Not necessarily. In my 42 years i met several dudes that thought only underweight girls are attractive. Some of them were quite fat themself, but only had (had, not wanted) very very skinny GF's and left them should they gain some weight (and shamed them because of it).

Iirc people that are in a relationship/happier often let themselves go more because of something in our primate brains.

It really depends on the person and how their bodies react to emotional changes. Some people eat more when they are sad, some instead stop eating.
