Hey everyone! I just finished building MysterySort, a premium web-based color sorting puzzle built entirely on Devvit Web and I’m looking for playtesters and feedback before submitting it for official app directory review!

🎮 Play the reddit Sandbox Build here: Open to play inline on Desktop and Mobile Reddit App!

✨ Key Features:

Classic Sort + Hard Mode modifiers:

❓ Mystery Balls: Hidden colors that only reveal when balls above them are moved.

🔒 Sealed Tubes: Lock covers that only pop open after you complete your first visible tube.

🏷️ Tag Tubes: Dedicated colored markers. Tagged colors can only complete in their matching Tag Tube.

🏆 Competition: Live Daily Challenge puzzles with a global leaderboard, daily streaks, and comment sharing.

♿ Accessibility: Fully colorblind-friendly with distinct engraved patterns on the balls and keyboard support.

🛠️ Technical Details:

• Built using React 19, Vite and Hono for the server adapter.

• Uses Devvit Redis for rate limiting, state tracking, and leaderboard storage.

• Zero external fetches (100% platform-native storage and execution for fast-track app approval).

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the pouring animations, board responsiveness, and general difficulty scaling. Thank you in advance for testing it out! 🙏

Help India-based individual Devvit developers: How did you complete Stripe Express verification?

Thumbnail

I'm an individual Devvit developer based in India. My game has been approved and I'm trying to complete payout verification.

I've completed Persona verification, but during Reddit's Stripe Express onboarding, when I select:

Country: India
Business type: Individual

Stripe shows:

“Accepting international payments is not available for individual user. If you plan to do so, please change to the supported legal entity.”

I don't have a registered company, LLP, or sole proprietorship, and I don't want to select an incorrect legal entity.

I understand Reddit uses Stripe Express for payouts rather than a normal Stripe merchant account, but I'm unsure whether this warning can safely be ignored.

Has any India-based individual Devvit developer successfully completed this exact Stripe Express onboarding as “Individual” and received Reddit payouts?

If yes, did you simply continue after this warning, or was any business registration required?

I've also opened a Devvit support ticket, but I'd really appreciate hearing from someone in India who has successfully completed the process.

Feature Request Bot Idea/Request

I don’t know if this is the best place to post this idea/request.

However, is anyone able to make a bot that responds when people use “it’s” instead of “its” and corrects them? Or is there a way to make this bot myself?

I know it’s petty, but it’s one of my biggest pet peeves, and it seems like very few people know the difference between “it’s” and “its” these days…

Help Requesting SUBSCRIBE_TO_SUBREDDIT enablement for topiclingo-daily

Could the user-actions subscribe permission be enabled for my app topiclingo-daily, please? Same situation as this earlier thread: permissions.reddit.asUser: ["SUBSCRIBE_TO_SUBREDDIT"] is declared in devvit.json, version 0.0.23 is published, approved, and publicly listed, and the app is installed on its home subreddit (r/TopicLingo) — but subscribeToCurrentSubreddit() (triggered only by an explicit user button tap) still fails with not allowed to run as user: permission not granted for [SUBSCRIBE_TO_SUBREDDIT]. From that thread it looks like this needs a per-app enablement on Reddit's side.

Thank you!

Discussion I didn't win the hackathon. I've been promoting my game myself for two weeks. Here is every number I have

I entered a hackathon, didn't win, and have been trying to promote my daily puzzle game by hand since. Two threads here this week are arguing about whether Devvit games get played, using subreddit visitor counts as the evidence. I have never seen anyone post a full funnel, so here is all of mine.

r/deducto_puzzle Daily logic grid. Running since mid July.

My posts

sub views upvotes comments
r/puzzlevideogames 714 2 1
r/GamesOnReddit 567 1 0
r/Devvit 551 1 0
r/GamesOnReddit 504 1 1
r/playmygame 250 0 0
total 2586 5 2

Upvote rate on views & comment rate are less then 1%.

The funnel

2586 post views
29 have ever opened the game, all time
15 closed at least one case
4 came back on 3 separate days
1 is on a 7 day run, 13 cases closed

What my subreddit says

members 9
unique visitors last week 11
avg daily unique visitors 2

Daily

people who close a case on a normal day 2-4
best day, right after a post 8
median solve time 3:30

I’ve got one regular user now who’s already built up a 7-day streak. Honestly, I’m already happy with that result, but I don’t want to stop there!

What I take from it

Over half the people who open it finish it. So the thing works once you are in.

The leak is one step earlier. Out of a thousand people who see a post about the game, 29 open it. That is where the whole funnel dies, and I did not expect it. I assumed the game was confusing.

How did your game perform?

I’d be happy to see your numbers too - what results have you managed to get with your game?

Also, what communities would you recommend for promoting a game like this?

Duck Answered Question: the developer fund is not available after 2 months

Hi team,

I have a question regarding the developer funding program, do you know when the funding will be available? I completed the enrolment a while ago during the previous program (I was/am eligible for Tier 2) but haven't received the fund yet. When I navigated through the documents, I found a vague statement saying the longest delay might be about 40 days and it has been longer than that. I'm not sure if it's normal or there's any step I missed.

Please let me know if there's any further info I could provide.

Thanks.

Help Clarity on rules for external data

I am trying to connect my app to a data source for market data. Very similair to the wallstreetbets data. However the service for the market data will be hosted by my own service.
The rules are confusing me a little bit as it mentions that you are not allowed to make your own endpoints, but cloud providers are allowed.

Allow-listed domains fall into three categories:

APIs that provide data or specific services (e.g., api.openai.com, api.wikipedia.org) - These will be approved if they have a publicly documented and publicly accessible API for valid use cases, and if they adhere to the Devvit rules. Please reference our AI providers and account linking policies for common invalid use cases.

Limited scope cloud providers (e.g., username.supabase.com, my-app.firebase.com) - May be granted with exceptions. You must:

Follow user privacy guidelines and data governance requirements

Use an approved provider from the list below (please include your subdomain, and request for the most granular domain possible, e.g. my-app.s3.amazonaws.com)

supabase.com

firebase.com

spacetimedb.com

s3.amazonaws.com

storage.googleapis.com

Demonstrate a capability that u/devvit/server doesn't support

Valid use cases include relational databases

Note: Approval can be revoked at any time

Personal domains (e.g., personaldomain.com) - Will not be approved. If you have a use case that our Devvit server does not support, please submit your request with detailed justification for a possible exception.

Does this mean I have to host my service on supabase rather than my own domain?
Also where can i make the request? I dont see any link in the docs for the request.

Help Best practice for cross-installation config when using a shared "dashboard" post?

Hi all,

I am looking at building a moderation app (per-subreddit watchlist that triggers actions on new posts/comments). I'd like a single dashboard post - hosted on a hub subreddit I own - that mods can use to manage their subreddit's config, similar to how some other mod apps do it such as Stop-AI. The motivation for this is to allow less tech-savvy mods to create complex rulesets without needing to dive into the auto-moderator yaml, which is an issue for a subreddit I moderate where I am the only mod who knows how to make an auto-moderator config.

From what I can see Redis is contained to each subreddit, so I couldn't have a flow where the installed subreddit checks for config related data set via the hub subreddit dashboard.

Questions:

  1. Is an external HTTP backend (outside Devvit, via permissions.http) genuinely the only way to bridge data across installations, or is there a Devvit-native mechanism I'm missing (e.g. some form of shared/global storage scoped to the app rather than the installation)? If the HTTP backend is the only way, is there a recommended API to use which is more likely to be approved?
  2. For anyone who's shipped something like this - what did you use as the external store, and how do you authenticate app -> API calls (secrets config, verifying mod status server-side before trusting a write, etc.)?
  3. Is there a recommended pattern for caching per-installation data in local Redis to avoid an external round-trip on every single trigger invocation?

Any pointers to docs or examples appreciated.

Duck Answered Users can't auto post from my game

Hi everyone!

I've updated my Devvit installation to 0.14.1 from 0.13.1, published my game update, had it approved, yet now when a user tries to post a challenge from within the game they are not allowed to do so.

This is what I see in Devvit logs:

Failed to create Mini Racer head-to-head: Error: post submission failed: ValidationErrors([(Reason="This community only allows trusted members to post here", Field="sr", ShortName="SUBREDDIT_NOTALLOWED", Code=400)])

Nothing was changed in my game regarding posting and I'm testing this in two communities: one closed to guests, one open to guests. There are no restrictions for posting on any of them.

What am I missing?

Discussion I built Consensus Canvas — a two-axis community poll approved on the App Directory

Hey r/Devvit! My app Consensus Canvas just got approved and publicly listed.

What it does: Moderators create a prompt with four axis labels (left/right/top/bottom). Members place one anonymous dot on the 2D grid. After voting, everyone sees the aggregate density map and community average.

Use cases:
- "How should this community balance speed and depth?" (Refine ↔ Explore, Individual ↔ Community)
- "Where does your taste fall?" (Sweet ↔ Savory, Light ↔ Heavy)

Technical highlights:
- Custom post with runAs: 'USER' — full moderator attribution
- Zero external services — runs entirely on Devvit Redis
- Anonymous aggregate only — no individual vote records stored

Install it: https://developers.reddit.com/apps/consensus-canvas

Happy to answer questions about the implementation or share what I learned during the review process.

Feedback Request Looking for feedback: Ride Bike (one-tap gravel rider, just shipped public)

I’m looking for feedback on a game I published today.

Ride Bike is a one-tap gravel rider for Reddit. Tap to hop, collect the orange service tiles, avoid the logs. Distance is the score. The bike upgrades automatically if you stay on the trail long enough.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Ride_Bike/comments/1vxwsf3/ride_bike/

I’d appreciate notes on:

- whether the controls are obvious in the first few seconds

- whether the HUD is readable or too busy

- how hopping feels on mobile

Thank you.

Discussion Automated Users? (As approved apps)

Hey. I’ve noticed users that appear to be AI on Reddit. They have an app symbol next to their name, so they appear to be to be an approved app. But they’re commenting as a normal, human user. That appears to be all they do.

I don’t see an info about these “apps” here.

Are these allowed? What does the devvit community think of these?

Feedback Request Heyo! Check out Cribbage Casino hosted on Devvit

I grew up playing Cribbage, a card game, and eventually came up with my own poker variation a couple years ago. I started developing an application version last year and happily found Reddit as a solution for hosting and ideally attracting players to the game. It’s all original and my own creation. Would love for the Devvit community to check it out and let me know what they think. I’ve been checking out your games as well! You can play it on my subreddit https://www.reddit.com/r/CribbageSlots/s/ZZGkBBB5ch ciao!

Duck Answered Bug: Wiki v2 (new Reddit) doesn't render Markdown for content written via reddit.updateWikiPage(), identical content renders fine under v1

EDIT

Turns out it works with HTML in the new wiki, however there's still a bug where you can't copy the text when in edit mode, but that's a reddit bug not a devvit one, so problem solved.

Devvit version: @devvit/public-api ^0.14.0 (Node 24 runtime)

What I did

Wrote the exact same Markdown content to the same wiki page path under both wiki versions, using reddit.updateWikiPage() / reddit.createWikiPage() with wikiVersion: "v1" and wikiVersion: "v2" respectively:

# Content

From this week's megathread: https://www.reddit.com/r/subreddit/comments/id/

22 question(s) with no replies:

- https://www.reddit.com/r/subreddit/comments/id/subject/id2/ - https://www.reddit.com/r/subreddit/comments/id3/subject/id4/ ...

Expected

Both versions render the # heading and - bullet list as Markdown, same as if a human had typed this into the wiki editor directly.

Actual

v1 (viewed on old.reddit.com): renders correctly, real h1 heading, real bullet list, each URL auto-linked.

v2 (viewed on new Reddit / www.reddit.com): renders as one flat block of plain text. The # and - markers show up as literal characters, not parsed as Markdown, and the URLs aren't auto-linked. Same content, same write call shape, just wikiVersion swapped:

- old Reddit (v1): proper heading + bullet list + clickable links - new Reddit (v2): "# Unanswered Questions From this week's Questions megathread: ... 22 question(s) with no replies: - https://... - https://..." all run together as unformatted text

Additionally, in the new-Reddit wiki edit mode for the v2 page, the content in the textarea doesn't behave like normal selectable/copyable text, I can't select-and-copy it out of the edit box the way I can on the old.reddit.com editor for the same page.

Impact

Any app that writes structured wiki content (headings, lists, links) via the Devvit API and targets wikiVersion: "v2" gets unusable, unformatted output on new Reddit, even though the identical content is correctly rendered under v1. This makes v2 wiki pages effectively unusable for anything beyond a single unformatted paragraph until this is fixed, and undermines the migration guidance to move apps onto v2.

Repro

1. Call reddit.updateWikiPage({ subredditName, page, content: "# Heading\n\n- item one\n- item two", wikiVersion: "v2" }) on a v2-enrolled subreddit. 2. View the page at www.reddit.com/r//wiki/<page>. 3. Compare against the same call with wikiVersion: "v1", viewed at old.reddit.com/r//wiki/<page>.

Feature Request Please allow us to update app settings programmatically

Currently, app settings can only be updated in one of two ways: Either by using the app settings page on developers.reddit.com, or by using the Devvit CLI. I think it would be very useful to be able to update app settings programmatically, via a function such as reddit.setSetting() or some similar name.

An example of how this could be very beneficial is: Let's say one of my Mod Tools app's settings is a boolean value and I want to change it to a select, to give the user/mod more options. Ideally, I'd like to base the default value of that select setting on the previous value of the boolean setting, so that when the app is updated, it doesn't break the workflow for mods.

I also logged an "issue" on GitHub with this request, so if any admin likes this idea, feel free to use that ticket for tracking purposes.

Help Which Firebase hostname should I request for fetch approval? (.web.app isn't on the list)

Hi guys.

Been rejected twice on fetch domain requests and I'm going in circles.

Sooo to start, my app is a bar finder for out-of-market sports fans. Basically think a mass database for NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, Soccer, etc teams all in one instead of being listed by each team separately. Also allows users to rate the bars based on loyalty/enthusiasm. There are a few different ways of doing that. Anyways, the bar data is in Firestore and it's the same database my iOS and Android apps use, so it has to stay the source of truth. Devvit's Redis is per-subreddit so it can't hold any of that.

First I requested the cloudfunctions.net hostname. Rejected and received no feedback. Figured that was the problem, so I put it behind a domain I own, which I now realize is the "personal domains" bucket. Rejected again, but also no reason.

So I went back to the policy and here's my problem: the approved list says firebase.com. But Firebase doesn't hand out project hostnames on firebase.com. You get .web.app, .firebaseapp.com, or .cloudfunctions.net, and none of those are on the list. I genuinely can't tell what a compliant Firebase endpoint would even look like.

Is firebase.com meant to cover Firebase-hosted stuff generally?

Appreciate any and all help guys.

How do you edit the sidebar using Devvit (auto update the sidebar hourly)? Including:

  • Sidebar [old Reddit]
  • Edit (not create) widgets [new Reddit]

This post tries to link to updateWidget for new Reddit stuff, but the link is dead. A search via the upper right box for updateWidget says "No results".
