Looking for advice HELP :(

Hey everyone I hope this is the right place for this but I’m desperate and frustrated. I’m trying to get into cassettes so forgive me if I’m being stupid, this box is brand new, so are the cassettes. It all acts the same with the cover closed so for the purpose of being able to see it I have it open but it changes nothing, it all seems to work fine without a cassette but when I go to record it does nothing, the spools simply don’t turn. And I was told the tape should be in the left when recording but it only spools when it’s over to the right. HOWEVER, if it IS on the right it just starts to straight up pull the tape out. I ruined a cassette already earlier with this because I didn’t realize it was doing it until I opened it and it was so mangled I ended up tossing it. I am just so confused as to if I’m doing something wrong. Pls help any and all feedback is appreciated

Tape find First rare cassette find…but is it?

Spanish Johnny’s Opera: The Decision / Step-Sister. Snapshot1998 Only listing I find is for a 7” Vinyl release.

The internet says: Spanish Johnny's Opera was a San Francisco-area indie pop/folk-pop band active in the late 1990s. The specific physical release you are referencing is their 7" vinyl single (often misremembered as a cassette tape), titled The Decision / Step-Sister.

If the AI says a cassette is mandala object what is this tape? A fake? A gag?

Looking for advice New Fiio CP13

I got a brand new Fiio CP13 and I played a few tapes on it It plays great but I bought a few used tapes and after playing them when I played a brand new tape I noticed I started hearing crackling and a lil bit of wow when playing the tape. It's charged and the wire to the headphones is new.

What can it be? Just needs a cleaning or something else? The pitch roller does look a lil dusty

These are fully original cassettes and CDs from the 80s and 90s. asking $300 because most go for over $10 at auction so I’m doing $5 a piece. Run DMC “Raising Hell” is worth $35 by itself.

Looking for advice Any websites to buy Cassettes?

I wanted to ask if anyone knows any websites to buy Blank Cassettes/C0 cassettes from, especially in different colours. I really want to give my cassettes my own flair but I haven't found any good ones yet. Should be one that delivers to Europe/Austria. I found like two websites that have a bunch of different ones but Delivery itself is like 40 bucks. Does anyone know a cheaper one or is that already cheap..? I'm new to cassettes so I don't know most of the stuff so any help would be very appreciated

Recently getting really into 70s disco and Disco Inferno has been on repeat for a bit. Finally found a reissue of this soundtrack and JUST realised it's over 10 minutes long 😅 I've been listening to the single version all this time.

Looking for advice My cassettes are squeaking.

Post image

So I've bought two new cassettes and wanted to try them out. When I came to side 2 on either one of them, they started making squeaking noises. Does anyone know why they do that? My guess would be those little rollers for the tape, but I don't know. The tapes themselves sound amazing.

Please dont blame me for not knowing much about cassettes. I have Lots of other physical media!

Was very excited to get this, seller listed it on vinted as brand new and never used. And it doesnt work 🥲

The batt light lights up and i can hear sound of it running only for a couple seconds before it stops but it doesnt turn the cassette at all

Now im wondering if I should try refunding it, on one hand i really love how this look (though silver color would have been even better) and i kinda wanna keep it, on the other hand, not much I can do i think, im not an expert cassette player restorer

Thoughts?

Update: Came to an agreement with the seller and we agreed to give me a partial refund while keeping the item

Now listening to Licensed To Ill - Beastie Boys

I’ve been collecting since 2019ish. I still remember buying my first tape at a bookstore, Primus - Frizzle Fry and Frank Zappa - Apostrophe (‘) in a mixtape. Man was my mind blown to say the least haha.

Been collecting local tapes from the local scene and my favs, although increasing my hip-hop collection is on the list! I can’t live without my radio.

Got my Denon DN-T620 which is a cassette/CD combo deck hooked up to a Creative sub and speakers which I bought at the thrift store.

Got two more briefcases with my Led Zeppelin collection and some other mixtapes but I wanted to share the collection with the community!

Score! Dug these out of the Goodwill Bins today for under $20.00. 😃

The employees pushed out 6 bins of stuff and the bin I was in front of had two small bins within the bin full of cassettes tapes that appeared to be taped together in bundles. Two younger guys moved in quickly and kind of shut me out. T-shirt bros. The stay at the bins all day looking for treasures and vintage shirts. The took a whole bin and ravaged through the 2nd and left the scraps for me. They later came back and dumped "what they didn't want" from the one whole bin they took away, which was all stuff they just didn't know was rad stuff. They made off with a Metallica Kill em all tape and a few other black sabbath tapes. But I was able to rummage through the wreckage and I got all these. The tape cases had packing Tape on them. I know, the irony right? So I will clean these cases and maybe get some empty cases that are clean on my next visits to the bins. Not bad for just under $20.00. I inspected every tape, to make sure the pressure pads were present. The bins charge $1.29 per pound of goods. So, it was fun.

Gear Thrifted a tape splicer and if it works as it should it will be a game changer.

I'm at work and I don't have any tapes with me that I want to cut so I can't test it now. Made by Akai so I am confident it will work well.

I have always found splicing tapes very tedious and almost never did it unless the tape was something special and difficult or impossible to replace.

This thing, which I bought for $2 looks like it will make splicing relatively easy.

You lift the cutter assembly and the hold down arms up. Place one end of the tape to be spliced down on the cutting surface and lower that arm to hold it in place then the other end of the tape overlapping the first.

Slide the selector to the cut position and press down cutting both ends at an angle.

Raise the cutters up but not the hold down arms and apply the splicing tape across the cut.

Lower the cutters, slide the selector to trim and press down, cutting both edges of the splicing tape at the same time.

Raise the hold down arms and you are done.

I was sure these were comics. Then it clicked. In Japanese Jan Ken Pon is not a name. It is the game itself, and the beat when everyone shows the hand!

The Japanese do not say rock, paper, scissors as the count. They say jan, ken, pon!

Jan is the start of the count. Ken is fist, the old name of the game. Pon is the throw sound: same job as shoot.

And once you know, yeah. All three gestures are right there in the drawing.

GODSPEED 音 - "未知の襲撃者" c48

https://arcticcontact.bandcamp.com/album/--11

Barber beats for future worlds not all that different from ours. Future worlds that still has rained out alleyways and shady characters. This is the downtempo electronic you listen to when you walk through those worlds, with the brim of your hat lowered to cover your face.

Scored these beauties at the thrift for ridiculously cheap. The GoldStar works beautifully all around, but the Sharp is in need of a new belt, a lil clean up and I hope that'll fix it!

Looking for advice How to adjust azimuth on the Sony TCM-450

*tape speed, not azimuth

Does anyone know how to adjust the tape speed on this model? I can't seem to find any info online. The device plays way too fast. As you can see on the back of the device, I have to have the speed set quite low for it to sound correct. This model is a cassette corder, so it has the switch for the two different recording speeds. This is currently set on the normal speed, but both speeds are too fast. Thanks in advance!

Announcement Looking for a 4 track cassette player like my old Fostex X-15.

Hey guys.

First-time poster.

Thank you for letting me join the group.

Stupid question. I have been writing music since the early 80s, and I recently found about 2 dozen cassettes; most are 4-track tapes I made on my Foxtes X-15. I know that there are some tracks on the tapes that I would like to redo, but right now all I can do is connect my Walkman to my computer and record a single pass in my DAW (Reaper), and then turn the tape over and record the other 2 tracks, and then reverse them and try to line them up in the DAW. I currently have almost 70 tracks on YT, and I would like to add to it. I looked online and tried to find a similar recorder on eBay, and they are asking $200 for one that is for parts and not working! I also looked for a service, and they want $30 per tape to convert to a CD. I have about 24 tapes, and they want $720, even though some of the tapes only have 1-2 songs on them! Any ideas? Thanx in advance.

Portable cassette player Walkman not playing, help needed

I have a walkman WM-FX193. It was playing fine and had some issues with the playing speed. I thought of adjusting the potentiometer in order to play at correct pitch. As I opened and adjusted the potentiometer I put it back together. Now when I try to play any cassette, it spins just fine but there is no sound playing. I also tried by resetting the position of the potentiometer but it was not helpful either. Please help!!!

Just got a Sanyo RD S30. Found it at value village while on vacation rn. I tested it with a Celine Dion tape I found, and while idk if it’s to fast or slow (I don’t listen to Celine Dion), ik it does work. If it’s at the right speed, I’m gonna rip my cassette for Ghettosburg Address by Shazzy (unreleased Elektra rap album from 94 with only promos before jt got shelved) i previously ripped it with my walkman, but if this sanyo works perfect, it will sound miles better. Can’t rip until I get back in 4(?) days. If i do rip it perfectly, i will update my internet archive page with the new rip. Also I can make my OWN custom tapes with the line in on the back (already planning a custom KMD Black bastards and Otropic three for me, might even make my lil brother his own ghettosburg)

Looking for advice Soldering advice

I’ve been doing basic cleaning and belt replacements and whatnot for a bit and figure it’s time to add soldering to the toolkit. I plan to get a basic practice kit before leveling up to trash picked practice. Then I have a portable I need to break a solder on to get to the belt.

What tips do you veterans have for me? What sort of traps should I avoid that Google won’t tell me about? What gear might I need and not be thinking about?
