It took me about 3-4 years and it's still not where I'd like it to be, but it's getting better. I still have quite a few insecurities, especially about whether I'm even attractive – well, the typical stuff, unfortunately. 😞

Progress Pics!

I’m 37, 6’1”. Started off 210 pounds, now weigh 193.5. Yesterday marks 10 weeks since I decided I’ve had enough of being fat. Since then I have lost 16.5 pounds. I still have a long way to go, but it feels really good to see serious progress. I think I need to get down to 170, but I’m mostly tracking based on how I look. But that would mean I still have almost 25 pounds to go. I have a very slender frame, so the weight is all in my gut and man boobs.

All I have been doing is tracking my calories and walking 2 miles twice per day (just started jogging yesterday, will do that twice per week). Once I’m down to where I want to be, I’ll start doing some strength training. I’m excited for next swimsuit season!

This is my second venture losing weight, after gaining it all back. It’s frustrating to know how much more I have to go, and where I’ve already been.
Nonetheless, I am still very proud of myself for starting again and finally seeing 199!
If I can do it, you can too!

Anyone else can't stand sugar anymore?

I've been slowly cutting back on sweets since February. Whenever I had something sweet before, I couldn't just eat half of it and save the rest for later. If I had a chocolate bar, I had to eat it the moment I opened it. This was almost daily btw.

When I started counting my calories, I had one Jaffa Cake per day, and I think I only had the willpower to do that because the app showed me how many calories it actually had. Yes, I know calories were always on the packaging, but it's different when you track ALL your food and you're like, wow, really? So many calories for this when I could have an actual meal and be full.

Now I'm at a point where I genuinely can't stand sugar anymore. Everything tastes too damn sweet. Yesterday I made "cookies" with oats and banana, and even the banana was too sweet. I was like, well damn, tomorrow I'll just mix oats with water and bake that shit because this is way too sweet.

Anyone else's taste buds completely changed?

Reverse dieting

Hello. This is my first post on Reddit and I have a question. I have been anorexic for 5 years. I have weight cycled my lowest bmi being 13 and after treatment and weight restoration night was 18.5

Recently I’ve slightly relapsed and want to recover without treatment. (I do have a therapist)
Anyways, I want to know how to properly reverse diet without gaining fat, face fat, excessive bloating, constipation etc.

I am eating 1000 calories a day now should I slowly increase by 50 every week? At 5’3 walking 2 miles a day and going to the gym to do Pilates or yoga 2-3 times a week what is my BMR or daily expenditure and how many calories should I work up to to maintain a weight that isn’t fat? Sorry these are a lot of questions I just really want to recover but I FINALLY got to a place where I feel fine about my body and I’m scared that’s all going to go away. Any advice would be appreciated!

Three months ago, I decided it was time to stop negotiating with myself.

I started with a 72-hour fast, then transitioned into what I consider truly clean eating. My primary food source has been grass-fed, grass-finished steak, along with roughly half a gallon of raw milk a day, while keeping the rest of my food as simple and natural as possible.

At 54 years old, three months later, I’m down 28 pounds.

But honestly, the number on the scale is probably the least impressive part.

Through mobility training and natural strength training, I’ve gained a tremendous amount of strength while also developing an incredible amount of mobility. I can move differently. I feel stronger. I feel more capable. And I’m discovering that getting older doesn’t necessarily mean accepting decline as inevitable.

For me, this hasn’t been about chasing a particular look or trying to turn back the clock.
It has been about stewardship.

I believe we’re responsible for what we do with what we’ve been given. That includes our bodies, our time, our strength, our discipline, and our ability to serve the people around us.
I’m learning that transformation doesn’t usually come from one massive decision. It comes from making better decisions over and over again, especially when nobody is watching.

At 54, I’m not interested in slowing down.
I’m interested in becoming stronger, more capable, more disciplined, and more useful.
And apparently, there’s still a lot of room to grow.

Prolonged low-calorie diet side effects

I've always had terrible relationships with food and my body, and I have lost a lot of weight in a short period of time, leaving me underweight, and now I've decided to share all the horrible side effects with Reddit

So, I'm a female, 17, when I decided to lose weight I wanted the process to be healthy, so I quit all junk food, but since I have problems with perfectionism, it went too far and I ended up restricting A LOT (all carbs, eggs, meat, dairy, basically all normal food), I decided to eat as least as I can since it didn't seem so hard, and somehow I was eating about 800 calories a day, counting EVERY SINGLE calorie and weighing everything, moreover I was walking at least for 2 hours every other day, it was like a rule that I couldn't break no matter if it's raining or if I'm tired, this lifestyle lasted for 8 months, I went from 67 kg (148 Ibs) to 43 kg (95 lbs),
I'm 170 (5'7)

So, the side effects:
1 Fatigue
I mean, you literally have zero energy and can't do any activities that require a lot of movement, I wanted to sleep all day, sometimes even standing up felt hard
2 It's really cold and you can't warm yourself
This started after 2 months of dieting, I always knew that when you lose weight you can feel cold, but I didn't except it to be THAT terrible, I put on layers of clothes and still couldn't get warm, even while everyone else was sweating, that made showering and going outside difficult
3 You become angry
I still feel guilty for shouting at my parents and friends while I was losing weight, it feels like you can't control yourself, you just get mad at anything, I don't remember a single time I felt happy
4 You become a boring person
When everything you do is count calories, cook disgusting low-calorie recipes and walk, you have no time and energy for fun activities, moreover you don't want to see your friends so you won't ruin your diet, everything that you enjoyed doing becomes boring and starts to feel useless
5 You lose your period
Haven't had mine for almost a year, I lost it 2 months after starting the deficit, I wouldn't say I miss it, but I think everyone knows that it's really important for women, and by the way I still can't get it even though I've gained the weight back, so be aware
6 You lose your muscle and your skin becomes saggy I think it's pretty obvious, but | just want to say that you can't save your muscle mass even if you hit your protein goal and workout 24/7, you'll lose it anyway and nothing will help you
7 You get more body hair
It's not that big of a problem, but it was weird for me to see more hair on my body parts where I never had it before
8 HEADACHE
This one is the worst, no matter how many vitamins I took and how well I slept, my head would HURT as hell
9 Your skin becomes yellowish
Oh my god, I hated it, I don't why exactly that happens, but I felt like a minion
10 You only think of food
I would watch mukbangs, look for recipes, cook for my family, walk in the supermarket for hours just because I only thought about food, nothing else interests you when you are hungry
11 Bruises
Also pretty annoying, they appear out of nowhere and all your legs are covered in them
12 Hair loss
It's also quite obvious, but not everyone knows that it doesn't begin immediately, it typically begins much later after you begin losing weight AND it might continue for some time after you start eating well, I'd never experienced hair loss in my life before this diet and it sucks
13 You still hate yourself
If you have an ed or you are just insecure about your body, losing weight will not help, you will either find new insecurities such as saggy skin or you still won't feel satisfied
13 You gain it all back (maybe even more)
Yes, I gained everything back in literally 2,5 months with binge eating, I just COULD NOT stop myself from eating, even though I was super strict with myself before, I basically wasted my time and got a lot of stress

Well, I think this is enough, most of these side effects do go away after you stop cutting calories, but some are irreversible, so be aware, I hope that someone will read this and won't repeat my mistakes.

edit: forgot to add i'm 6'1 or 187cm

Started the deficit beginning of the year on Jan 1, and will take a break from it today as of August 31st. Went through a breakup this year and listened to everyone's classic of advice of "see you in the gym."

It was tough but I knew I had to do it for myself because of injuries and just not feeling adequate physically for the things I wanted to do. Felt ready to put myself back out there in late May and I have to say, I had really rough luck on dating apps years ago before I met my ex, but this year was revelation in terms of how people perceived me.

It's tough mentally, but doing this has transformed how I approach my lifestyle in terms of eating and daily movement. WEIGH YOUR FOOD!

Macros to begin my deficit: 2700 calories, 220g protein, 300g carbs, the rest on fat

Macros to end the deficit: 2200 calories, 200g protein, 250g carbs, the rest on fat

Google Gemini vs Apple Health inconsistency

Hello, I fed some basic figures into Google Gemini.

-150 lbs
-31 years old
-male
-23,000 average daily steps this week
-3 ~30 minute strength workouts per week

And received a seemingly huge estimate for my daily calorie expenditure. Apple Health gives me an estimate of ~1650 basal metabolic rate and 613 average daily calories. I am far more inclined to believe Apple Health. Any guidance?

First milestone

In June, I weighed 318 lbs and was tempted to try a GLP-1. Instead, I started a calorie deficit meal plan and I finally hit my first mini-goal of a 10% weight loss. I weighed in yesterday at 285.

I know it's not much for some people, but I'm thrilled to see a change considering I haven't altered anything else about my daily routine.

Sorry, I just needed to let someone know how excited I am about doing this through a sustainable lifestyle change.

Advice on deficit

Hello! I am a women, 5’11, 160lb and work out 3-4 times a week. Usually a mix of Pilates, weight lifting, hot yoga, and the odd run. I also do not have a desk job and I’m on my feet/walking a decent amount of the day.

I have been struggling to lose 10ish pounds that I seemed to have gained due to birth control (which I have since stopped taking). Now that I am off of it, is 1870 calories a day with 100+ grams of protein a good starting place for me? I previous tried 1700 but found that I was insanely hungry and not feeling very well.
