset.

  11. When crypto-critics make reference to, or mock crypto price predictions, it's not because we think price is a meaningful metric. Instead, we are amused that to you, that's all that's important, and we can't help but note how often wrong you are in your predictions. The intrinsic value of crypto basically never changes, but it is interesting to see how hype and propaganda affects the extrinsic value. In a totally logical world, those would both be equalized to zero, but we're not there yet, and nobody knows when/if that will happen because it's an irrational market.

My boy Saylor is buying high again.

So after selling 6916 BTC for a total of $430M. Last week he buys 4603 BTC for $370 Million. That's net selling of 2313 BTC for $60M. In aggregate, this is equivalent of selling at $25,904.

Their own "BTC yield" metric is negative year to date now.

I finally understand why Bitcoin is the future

After years of research, I’ve finally figured out the Bitcoin business model.

You buy magic internet beans because someone else told you they’ll be worth more later.

Then you wait.

If number goes up: GENIUS FINANCIAL INNOVATION.

If number goes down: YOU JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND THE TECHNOLOGY.

If you ask what Bitcoin actually produces:
“Have fun staying poor.”

If you ask why you need a $20 billion decentralized network to send $50:
“NGMI.”

If the price crashes 70%:
“THIS IS HEALTHY. WE'RE SHAKING OUT THE WEAK HANDS.”

And if it goes up 10%:
“ADOPTION IS HAPPENING.”

At this point I'm convinced Bitcoin isn't an investment.

It's a religion where the communion wafer is a hardware wallet and every financial loss is a test of faith.

Have fun staying solvent, I guess.

Has Anyone Lost Their Friend to Bitcoin?

I used to be agnostic towards Bitcoin. But ever since my close friend has become obsessed with Bitcoin, hearing anything about Bitcoin and/or AI makes my skin crawl.

Wanna talk about politics? It's somehow tied to Bitcoin. Wanna talk about economics? Bitcoin will replace the current economic system. Wanna share a personal problem? Bitcoin will solve it. Wanna talk about futurism? Futurism doesn't exist without Bitcoin.

It's gotten to the point where I don't want to talk about anything with substance and have resorted to short responses but he doesn't know the real reason.

20,999,999.69 coins?

I know this isn’t the highest quality post and has probably been discussed but my rtfm and use the search bar only come up with other results (or historical results), not specifically about this question on this sub, or even from normal people, so if someone can find any references or a thread discussing this, please point me the right way and ill be glad to learn! thanks!

So, as we all know, the cult of Bitcoin has a “hard” cap of “21 million“ coins. As we also know reality, after the last halving there are actually 20,999,999.69 coins in the wild ecosystem totally possible with the current architecture of the Bitcoin code and network.

Currently the code stops at that number with .31 coins unable to be mined.

That being said, do you think (I personally do) that bitcoin will readjust the reward for a block to be less than the lowest current allowed decimal (satoshi) allowing mining of fractions of a satoshi? will it be everyone adopting or will it be a fork again? I know that miners won’t be able to live on transactions alone. do you also think, as I do, that miners will stop mining and the bitcoin blockchain and processing will come to a halt at 20,999,999.69 coins? I personally think it’s a farce like the rest of Bitcoin and they will keep halving indefinitely to go less and less and less shavings of a piece of corn.

irrelevant, real World view of bitcorn and harsh replies when possible please, just make sure you educate me and send me links.

thanks!

Early Satoshi disciple wants to commit the ultimate sin

https://coinmarketcal.com/news/bitcoin-s-21m-cap-debate-returns-as-fees-remain-near-0-5

Peter Todd, an early Satoshi disciple and to some Satoshi himself, is proposing a permanent removal of the 21M supply cap.

Slowly but surely, as more and more miners stop being able to pay the bills, we will see this debate grow louder until they agree to commit the ultimate sin and introduce inflation.

So Trump’s family built a private dollar with secret Abu Dhabi money, got their own regulator to approve a federal bank, rewrote the rules while it scaled, and embedded it in infrastructure millions use daily. And now the CEO went on CNBC to say that proves there’s no conflict.
