I don't understand all this talk saying JDS isn't good enough for the PL.

So far he's looked more comfortable than half the squad which people say are "PL ready".

We've all seen him get dominated by any and every physical winger in the Championship for the past three seasons. I like the guy and I'd be very glad to submit that apology via postcard, but I can't see it happening.

I'm not sure I agree with that.

JDS became good when he stopped playing passbacks and started going for crosses when he'd go forward.

JDS has shown a desire to get better, and he's acted on it time and time again. I think it's an unfair comparison to look at him three years ago, when (at least to me) he's clearly been our most improved player over that same timespan.

3 years ago it was a toss-up between him starting or Bidwell -- I don't think anybody is trying to question now who is better in that role.

(No hate on Bidwell, I think he's a lovely lad)

I don't think it's a coincidence that JDS has performed a lot better when we have more of the ball: he's tidy in possession, but I think he always has been; it's just that last year we were on the front foot more often. His biggest weakness is when he's exposed and trying to defend a counterattack because he gets outmuscled and outpaced by any moderately athletic winger. The problem is in the Premier League that's basically every winger.

Not too worried if nobody comes in personally, if Cherif turns out to be decent I think we have the personnel to make a good fist of this season. But I would genuinely like to see us try out a back 5 v City. My main concern from the first two games (well the Arsenal game, it was expected v Hull) was that we seem to be trying the same stuff as we did last season. That just ain’t gonna cut it, we will need a different tactical approach in a lot of games and a game where we’re almost guaranteed to lose seems a decent place to start experimenting

I’m really not annoyed by this. Solid on his day and very committed. But he lacks pace and is prone to mistakes that we’re already finding out get punished in the prem. good luck to him though

Confirmation that we’re on a two promotion strategy. We’ve signed a couple to cash in on next summer (Amenda, Yirenkyi), signed the attacking core of a side to win promotion next season (Awomiyi, Hamer, Cherif, Tchaouna), and most tellingly kept a bunch of players we’ll need back in Championship (the fact Kitching has gone on loan not perm for example).

Doug's a smart guy. He knows the odds are stacked against us this season. I'm sure the central planning assumption is relegation followed by another promotion. We'll be stronger in 2 years time and can have a proper run at staying up.

They have what 35 players ? Lets see how the 18 (!) new guys settle in. I think Ipswich have done by far the most astute business - they have rich owners and its second time around. They made their mistakes last time.

I suspect there will be more going out than coming in today. But I'd still love a starting left-back. Not sure that young lad is the guy and, as much as JDS has had a decent start and was really good on Saturday, I don't think he should be our main LB in the Premier League.

I'm more worried about RB. I think there's a real danger that MVE's poor positional awareness has been found out. And we're one niggly injury from Lati playing at RB.

I'm really buying into the idea that we need a complete tactical shake up, Grimes, as much as I love him doesn't seem to work in the role he's currently in. New formation is needed and I think it might be best to drop him from the starting line up.

It’s not about the role it’s about the opposition we’re up against. We’re going to have less possession so there’s less need for a player whose strength is to keep possession.
