So I’ve had a Series X basically since launch and it’s been my go-to gaming machine for the last handful of years. I’ve also bought *a lot* of digital games over the years across previous Xbox consoles, so I’ve built up a bit of an ecosystem that I’m honestly pretty nervous about leaving behind.
I actually do prefer Sony’s exclusives, though. I grew up with a PS2 so Sony has always been pretty close to my heart, and I borrowed a friend’s PS5 for a while to catch up on some of the exclusives I’d missed. I really enjoyed it.
But for the last decade or so I’ve basically been an Xbox guy for a variety of reasons, friends being a big one. Most of those friends have moved on now though, so I’m thinking my next console will probably be a migration back to Sony.
I’d probably hang onto my Series X as a sort of “legacy machine” anyway, so I’d still have access to all the years of Xbox purchases. It would just mean starting a new ecosystem with PlayStation going forward.
My dilemma is GTA 6. Yes, I know, another fucking GTA 6 post lol.
One thing I will say is that I haven’t really been able to fully utilise the Series X because my current TV is only 60Hz. It’s OLED and HDR so it still looks great, but obviously it could be better.
So if I’m eventually considering migrating back to Sony anyway, would it be worth doing that *now* with a PS5 Pro, along with upgrading my TV, and then getting GTA 6 on the Pro?
It’ll probably be a year or so before I can actually do all of this, so I’m not in a rush.
OR would I be just as well off upgrading my TV to a good 120Hz set, getting the full benefit out of the Series X, and just playing GTA 6 on that?
Basically, how much of a difference is the PS5 Pro version realistically going to make? Is it likely to be enough of an upgrade over Series X to justify buying a Pro and starting the whole PlayStation ecosystem, or would I be better off waiting and seeing what happens later?
I’m also wondering whether the Sony migration can just wait until the next generation rather than using GTA 6 as the excuse to jump ship now.
Honestly, borrowing a PS5 every now and then to stay on top of the Sony exclusives while using Xbox for everything else has actually been a pretty good setup for me for the last several years….lol
But things are changing, so maybe it’s finally time to return to the Sony fold lol.
I’m not a PC gamer at all, BTW, so that’s not really part of the equation. Please don’t bother suggesting to get one instead either, as for a multitude of reasons that’s just neither an option or even an interest in my personal life arm.
What would you do? Upgrade the TV and stick with Series X for GTA 6, or take the opportunity to jump to PS5 Pro?
