Question CMX760 Help

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

New to the CB world, needing some help getting this functional. Uniden CMX760 with Cobra HGA1500 antenna mounted to a steel plate overhanging the bed. When pressing PTT, the radio just makes this horrible screeching sound, and repeatedly plays the roger beep if I have it turned on. Any guidance is appreciated.

Scrap box find

I know squat about CBs. Picked this out of a box full of radios, transmitters and cords. (Road construction company upgraded all the radios in their vehicles)I ended up with a handful of these. The microphones are present as well just not in the picture. Is there any value to this? There's about 2 inches of wires on the back connector.

I lost my antenna sometime ago and would like to replace it. Is there something on the market that I could use either straight to this mount or through an adaptor? Thanks in advance.

Hi all, I’ve noticed the lack of a subreddit for UK based CB radio so I created a new one: r/cbradiouk

It powers on via car outlet, not sure what ANL/AGC/Delta Tune stand for, my current gateway into the hobby, couldn’t find little to no online info on it, thanks

Cb radio shop?

I’m frequently running routes through Michigan and Ohio. I do the other surrounding states (PA, NY, WV, IN) but those first two are my most frequent routes.
I’m in a semi truck with a full 53 foot trailer. Looking for a CB shop to peak and tune my Cobra 29 LTD. Want it to remain in the truck. I can bring the bobtail to them IF it is close to Cleveland OH, otherwise I will have a trailer with me.
Anyone have any suggestions? Could be someone who comes to me, could be a shop that I go to. I’m struggling to find a shop. Please help !

Extra info - I am brand new to CB radios and I am essentially clueless on what I’m doing. Would like someone that can show me the ropes if possible.

Is CB dead on long island?

I'm newer to CB and I'm in the Suffolk county area of Long Island. I've done everything in the book to get set up. I'm not able to get any contacts I think I've gotten only one radio check. Before I invest more money to talk into Dead space is there anybody on CB on Long Island? Is everyone just on private repeaters on gmrs or ham instead of CB?

Any Tacoma or 4Runner folks with the hybrid motors out there?

Curious if the hybrid battery causes extra noise? I'm looking at both and the normal battery is mounted in the rear. They have a setup of accessory "tails" that run up to the dashboard for connecting accessories etc. In my current 4Runner, I'm running power direct to the battery where it should be....under the hood lol.

Found 2 of these brand new at a yard sale, $10 for both. How’d I do? For these, I’ve read mixed reviews about them. Mainly wanted Cb so I can communicate with the wife while driving. Any suggestions or recommendations on set up would be appreciated as this is my first Cb radio. Thanks fellas

News Found actual CB use in the wild

My travels yesterday brought me to an ethanol refining plant here in the rural town where I live. When I walked in and talked to the guy at the desk, I noticed he was talking on an actual CB. A nice President George if I saw it correctly.

He was taking corn dumps from semi and tractor drivers who were coordinating their deliveries with him via Channel 12. Clear as day local CB use with an actual use case.

I know this may not be news for you all, but I've never come across it in the wild. Apparently, CB is alive and well in agricultural Wisconsin.

Question Mag mount antenna length and higher than wanted SWR question

I have a small car. I have a short antenna and a longer whip style antenna. Both mag mounts. The SWR for both is less than 3 but above 2. I watch on YouTube that with some others you can actually reach close to 1:1 or at least less than 1:5. The examples on YouTube tend to be the sirio performer size and their ilk rather than the k30 and smaller that I have.

Will buying a longer antenna allow me to get lower SWR? Or is my small car and small roof playing a significant part?

Appreciate you all for sharing your knowledge and helping people like me understand what we are doing. Thanks.

Question Legallity of not grounding and bonding an a99 at the end of my yard?

Ok, I had an a99 for about 7 years and the Ohio seasons destroyed it. I didn't ground it or bond it to my house ground which I now know was foolish and if my house was struck by lightning my insurance claim would have been denied etc.

I don't want to ground or bond an a99 in the future either BUT, if I stick a big ass length of wood into the ground at the back of my yard away from any neighbors or buildings and mount the a99 to that, leaving the end of the coax unhooked at human height when not using it. Does this STILL need to be grounded and bonded?

Thanks.

Discussion Vintage general electric cord

I bought this radio for $20 with a roof mounted antenna, unfortunately there's something very weird

The 3 pin connector on the back is reverse polarity. Two positive pins and one negative pin.

Now to say "that's wrong" in itself is wrong as the manual for the unit itself says:

"yes this is BASS backwards "

Secret CB volume 18 page 42

So the question is, what if I just took a standard car cable, cut it , and swapped the polarity......

Update Yes.... Yes you can..... As to how long it'll last and how well the actual antenna works, that is to be determined.

Question Anyone live near a Web SDR?

If you do, you can transmit on 11 meters and the Web SDR will hear you! Then someone anywhere in the country can pick up your signal online. If they are also near a Web SDR, you can hear them as well and actually have a 2 way conversation! www.WebSDR.org

Experiment: Metal roof with mag mount antenna??

Inspired by this guy putting a mag mount on a pizza tray on his roof https://youtube.com/shorts/p0GXLUJgitg?is=KrtWyzeeOvZz9_-T

I put my mag mount on the edge of my metal roof on my garage. The SWR was 1.75:1 on channels 38 to 40 which was surprisingly low for such a silly idea. Any idea how I can make this actually work?

My metal roof is this style https://i5.walmartimages.com/seo/10FT-Galvalume-Corrugated-Steel-Roofing-Panels-50PCS-Heavy-Duty-25GA-Metal-Roof-Wall-Sheets-Cream-Silver-Weather-Resistant-Panels-Barn-Garage-Shed-Wo_4ad1b377-9e4d-48bb-9e9d-6298f1849b80.3198b24939bc64610e6831b25fde501a.jpeg?odnHeight=768&odnWidth=768&odnBg=FFFFFF

The SWR line on my nanoVNA was a 45 degree line high going down as the channels go up.

Thanks.

Question CB only receives with SWR meter plugged in

I have a cb27 pro that quit receiving recently and while testing the SWR noticed that I was now able to hear other people. I've tested it several times now and the only way I get anything on the radio is with the SWR meter connected. Does anyone have any idea as to what could be causing this? I haven't seen anyone else have this issue before.

What CB and Antenna combo for Gladiator use and off road

Very new here. Any advice is appreciated. Im looking to buy a cb radio and antenna to fit on a Gladiator for road and off road use. In the past, I have had a LTD 29. I believe thats correct. I was a bit large. I am looking for as much range and power as possible. The LTD 29 seemed like it would not reach very far but, the antenna was not a great one either. Any advice or suggestions? Thanks.
