After many years I am still searching for a nylon classical or flamenco guitar that I cant put down. In october I am driving to Morocco and therefore heading through all of Spain.

Looking for recommendations for some used guitar shops along the way. I am not bothered about a prestine instrument - actually I would rather a well used or vintage guitar that has character. So finding a shop with lots of used guitars is a must.

Experienced player - looking for something all solid wood.

Current routes could go through Salamanca · Cáceres · Mérida · Seville · Jerez on the way down and Algeciras/Tarifa → Málaga → Antequera → Córdoba → Madrid → Burgos → Bilbao on the way back.

Having played regular acoustic, electric, and bass guitar for almost 30 years, I'm no beginner. But I might be a relative newbie to classical with nylon strings, although I've played plenty over the years, I've never owned one.

So I happen to be in Spain. Curious to know if it's worth the risk to buy a nicer entry-level / mid grade guitar here and attempt to take it on board (or, worst case, gate-check). Thinking Alhambra 4P, Cordoba C5 or equivalent.

Or does it make more sense to play around the local guitar shops, visit a luthier (or three) for strictly educational purposes, and then scour the used marketplace in my area (east coast metro) to see what pops up?

My budget is around $1k including hard case / flight case. Just curious if the deals are much better in Spain. (Valencia to be precise)

Ok so I just got this 12 holes bridge guitar and it’s time to restring. I wonder if I am allowed to just string them in classical 6 holes method?

Hello, I've been learning guitar for a few months now (I have prior experience with piano so I'm improving at a good pace).

I was wondering if there are any good recomendations, preferably compilations of works for beginners. I'm looking for works that are written for the guitar specifically, instead of simply arrangements for it. For the style I'm intrested in anything baroque and onwards.

I also have a big gap of knowledge in Spanish music, so if anyone have recomendations for Spanish classical or traditional Spanish music I would appriciate it!

Hi everyone! I recently purchased a beautiful 1989 Ramirez 3E. It is in excellent condition, stunning in appearance, and produces an incredible sound! This is a significant upgrade from my student MR guitar.

Here I am playing an excerpt from a fantastic Mertz Nocturne.

I’m curious about the overall utility of learning classical guitar repertoire on an electric guitar, particularly in the strangely common situation of having no access to a teacher (not an option purely by virtue of being a dead-broke highschooler) and only owning an electric.

I’m coming at this from a jazz piano background, where I’ve found that working through classical repertoire can have a very direct training value even when it isn’t the ultimate goal. I’m wondering how much of that transfers to guitar.

Specifically, I’m interested in using classical repertoire to develop:

1. The ability to audiate and sight-read treble clef more fluently on the guitar (not necessarily fully useful for me, but my goal is to be able to produce scores and such for my own music that are accurate, and which I can forget about and then play).
2. Greater exposure to the physical techniques and sensations involved in producing or approximating a wider range of sounds.
3. More training in right hand playing techniques, with things like tremolo that, in my experience, are either not used or underutilised in modern electric playing.
4. More experience reading and coordinating genuinely polyphonic writing, with multiple independent voices overlapping.

I understand that classical guitar technique isn’t necessarily interchangeable with electric guitar technique. I’m less interested in reproducing the classical sound perfectly and more interested in whether the repertoire itself is useful as a technical and musical training ground. My end goal is more or less to expand my abilities to play and write my own music with greater degrees of technical fluency and more interesting and developed composition.

I’m also curious about how much the differences between the instruments—size, weight, body shape, neck, strings, and general response—actually change the applicability (maybe not validity in the standard sense of such a word; I am, again, not trying to sound like Sor, just steal from him) of classical-guitar techniques when transferring them to electric.

I’m especially interested in hearing from people who have played both instruments.

E visto que las Ramirez o las Manuel Rodríguez son bastantes recomendadas, pero no sé si son marcas muy comerciales, me gustan las cosas hechas a mano!

I'm having problem with chords being muted/buzzing etc. from measure 5 to 8. No matter how hard i press it sounds bad. Any advice for fingering and technique would be helpful. Thank you in advance!
