The inclusion of the Phantom Ruby and using it as an argument against mind hax is so funny to me. That shit literally tears apart EVERY SINGLE ARGUMENT for the Sonic crew resisting having their minds messed with in base so Mewtwo has an even easier argument for turning Shadow's brain into spaghetti before Super Shadow comes out

On such a nice day, a barbecue is needed! We also added a lot of fun outside activities for residents! And we're so proud for Sephiroth offering to make the Sun's rays hit them more for that nice heat! ...Although uhh... is it just me or is the Sun getting bigger? And is that Venus and Mercury?

Rule 1 in Death Battle: Never make a Father angry in a Death Battle featuring his son as a combatent

After yesterday, I wanted to counteract a bit of the negativity in my last post with some portrayals of characters which I actually really liked

Joker: I absolutely loved Joker’s portrayal in Joker vs Giorno! While he did get beat up for the first chunk of the fight, it isn’t as bad as everyone says imo. But the moment when Joker gets caught in the infinite death loop and is in the interrogation room, but he manages to escape with all of the Phantom Thieves (and Akechi + Sumire I think?) cheering him on is probably my favorite moment in all of Death Battle. It’s just such a cool moment that I loved to see as a massive Persona fan (and I wasn’t deep in the Death Battle community during this time, so I genuinely thought Giorno was gonna win) and the following scene where Joker summons Satanael with the “Checkmate” line is also just badass

Bowser: Probably the best characterized on this entire list? It’s a bit hard to lock down why I really like his characterization, but he just kinda oozes with Bowser energy and I can see him saying every single line he drops. I really like how many scenes there are of him caring for his troops, such as him using magic to protect his army from Infinite, him getting enraged and using the Grand Star to wipe out Metal Sonic after he spin dashes through Jr, him jumping in front of his army to block the Death Egg laser from hitting them, etc etc. It’s just so good, and I’m glad that they really focused on this aspect of Bowser since it’s one of his most likable traits that sets him apart from a lot of other villains

Mahito: Should Shigaraki be here instead? Yeah probably. But also… Man, they just nailed Mahito in this episode. I know most people were rooting against Mahito or just wanted to see him die, and while I really liked his death too, I really appreciate how much they just let him ham up the fight prior to being defeated. All the little bits like him going for the kiss attack, his clones grinning and cackling while jumping Shigaraki, him landing the Black Flash with the “WHAT A RUSH!” line as he smiles before transforming, you can tell how much he’s enjoying himself and it really works to showcase his playful nature. This is also a bit of a big claim, but I’d argue that Mahito has the best voice acting in the entire indie era. At the very least, he’s the only character who I actively go back to listen to lines of. (cont.)

(cont.) “Audition over.” “(licking blood off of his sword arm) Did I get the part?” is probably my favorite exchange on Death Battle, it scratches an itch in my brain. The banter is just so good. And then the climax where Mahito uses his Domain Expansion and tries breaking down Shigaraki both physically and mentally as he picks apart his past is such a good way to use his character and show his torment of others. And yeah, Shigaraki breaking the domain and chasing down Mahito while he runs away like a little bitch is also awesome. Shigaraki vs Mahito is just so good, and I was happy to see one of my favorite villains steal the show here (while Shigi also got his moments to shine as well)

Hulk: My favorite aspect about Hulk as a character is his relationship with Bruce Banner and their dynamic together. I did like Hulk vs Doomsday and Hulk vs Broly, but they didn’t really tackle this side of the character which I really like so seeing Bruce be one of the focal points of the episode was really awesome. Hulk also didn’t get sidelined in favor of Bruce, since he was still the one who took down Godzilla’s avatar and was also instrumental in taking down the entity. They just have a really good mix, and Bruce’s monologue of “A million, trillion to one and rising” was cool as hell. I think the way this fight plays out is one of the most unique on the show, and I really enjoyed it. Bruce falling down from the sky and dropping “You did it, big guy. We did it.” is also just the cherry on top

Denji: In contrast to Yuji (who I’ve been very vocal about not liking the characterization of, although I wouldn’t like to argue about that here), I think Denji was absolutely the highlight of the episode. They nailed his manic Part 1 energy and let him ham up the fight with his antics, which was absolutely a must for a Denji episode. He probably has the most moments in Death Battle which I can point to and go “HELL YEAH” like the “instant chainsaw death technique” into nut kick, him faking the Domain Expansion into another nut kick, walking through Yuji’s dismantles like Mahoraga, etc. I also like his dialogue when he transforms into Denji-Man where he tells Yuji that he and Pochita are brothers, and that he’ll never keep them apart. I will say that his characterization isn’t too accurate to Part 2? Since there, Denji’s a lot more subdued - although he still has his manic energy from time to time. That’s not too bad though. I think they got the best portrayal of Denji for a Death Battle, and his portrayal here + his analysis is holding the episode together for me despite my issues with Yuji’s handling

Honorable mentions to Ash and Yugi too, I think both of them had excellent characterization in their episode and I really loved Ash’s Ten Million Bolt Thunderbolt moment with Pikachu as well as Yugi taking over the fight from Yami Yugi to close it out

I’d really like to see what other Death Battle portrayals people really loved! :)

DCC is literally one of the trendiest book series in the world rn, at least in the fantasy space, and is about to get a live action series by Seth McFarlane.

Like sure all the characters were changed into legally distinct ocs, Wiz and Boomstick were recasted, and the online multiplayer sucked ass, but.... the music was good...... right?
