Nobody wants a massive server farm blowing out their local power grid and water supply right next door, regardless of where they live.

372

u/Madaghmire 6h ago

Which is of course her point, in case anyone didn’t catch it

43

u/LemonIcy2 4h ago

The backyard proposal really drives the point home.

28

u/jonydevidson 4h ago

Around 80 million people didn't catch it, and around 80 million more don't give a fuck.

5

u/aerdvarkk 1h ago

I mean Mar a Lago is on the coast, so any waste can easily just be pumped directly into the Atlantic and not disturb crops. /s

exactly, it’s so hypocritical. my neighbor complains about the noise from my kids but he blasts music all night

26

u/Death_Tooth 5h ago

Golf courses already destroy local water with all the pesticide runoff!

25

u/SmallAngry0wl 5h ago

And massive water usage as well. Golf is like the data center of sports.

3

u/SuspiciousBuilder379 4h ago

They aren’t destroying it, they are taking it all and drying up people’s wells.

Direct and indirect usage, you need to look at both.

17

u/CesareBach 5h ago

The center is also humming. It is so disorienting.

3

u/DensePoser 4h ago

He's building a data center under the White House...

7

u/ElectricSliderz 4h ago

If so it wouldn’t be a processor but a repository for all the blackmail material they can get from the process centers that steal everyone’s info that churns through them.

2

u/jason_sos 2h ago

Gotta store the Epstein Files somewhere.

3

u/ReasonElla 3h ago

The art of the comeback. She literally used his own NIMBY logic against him.

2

u/Hairy_is_the_Hirsute 2h ago

NIMBY is interesting, because it's usually brought up for "required" infrastructure or utility... Like, "hey, we need a power plant somewhere" or "wastewater treatment" or something.... But private data centers? That the avg American doesn't want AT ALL? fuck all the way off

2

u/pharna1 5h ago

wait so they actually wanna put it there

1

u/NaturalNella 3h ago

The fastest way to find out if someone’s serious: put it in their backyard.

1

u/BusinessNella 3h ago

Put one in his backyard is the political equivalent of no u but it actually works here

u/Ill_Stop_ 27m ago

And the noise

u/Lashay_Sombra 17m ago

Especially funny coming from a guy on a decade plus vendetta against windmills because someone once put some near one of his golf courses...last time i checked he has paid about $4 billion of tax payers money so companys did not build multiple wind farm projects around the country

49

u/Useful-Soup8161 5h ago

So he insulted most of his base. Those data centers are mostly in poor and rural areas, which makes up the bulk of his supporters.

21

u/Jonnny 5h ago

I hate to say this, but does his "base" even matter anymore? He was voted in, the bad guys won, and project 2025 is destroying the US as we speak. I know history is full of ups and downs but... this is a really hard time to accept is happening. I'm sorry, but I can't begin to give two fucks about all the mouth breathers feeling slightly less enthusiastic about giving their mind and souls to Maga.

3

u/subnautus 3h ago

I can't begin to give two fucks about all the mouth breathers feeling slightly less enthusiastic about giving their mind and souls to Maga.

I mean, leopards eating people's faces, and all that, but you should care about Trump's base losing faith in him. They're excitable weirdos who think violence is a valid solution to their problems. Telling them to stew in the juices of their own bad decisions isn't going to go well for anyone.

Mind, I'm not saying you should coddle them, but the social conditions which are most closely correlated to violent crime* will only get worse if people aren't putting in the effort to address them. We'll have to drag conservatives kicking and screaming into the future (like we always do), but if we don't we might as well be cooking the recipe for violence ourselves.

* The social conditions correlated to violent crime are:

  • Poverty

  • High economic disparity (the financial "distance" between the rich and the poor)

  • Job insecurity

  • Food insecurity

  • Lack of access to quality healthcare

  • Lack of access to quality education

  • Lack of enforcement on crimes known to be part of a pattern of escalating violence (like stalking, assault, and domestic abuse)

I know the list reads like a MAGA wet dream, but that's the point (and the problem)

2

u/Jonnny 2h ago

Ugh. My head tells me you're right, but the inner spirit groans and collapses at the thought of trying to deprogram an entire nation permanently spun up and angry at "DEM GITDURN LIBZ DESTROYING MURICA WID DA TRANZZZ GROOOOMERZ!!!"

Seriously: how does one compete with a Fox News?

131

u/RockstarAgent 6h ago

He probably would since he doesn't live there- and thinks he's going to have the next term handed to him hence his bunker under the ballroom.

84

u/Ol_JanxSpirit 6h ago

He absolutely loathes the windmills off the coast of his Scottish resort, and he's there even less.

15

u/RockstarAgent 5h ago

I thought that was just bullshit so he can cater to his rich oil buddies

12

u/Ol_JanxSpirit 5h ago

Impossible to say with him.

1

u/Bendyb3n 3h ago

It was probably the excuse to cut funding for windmills and other sustainable electricity projects and keep the oil barrons happy

2

u/Ol_JanxSpirit 3h ago

Why not both? He definitely is obsessed with aesthetics and his weird definition of classy.

1

u/jason_sos 2h ago

More gold!

5

u/tomfkritchie22 3h ago

We could power the data centres that will go to on the front lawn of mar a logo with a whole load of wind turbines, piss him off in 2 different ways.

1

u/EuenovAyabayya 4h ago

Threatening him with a data center won't work, but threatening him with the wind turbines to power it just might. /s

3

u/amazingdrewh 6h ago

Isn't he there more than he's at the white house? Or was that just his first term

1

u/Ol_JanxSpirit 5h ago

He also has his course in Jersey.

1

u/No_Internal9345 4h ago

But won't someone please think of the children he has locked away in his underground Mar-a-Lago sex dungeon?

1

u/TRT_ 1h ago

Ain’t no way that grotesque thing is going to make it till next term

25

u/shawn_the_medic 5h ago

“The only reason that communities throughout the U.S.A. should not want Data Centers is if they want to end up being backwards and poor. If they want to be successful and rich, with far lower taxes and jobs all over the place, let Data Reign.”

14

u/RoguePlanet2 5h ago

Soooo gross. Tapping into the cult's inherent racism and superior attitudes, but insinuating poorer people are that way by choice. If they refuse data centers it's because they're "stupid" and "don't want to be wealthy." The propaganda machine is working overtime with this tool.

-7

u/shawn_the_medic 4h ago

If a town or county says no, the project goes somewhere else. Those places get the money and the jobs; the ones that refuse fall behind.

He called data centers the “Golden Goose.” Killing the goose would be self inflicted. He also framed local opposition as a gift to China in the AI race.

He was not claiming that every person who dislikes a data center next to their house is currently poor or uneducated.

The grammar is “if they want to end up being…” a warning about what happens if they opt out.

8

u/EtchAGetch 4h ago

Except there is no money or jobs in data centers. They barely employ anyone, and they suck up local resources driving prices higher, if not outright corrupting them.

Data Centers arent like factories with manual labor and jobs. And they dont produce anything that brings in people or goods. Hell, if they are talking about putting them in outer space, thats all you need to know about what benefit they have to local economy.

6

u/subnautus 4h ago

Nice of you to try to sane-wash Trump's commentary.

6

u/Par_Lapides 4h ago

Which is nonsense. The data centers rob the locals of land and ecology and export all their money outside the local economy.

6

u/UrsaMajor7th 5h ago

Does he ever stop insulting the people he's supposed to serve?

7

u/itsallprimal 6h ago

BRILLIANT!

3

u/Riptide2121 4h ago

The twat can't even handle "windmills" near his golf club in Scotland.

7

u/Sean_theLeprachaun 5h ago

The scumbag had the cherry trees in DC destroyed for his golf course, do you think he'd mess up his personal links for anything?

3

u/front_yard_duck_dad 5h ago

I mean I am the most poor I've ever been in my life under him. Cost of living is exponentially more than it was growing up for me and now I have a family to support in an area that is getting hit by climate disasters and crazy food recalls that never used to happen in this volume or mass.

I have to worry about pandemics, my kid getting shot at school. It just never ends

It's getting harder to live everyday for the working class while him and his billionaire parasite friends pillage the Earth of its resources, both natural and financial and cast us away like garbage

So yes I am both backwards and poor if he is setting the standards

3

u/butwhywedothis 4h ago edited 4h ago

You need to sell him in a language he understands.

Mr. President, if we put a data center in Mar-a-lago you can store unlimited child pictures and videos. We can also put a few flock cameras too, so you can receive 24 hour live stream from Kai and Ivanka.

3

u/willark1990 4h ago

Trump hates windmills because of their "noise"...

7

u/Substantial_Ad_7027 6h ago

Put one in his diapers.

7

u/ReaverRogue 5h ago

You’d get a shit connection.

4

u/bullydog123 5h ago

Just put him in prison already. Hes a ducking pedophile

2

u/drpacz 5h ago

Or his golf courses.

2

u/dont_panic80 5h ago

Trump can't even handle windmills near his golf course.

2

u/rainorshinedogs 4h ago

NIMBYism hard at work

2

u/Burgerlegend69 4h ago

Best idea ever. That would be so funny. "If people love them so much, Mr. Trump, how about we put a big data center, right behind Maralago".

Epic

2

u/original_cmikey 4h ago

Says the man who doesn't want to look at windmills.

2

u/NoblePickle84 4h ago

I miss when the news media would arrange tours of these places and they'd invite the local politicians and they'd show up and realize how stupid what they're recommending their constituents are being asked to live with.

2

u/Reverse_SumoCard 4h ago

Theres water around. Lets do this

2

u/HyetalNight 3h ago

GOD she’s the best. Remember a few years ago when she streamed AmongUs to connect with young people? That’s my fucking president right there

2

u/BikerMike03RK 3h ago

👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

2

u/_jump_yossarian 3h ago

Next Dem POTUS should revoke trump's ban on offshore drilling in Florida and approve a lease right in front of Sea to Lake. Watch the "drill, baby, drill!" patreet whine and whine about it.

2

u/Harvest827 2h ago

The guy who can't stop crying about windmills out in the open ocean by one of his precious golf courses wants us to know we are all being babies about a screaming data center by our actual homes.

2

u/OrvilleTheCavalier 2h ago

…and have it powered by windmills.

2

u/Bizprof51 5h ago

What he says he wants for others does not apply to him. He is above the law and above the rhetoric. He is a shmuck.

2

u/jjskellie 5h ago

Anybody remember the golden rule of Trump.

  Trump Never Pays for Anything

Not for work even with contracts. Not legal defense. Not for slander, open threats or cringe sexual offers. Heck, not sure he pays for paid sex.

2

u/fistsofham11 5h ago

Or one of his golf courses

2

u/JimJimmery 4h ago

As a golfer, I support this. I'd never play at one of his courses anyway.

2

u/driftking428 4h ago

I really wish she could be president. It doesn't feel like America is ready for a female president just yet.

1

u/hamsterfolly 5h ago

Trump would hate on a mar-a-lago data center like he currently does on wind turbines.

1

u/Nom_De_Plumber 5h ago

This is the same guy who argued against wind farms due to the aesthetics.

1

u/Gullible_Peach 5h ago

His golf courses could hold more than a few.

1

u/nadav183 5h ago

Nobody is going to complain about a data center using solar power in the middle of a desert. But it's too expensive to build there and too expensive to incentivise workers to go there for maintenance and installation. It seems to me that the cheap and poor here are the ones who try to build a loud, power hungry, behemoth of a structure at places where it would be cheaper, regardless of how it affects people.

1

u/22firefly 5h ago

the desire to blackmail, bribe, coerce, segregate, apprehend, punish, enslave, oppress runs deep and data centers are great for gathering all information in order to do so.

1

u/rebri 5h ago

A data center would make for a better neighbor than Mar-a-Lago.

1

u/Salty_Feed9404 4h ago

Isn't Mar-A-Lago where DOGE/Cronies house all the data they stole in 2025? Trump already had a head start on his data center

1

u/ancient_mariner63 4h ago

Mar-a-Lago is where data goes to die.

1

u/Punch_A_Police_Horse 4h ago

I wish I could remember the name of it, but AOC was part of something where the idea was to win over Trump supporters. It involved going to areas molested by AI data centers and talking to the people there. The footage shows the people being quite upset about them, but then it's like, would you vote for AOC over a republican if it meant getting rid of these data centers?

...

Okay, well, enjoy living in a wind turbine and drinking swill water you backward poors.

1

u/dusty-cat-albany 4h ago

So why we do cost /benefit analysis they are getting built to support AI, AI agents are responsible for 90% of spam, for phishing, searching out and harvesting personal data, hacking corporate web sites, ransomware, identity theft. How about before we build more data centers why don't we hold the companies responsible for creating these fraud monsters responsible for their crimes.

1

u/UnFrickinReal 4h ago

Solid answer

1

u/Prolapse94 3h ago

Ofcourse he'd say that. Because that's where they'll go; in poor areas because no one will genuinely stand up for poor because, where's the money in that?

1

u/intrepidakira 3h ago

You can even call it the DJT Data Center

1

u/Pin_ny 3h ago

NIMBY

1

u/duncanmarshall 2h ago

AOC is just the politics of memes.

1

u/Zer0323 2h ago

use eminent domain to take the best view.

1

u/Apprehensive-Pin518 2h ago

sopunds good. if he loves them so much and wants to look rich the he should get one.

1

u/owenstumor 1h ago

It's just like when texas bussed a bunch of migrants to the sanctuary cities. They like it, just not in their backyard, right?

1

u/grendus 1h ago

I'm perfectly fine with AI data centers on the following conditions:

  1. They add enough green energy to the grid to offset their power consumption.

  2. They are rigged in such a way that they can be shut down during power crunches. We can pay them for the power they contribute to the grid during said times.

  3. They use closed loop cooling.

  4. They use sound insulation so they cannot be heard from outside.

Shockingly, none of them actually want to do that as it's more expensive. Which is why the government should be stepping in to tell them to suck it up and pay for the privilege of having their stupid-add warehouses in the city.

1

u/Glittering_Pain_6150 1h ago

honestly the noise from those massive cooling fans would ruin his golf game in a week lol

1

u/mcmv1905gs 1h ago

Are his supporters really this stupid? He's like the elementary school bully, not even middle school.

1

u/curiousleen 1h ago

This is the energy…

1

u/greensangre 1h ago

He definitely does not want his ex wife dig up, bet he buried a lot of evidence

1

u/Wizard_with_a_Pipe 1h ago

I think we should knock down 1/3 of Mara Lago and build a data center. We should also change the name to Canada Lago. 😂 (I know it's not PC but I have informally named it Moron Lago, for now.)

u/E-2theRescue 47m ago

I mean, he mostly ain't wrong. They are poor.

But that's why they choose the spots for the data centers. They pick poor towns and neighborhoods to fuck poor people even more. Just like how they built interstates through black neighborhoods to create physical red-lined districts after the bans.

u/furrrlan 44m ago

what about you guys just put him in jail and call it a day ?

u/allonsy_danny 39m ago

No, don't do that either! We don't want any data centers anywhere.

u/Gold-Judgment-6712 35m ago

Careful now. They're your most fanatical supporters.

u/LonemannKratos 13m ago

NIMBY in full mode.

0

u/Own_Book_1988 4h ago

He's got a knack for clever comebacks..

-9

u/Exotic-Home-8153 4h ago

AOC is a huge grifter, BTW. It's why you can't find clips of her speaking for more than 2 min. She doesn't know how to do anything.

-7

u/IW-X6 4h ago

How is this clever? Like really, how is this clever? There are many things we wouldn't want to have in our backyard. Garbage fields, chemical plants, cow farm, etc..

-4

u/CuntWeasel 3h ago

This sub is now just political. Once in a blue moon you get an actual clever comeback, otherwise you just get stuff that would've been removed right after posting back when this sub was originally created.

They even changed the #1 rule:

It has to be a great response (preferably clever) to someone.

Preferably clever, that's how low the bar is these days.

-11

u/Telemere125 5h ago

I mean, I get what she’s trying to say, but I also wouldn’t want a sewage treatment plant right in my backyard and those are definitely good and necessary for the healthy and safety of everyone and living near one doesn’t automatically make you “backwards and poor”. In fact, I’d say at least with a minimal amount of distance, the further you live from a sewage treatment facility, the more backwards and poor you and at some point you’re literally in a 3rd world country.

10

u/floodcontrol 5h ago

What??

Your comparison is nonsense. Sewage treatment is a necessary thing and unfortunately, it doesn't smell great.

Data centers are not a necessary thing. They benefit very few people and the purpose of AI is to take everyone's knowledge-based jobs and give all the money people would have earned doing those jobs to already obscenely rich people.

With few exceptions the further you live from a data center, the less backwards and poor you are, so really, you have picked the exact opposite thing from a data center in order to try and weaken AOC's point. It's really astounding.

6

u/NuggetHighwind 5h ago

I've been on this website for like 12 years, and I don't think I've ever seen someone miss the point as hard as you just did.

-8

u/Telemere125 4h ago

Replace “data center” with “sewage treatment facility” in the argument

Trump: you are backwards and poor if you don’t want a sewage treatment facility in your neighborhood

AOC: let’s put one in Mar-a-Lago and see how “backward and poor” that is.

Yes, it’s backwards and poor to have one in your actual backyard. But it’s also backwards and poor to refuse to live anywhere near one.

See how that works?

Yall keep equating these to just big buildings that only run LLMs and image generators for gifs. You do realize that the cloud service that’s running Reddit is dependent on a data center, right?

5

u/CaptSubtext1337 5h ago

Sounded like you were going to have a rebuttal but you just agree

3

u/SenorPancake 5h ago

You don't seem to get what she's trying to say as what you are saying here aligns entirely with her point.

She isn't calling anybody backwards and poor. She's calling out Trump for referring to people opposed to data centers as backwards and poor.

u/Tzeig 34m ago

Complete nonsense by AOC.

-7

u/Cindylou735 4h ago

No one wants a data center in their back yard? Than don't scream when you lose service! Also, if China gets ahead of us, life as we know it, will be very (negatively) different. Think about that.
