So he insulted most of his base. Those data centers are mostly in poor and rural areas, which makes up the bulk of his supporters.
21
u/Jonnny 5h ago
I hate to say this, but does his "base" even matter anymore? He was voted in, the bad guys won, and project 2025 is destroying the US as we speak. I know history is full of ups and downs but... this is a really hard time to accept is happening. I'm sorry, but I can't begin to give two fucks about all the mouth breathers feeling slightly less enthusiastic about giving their mind and souls to Maga.

I can't begin to give two fucks about all the mouth breathers feeling slightly less enthusiastic about giving their mind and souls to Maga.
I mean, leopards eating people's faces, and all that, but you should care about Trump's base losing faith in him. They're excitable weirdos who think violence is a valid solution to their problems. Telling them to stew in the juices of their own bad decisions isn't going to go well for anyone.
Mind, I'm not saying you should coddle them, but the social conditions which are most closely correlated to violent crime* will only get worse if people aren't putting in the effort to address them. We'll have to drag conservatives kicking and screaming into the future (like we always do), but if we don't we might as well be cooking the recipe for violence ourselves.
* The social conditions correlated to violent crime are:
Poverty
High economic disparity (the financial "distance" between the rich and the poor)
Job insecurity
Food insecurity
Lack of access to quality healthcare
Lack of access to quality education
Lack of enforcement on crimes known to be part of a pattern of escalating violence (like stalking, assault, and domestic abuse)
I know the list reads like a MAGA wet dream, but that's the point (and the problem)

He probably would since he doesn't live there- and thinks he's going to have the next term handed to him hence his bunker under the ballroom.

He absolutely loathes the windmills off the coast of his Scottish resort, and he's there even less.

I thought that was just bullshit so he can cater to his rich oil buddies

Impossible to say with him.

It was probably the excuse to cut funding for windmills and other sustainable electricity projects and keep the oil barrons happy

Threatening him with a data center won't work, but threatening him with the wind turbines to power it just might. /s

“The only reason that communities throughout the U.S.A. should not want Data Centers is if they want to end up being backwards and poor. If they want to be successful and rich, with far lower taxes and jobs all over the place, let Data Reign.”
14
u/RoguePlanet2 5h ago
Soooo gross. Tapping into the cult's inherent racism and superior attitudes, but insinuating poorer people are that way by choice. If they refuse data centers it's because they're "stupid" and "don't want to be wealthy." The propaganda machine is working overtime with this tool.
-7
u/shawn_the_medic 4h ago
If a town or county says no, the project goes somewhere else. Those places get the money and the jobs; the ones that refuse fall behind.
He called data centers the “Golden Goose.” Killing the goose would be self inflicted. He also framed local opposition as a gift to China in the AI race.
He was not claiming that every person who dislikes a data center next to their house is currently poor or uneducated.
The grammar is “if they want to end up being…” a warning about what happens if they opt out.
8
u/EtchAGetch 4h ago
Except there is no money or jobs in data centers. They barely employ anyone, and they suck up local resources driving prices higher, if not outright corrupting them.
Data Centers arent like factories with manual labor and jobs. And they dont produce anything that brings in people or goods. Hell, if they are talking about putting them in outer space, thats all you need to know about what benefit they have to local economy.
6
4
6
u/Par_Lapides 4h ago
Which is nonsense. The data centers rob the locals of land and ecology and export all their money outside the local economy.

I mean I am the most poor I've ever been in my life under him. Cost of living is exponentially more than it was growing up for me and now I have a family to support in an area that is getting hit by climate disasters and crazy food recalls that never used to happen in this volume or mass.
I have to worry about pandemics, my kid getting shot at school. It just never ends
It's getting harder to live everyday for the working class while him and his billionaire parasite friends pillage the Earth of its resources, both natural and financial and cast us away like garbage
So yes I am both backwards and poor if he is setting the standards

You need to sell him in a language he understands.
Mr. President, if we put a data center in Mar-a-lago you can store unlimited child pictures and videos. We can also put a few flock cameras too, so you can receive 24 hour live stream from Kai and Ivanka.

Trump Never Pays for Anything
Not for work even with contracts. Not legal defense. Not for slander, open threats or cringe sexual offers. Heck, not sure he pays for paid sex.

Nobody is going to complain about a data center using solar power in the middle of a desert. But it's too expensive to build there and too expensive to incentivise workers to go there for maintenance and installation. It seems to me that the cheap and poor here are the ones who try to build a loud, power hungry, behemoth of a structure at places where it would be cheaper, regardless of how it affects people.
1
u/22firefly 5h ago
the desire to blackmail, bribe, coerce, segregate, apprehend, punish, enslave, oppress runs deep and data centers are great for gathering all information in order to do so.
1
u/Salty_Feed9404 4h ago
Isn't Mar-A-Lago where DOGE/Cronies house all the data they stole in 2025? Trump already had a head start on his data center

u/Punch_A_Police_Horse 4h ago
I wish I could remember the name of it, but AOC was part of something where the idea was to win over Trump supporters. It involved going to areas molested by AI data centers and talking to the people there. The footage shows the people being quite upset about them, but then it's like, would you vote for AOC over a republican if it meant getting rid of these data centers?
...
Okay, well, enjoy living in a wind turbine and drinking swill water you backward poors.

u/dusty-cat-albany 4h ago
So why we do cost /benefit analysis they are getting built to support AI, AI agents are responsible for 90% of spam, for phishing, searching out and harvesting personal data, hacking corporate web sites, ransomware, identity theft. How about before we build more data centers why don't we hold the companies responsible for creating these fraud monsters responsible for their crimes.

u/Prolapse94 3h ago
Ofcourse he'd say that. Because that's where they'll go; in poor areas because no one will genuinely stand up for poor because, where's the money in that?

It's just like when texas bussed a bunch of migrants to the sanctuary cities. They like it, just not in their backyard, right?

u/grendus 1h ago
I'm perfectly fine with AI data centers on the following conditions:
They add enough green energy to the grid to offset their power consumption.
They are rigged in such a way that they can be shut down during power crunches. We can pay them for the power they contribute to the grid during said times.
They use closed loop cooling.
They use sound insulation so they cannot be heard from outside.
Shockingly, none of them actually want to do that as it's more expensive. Which is why the government should be stepping in to tell them to suck it up and pay for the privilege of having their stupid-add warehouses in the city.
1
u/Glittering_Pain_6150 1h ago
honestly the noise from those massive cooling fans would ruin his golf game in a week lol

I think we should knock down 1/3 of Mara Lago and build a data center. We should also change the name to Canada Lago. 😂 (I know it's not PC but I have informally named it Moron Lago, for now.)
•
u/E-2theRescue 47m ago
I mean, he mostly ain't wrong. They are poor.
But that's why they choose the spots for the data centers. They pick poor towns and neighborhoods to fuck poor people even more. Just like how they built interstates through black neighborhoods to create physical red-lined districts after the bans.

AOC is a huge grifter, BTW. It's why you can't find clips of her speaking for more than 2 min. She doesn't know how to do anything.

u/IW-X6 4h ago
How is this clever? Like really, how is this clever? There are many things we wouldn't want to have in our backyard. Garbage fields, chemical plants, cow farm, etc..
-4
u/CuntWeasel 3h ago
This sub is now just political. Once in a blue moon you get an actual clever comeback, otherwise you just get stuff that would've been removed right after posting back when this sub was originally created.
They even changed the #1 rule:
It has to be a great response (preferably clever) to someone.
Preferably clever, that's how low the bar is these days.

u/Telemere125 5h ago
I mean, I get what she’s trying to say, but I also wouldn’t want a sewage treatment plant right in my backyard and those are definitely good and necessary for the healthy and safety of everyone and living near one doesn’t automatically make you “backwards and poor”. In fact, I’d say at least with a minimal amount of distance, the further you live from a sewage treatment facility, the more backwards and poor you and at some point you’re literally in a 3rd world country.
10
u/floodcontrol 5h ago
What??
Your comparison is nonsense. Sewage treatment is a necessary thing and unfortunately, it doesn't smell great.
Data centers are not a necessary thing. They benefit very few people and the purpose of AI is to take everyone's knowledge-based jobs and give all the money people would have earned doing those jobs to already obscenely rich people.
With few exceptions the further you live from a data center, the less backwards and poor you are, so really, you have picked the exact opposite thing from a data center in order to try and weaken AOC's point. It's really astounding.
6
u/NuggetHighwind 5h ago
I've been on this website for like 12 years, and I don't think I've ever seen someone miss the point as hard as you just did.
-8
u/Telemere125 4h ago
Replace “data center” with “sewage treatment facility” in the argument
Trump: you are backwards and poor if you don’t want a sewage treatment facility in your neighborhood
AOC: let’s put one in Mar-a-Lago and see how “backward and poor” that is.
Yes, it’s backwards and poor to have one in your actual backyard. But it’s also backwards and poor to refuse to live anywhere near one.
See how that works?
Yall keep equating these to just big buildings that only run LLMs and image generators for gifs. You do realize that the cloud service that’s running Reddit is dependent on a data center, right?

u/SenorPancake 5h ago
You don't seem to get what she's trying to say as what you are saying here aligns entirely with her point.
She isn't calling anybody backwards and poor. She's calling out Trump for referring to people opposed to data centers as backwards and poor.
-7
u/Cindylou735 4h ago
No one wants a data center in their back yard? Than don't scream when you lose service! Also, if China gets ahead of us, life as we know it, will be very (negatively) different. Think about that.

u/GildedGalia 6h ago
Nobody wants a massive server farm blowing out their local power grid and water supply right next door, regardless of where they live.
