Read the WIKI before posting

9 times out of 10 it will have the answers you are looking for.

Where is my post?

Why isn't my post showing up?

If you are new to reddit, posting with a new account, or posting with an account that has not been widely used your post will be flagged as it either looks like spam, or is highly likely to be an FAQ covered in the wiki above. We ask that you please spend some time searching through existing posts, reviewing the wiki or participating in the sub to build up enough karma to post. You can also post a comment in the Monthly Megathread pinned to the top of the sub.

I am not new to reddit but post still isn't showing up, why not?

Due to the volume of posts we get on a few very specific subjects we will often remove or not-approve certain posts on certain topics that have been recently discussed. Here are some common questions that get posted at least 5 times a day:

My post wasn't related to any of those things, why isn't it showing up?

Does your post violate our rules on self promotion?

OK, here’s the deal. We understand that for many of us, entrepreneurship and digital nomad are concepts that go hand in hand. Many of us here are working towards booting up great products, and some working towards products that cater directly to the DN community. But, this sub is not a community full of potential people to market to with your posts.

Your product may be great, brilliant, and what every DN needs but never knew it, but if that’s true then it’ll be talked about by the community once it’s known - through other channels. In this sub, we frequently get spam and does the entire community a disservice. Users get annoyed, the community starts to weaken, the moderators get overly aggressive, posts that should be OK end up automatically in the spam filter. These things are not good for anyone.

Here’s some No No’s:

  • Absolutely no surveys. Surveys will be removed without mercy.

  • No requests for interviews, or people to talk to on your blog/book/podcast/etc.

  • Anything about illegal activities. You’ll be awarded a ban, and maybe then some.

  • No asking for “please review/try my…”. There are many other subs for just that.

  • Looking for Work type posts. See the Jobs wiki if you are looking for work

  • Job postings. If you have a job that you are trying to hire for please post it in the Weekly Discussion Threads.

  • Fund my kickstarter! Nope. Not even for your “friend”.

  • Any “opportunity” to become a partner / investor. We can’t tell this from a scam, so it’ll be treated like a scam.

  • No direct links to products using an affiliate ID. If you’re caught, you’ll be punished.

  • Posting to software/apps/web sites/etc, with "PM me for access". If it's not public, it's not welcome.

  • Posting software/apps/etc that aren't complete and ready to use. This isn't a user interest collection sub.

Here’s some highly discouraged things:

  • Linking to your youtube channel - We do allow people to share youtube videos if they are relevant and if they come from users who are active in the community and provide valuable content such as trip reports. If you want to share your youtube content please message the mods first for approval.

  • Linking to your own blog - We allow you to share your blog as a link in a self post if the primary content of the blog post is also included in the self post and the link is more of a "Click here to learn more".

  • Top X lists without detailed reviews for each item. We don't hate lists but these posts are rarely useful. Instead of posting a link, post the content of the list in a self post for discussion.

  • "Where should I go" posts : Check out the Trip Reports for Inspiration. If you still want advice be very specific about what you are looking for, and be sure to include important information like your nationality and budget/

LAPTOP PICS / LOCATION PICS

This gets its own section because it is somewhat controversial. If you are posting a pretty picture of somewhere you are, you MUST fill out either a trip report or answer the automod questions about the place. Anyone found dumping pictures without giving in depth information about the location will have their post removed.

Suggestions

If your post still isn't showing up and you think it should, message the moderators first and be sure to include the word "peanut" in the message title so we know you read this.

Have a product you want to inform us about? Buy an ad on reddit to target this (and other) related subs. You’ll get the exposure you want, without the community backlash. It’s good for reddit as a whole too!

Want to talk about a product or service that’s not yours, but you really like? Try linking to a third party, impartial review from a known trusted source. If you wrote it, avoid affiliate links in the article and be sure to mention any relevant disclosures if you are involved with creating the product or marketing it.

Want to link to your site about your experience with something? Great! We encourage that, but focus on the content not how many visitors might join your mailing list. If you truly were writing content for the greater good, put it on medium.com.

Instead of a Top 10 list, which has just a picture and some basic stats: Write a detailed comparison of just two places. With real meaty content, data and stories.

Have a coupon for a product? Actually, that might be good. But unless it’s a high ticket item like a car or laptop, 5% off won’t cut it. The coupon must have more value to the community than for the person that posted it.

Thanks!

Question Local friends circles in 2nd/3rd homes you spend multiple months each year

Upvotes

Been a digital nomad 4 years now. Mostly enjoying it. Love the freedom.

Long story short, despite meeting so many amazing ppl, it's getting tired to not 'belong' to any of these places or have lasting time spent with local friends. Classic nomad problem, I suppose.

I got the idea to include 1-2 places each year that I return to for 3 months each year, in addition to about that time in my hometown and the rest checking out new places, I suppose.

There are really only 2 places where I want to return regularly. In each place I have a significant and cherished friend circle. One of those places I've returned to multiple times and enjoy seeing the same friends. It's like feeling at home despite not spending a ton of time there.

Anyways, does anyone here do that? I'm curious about others' experiences of being able to hold long term friends and friend groups in a place despite being an outsider and only spending a few months a year? Am I being naive and wanting my to have my cake and eat it too?

I dunno maybe I am, but I'm just trying to be creative about ways to enjoy benefits of nomadism and being part a community at the same time. Tired of being lonely and wondering if there is a way to avoid that without stopping nomadism altogether.

Thanks for any thoughts/suggestions/experiences.

Question Spain DNV as US-company contractor with wife/child — looking for recent experiences

For those who successfully got Spain’s Digital Nomad Visa as independent contractors, especially with family:

I work remotely as an independent contractor for a US company and am planning to move to Spain next year. My minor daughter will apply with me and my wife may join the same application.

I’d love to hear from people with a similar setup:

  1. What did you submit to prove the contractor relationship and income?
  2. How did you handle Spanish Social Security/RETA requirements?
  3. Did you register as autónomo before filing, after approval, or after arriving?
  4. Did your spouse/children need their own NIE before the visa application?
  5. Did you qualify through professional experience instead of a university degree?
  6. Any surprises when applying together as a family?

I’m especially interested in recent 2025–2026 experiences since the practical requirements seem to vary by consulate.

Thanks!

Question Destination Enthusiasm

Ever notice how some people get really defensive about certain destinations? You're almost guaranteed outraged shrieking if you make fun of Tulum, for example. What do you suppose that is all about?

Lifestyle What are your hobbies that travel well?

I'm often going to language exchanges and hiking meetups but I'm always looking for a new way to meet people when I travel. Volunteering has been hit or miss over the years of my nomading.

Activities like Crossfit and tennis have built in communities around the world. You have physically fit people who are at least someone goal-oriented. Tech/AI meetups are frequent in most cities.

Any hobbies, activities or events that you specialize in as you travel city to city? How do you utilize them to have a life outside of work?

Business How do you handle work calls when you’re moving between countries?

Been wondering how people here deal with this.

If you work with clients back home but travel around a lot, do you keep one number that works wherever you are or just get a local SIM every time?

I’d rather not keep changing numbers and having to update clients whenever I move. What’s been the easiest setup for you?

Question Is there anybody on here with a chronic illness that became a digital nomad out of concern for high medical bills?

I'm on Medicaid due to chronic illnesses that create a disabling amount of chronic fatigue. For years, I've been too afraid to try working or start a business due to the possibility of losing Medicaid. My symptoms significantly affect my ability to work. My symptoms can also fluctuate, making it a little hard to know how much work I can do from week to week or month to month. That being said, I have several degrees and have found some work I might be able to do. The only problem is, I've done the math and, if I'm in the US, I would need to make $30-$40K to cover the increased cost of medical care. I live in Nebraska and growing a business is also hard because you can be kicked off of Medicaid after just 10 days if your income goes above the limit one month. I have gotten a little bit more stable and while traveling to another country is not ideal, I've been debating moving to a low cost of living country with a decent healthcare system. I'm mostly concerned about having a medical emergency and then going bankrupt or being left to die if I can't afford my care. Has anybody experienced this.

Question Got put on a PIP for work location among other things. Anyone else have experience with this?

Posted this on r/careerguidance and got pretty chewed out. Looking for more opinions.

I'm in an admin/operations type of position at an insurance company that is fully remote and has unlimited PTO. Prior to being hired, I made it clear to my boss that I would be in two different states throughout the summer and would have more info on my permanent residence by September. I asked if there was flexibility for remote work within the US and the response was "Yes. When will you know if it's a permanent move?" with no reaction to my response.

To put it clearly, I've spent 1-2 months at a time in different states since being hired 4 months ago. As I said, this was previously disclosed and there is no policy on where I'm allowed to work from.

Another point that I didn't make in the last post was that my intention was to spend the summer sort of month to month in these two states that I was considering moving to.

I know that my manager was getting uncomfortable as I kept receiving questions from her. I didn't however expect to suddenly be put on a PIP.

Had never received negative feedback until the week of the PIP, I get told I'm taking "Excessive PTO" (7.5 days in 4 months at an unlimited pto company with a guaranteed 25 days, all days were approved same-day of request, which was placed 20-30 days in advance of the PTO.

She stated so many things, such as my PTO caused deliverables to be missed (which imo is not true, I know whats on my desk), without listing what the deliverables were.

She also said that "outside work commitments" conflict with my job. The situation was that I had asked if I could miss one of 3 dinners at a company offsite that was made official just 25 days before the event date. (There's no real mention of travel in my job offer). I asked because I'm working in the evenings as a math mentor and this was the only training I could attend. I asked politely, in advance, and didn't try to negotiate. Yet she took an issue because it showed I had "lack of prioritization" and that if my teammates knew I even asked, they would feel as though I dont respect their time.

Some other stuff on my PIP - they paid more in flights than they expected because they thought I was at my permanent residence rather than one of the two states I had disclosed I would be at during the summer. My documentation is bad (they found two small instances of missing files). Apparently people at the company have had concerns about me or asked my whereabouts -- I've never heard any of it from them.

Basically, my manager agreed that this is largely optics when I pushed, and said that none of these individualy are a big deal, but the pattern shows a "lack of reliability, poor judgment and poor prioritization".

The PIP has basically no metrics, no examples to back the claims of missed deliverables or excessive pto. Any advice? Has anyone been in this position? There is an offsite where I will be with the company for an extended period of time this week, and I'm feeling pretty anxious about it.

Question DTV application from Spain 🇹🇭

Just want to prepare everything in advance. Thanks!

Question Has anyone here moved to Spain on the Digital Nomad Visa? Looking for advice

My girlfriend and I are thinking about moving to Spain sometime next year and we’re starting to figure out the Digital Nomad Visa process.

She’s Mexican and I’m American, so I’m assuming the process or requirements might be a little different for each of us.

Has anyone here actually gone through the Spanish Digital Nomad Visa process recently? I’d love to hear what the experience was like, how complicated it was, how long it took, and anything you wish you knew before starting.

We’re also trying to decide where in Spain we’d want to live. I definitely prefer warmer weather and I’m not a huge fan of the cold, so southern Spain is pretty appealing. I’d love somewhere with a good quality of life, things to do, and ideally some kind of digital nomad/international community.

If you’ve done it, where did you end up living and would you choose the same place again?

Any advice, recommendations, or things we should start preparing now would be really helpful. Thanks!

Question What remote job(s) do you have that allow you to live in SEA?

Hi all. I do not yet have a college degree and I'm from the U.S. My only work experience has been patient care and working in an emergency department. I'm wanting to get a remote job of any kind so that I could afford to stay with my partner in the Philippines. With that amount and our incomes combined, we could afford an apartment together. Are there any certifications or short term courses that would enable me to meet qualifications for any remote work? Most of the positions I've found already seem to be scams or ghost jobs. Could English teaching pay that much? Any recommendations? Thanks and I hope you all have a great day.

Question Spain DNV with a Family - Experiences from other Digital Nomads?

Hi everyone! I’m considering moving to Spain with my wife and our young daughter next year through the Digital Nomad Visa, and I’d love to hear from people who have already made the move.

A little about us: I’m Moroccan and work remotely as an independent contractor for a US company. I’ve been working with the same company for a few years, my income is comfortably above the DNV requirement for a family, and my wife is currently pursuing a PhD, so we would most likely apply with me as the main applicant and my wife and daughter as dependents.

On paper, Spain seems like a really good fit for us, especially because we want to stay relatively close to Morocco. My biggest questions now are less about qualifying for the visa and more about what life actually looks like once you're there.

A few things I’m curious about:

  • Choosing a city: Which cities would you recommend for a young family that offer a great lifestyle, good infrastructure and an international community, but without the housing competition of places like Madrid or Barcelona? We’ve looked at Valencia, Málaga, Madrid and others and comments have discouraged us.
  • Finding an apartment: How difficult was it as a DNV holder without Spanish payroll? Were you asked for several months of rent upfront?
  • Real cost of living & taxes: I likely wouldn’t qualify for the Beckham Law. After regular Spanish taxes, social security, rent, childcare and everyday expenses, how comfortable do you find life in Spain?
  • Renewals: Has renewing the DNV been relatively straightforward? Anything you wish you knew before moving?

And are there any Moroccans here who went through the DNV process?  I’d love to connect and hear about your experience applying from Morocco and relocating with a family.

Thanks!

Question What to be cautious of when applying? (Spain)

Hi all,

I’m planning on applying for Spain’s Telework Visa soon. It seems pretty straightforward that I qualify, but everything I need to apply for - and correctly - also seems like a bit of a daunting task.

I’m planning on having all my ducks in a row, travel to Spain, and do it there so that I can hopefully get a 3-year permit. I don’t plan to seek legal aid.

What are some things I should be cautious of, that I should be certain I have done correctly, etc.?

Just looking for others who have already gone through it and might be able to offer some cautionary tales and helpful advice.

TIA.

Edit: I appreciate the responses so far, but I’m referring more to the application process itself. Is there anything in particular that tripped anyone up? Anything that the Spanish government is specifically looking for that applicants often miss? Just want to make sure I do this correctly….

Question Could long-term camping / glamping actually make me more productive, or is this just novelty?

Btw I did use AI to make the post more readable, my brain is pretty tired, but I did write the whole foundation/points myself, just to let you know, I do want to ask you about your opinion / experiences.

I know this is a nomad subreddit, so that can mean various things. I’m mostly curious about people who have done long-term camping, RV/car living, glamping, or traveled around while working from a laptop.

Basically, the next 6 months are pretty important for me, it's not some 6 months fixed timeline I have, but it's about something that Can be done in the next 6 months that could literally change my life entirely.

I work for myself from a laptop and I’m at a point with my business/project where I don’t actually need 12 hour workdays. What I need is maybe 3-6 genuinely high quality focused hours, 4-5 days a week, consistent is better but not necessary, then more i get done the faster it happens, but it's primarily about mental clarity and action, than needing to do like 12 hour insane days, for the next few months.

The problem is that my current lifestyle seems absolutely terrible for my brain, and I've reached a low point of burnout.

For the last 2-3 years I’ve spent a ridiculous amount of time in my bedroom working, thinking, staring at screens, basically living in one room most of the time.

I live in a big city, but I don’t even think the city is necessarily the problem. It’s more that my actual life is just… bedroom. I might go for a 2 hour walk, go somewhere at night, see somebody occasionally, whatever. It doesn’t seem to compensate for spending most of my existence in the same room.

I wake up and there is no signal to move. No sun hitting me, no urgency, nothing. I can lie there, look at my phone, and somehow half the day passes before my brain really turns on. Tasks feel like an uphill battle. Even if I manage to have a productive work day, I often don’t have the drive left to go train, cook properly, organize my life, etc. I feel very one-dimensional here.

I’ve also burned myself out pretty badly over the last few years and used stimulants for a period, which definitely didn’t help. I’m done with that now and don’t want the answer to productivity to be blasting stimulants just so I can force myself to work, If i had a fresh body the stimulant route would work for my current goal, but I don't have that option right now, body is tired and im burned out. So I can't really take stimulants for 6 months and reach my goal effectively.

Here’s the weird part though.

Every time I’ve gone camping, after like 2-3 days I feel noticeably different.

I feel younger, fresher, more energetic, more content, more natural socially, almost “less autistic” for lack of a better description. When I wake up in a tent, I actually feel like I’ve woken up. Life is so real and I may even have glimpses of wanting to do something.

It’s cold enough that I get dressed. I walk outside to brush my teeth. There’s sun, fresh air, physical movement, some slight discomfort, but it's actually nice. Something is basically telling my body “okay, day started, move.”

And I do.

Then I come home and within a few days I’m slowly back in the same dead state.

So I’ve been thinking… what if I just live outside for a few months?

Not survival camping. Basically stupidly high-end car camping / glamping.

I have a big SUV, a rugged laptop, internet, 2 kWh and 5 kWh batteries, fridge, cooking equipment, water tanks, etc. I’m putting together a kitchen box that basically opens into a ready-to-use kitchen. I could buy a high end inflatable tent and some stuff I'm missing but I have like most of what I need basically, good sleeping setup, portable dishwasher because apparently I’ve lost my mind, and I can fit enough gym equipment in the car to properly train, so maybe.. I wouldn't just blast stimulants at home for 6 months to make my dreams happen, but be an unhealthy dork, I could actually do it in a healthier way, while also gaining weight/muscle.. in theory atleast, when I'm at home I seem to fall into bad habits i eat bad and I don't excercise consistently. It's this like state I get into I don't know I seen to just not really be able to keep various aspects of my life in check. At most I manage 1 thing it seems. But when i go into nature suddenly I come back I clean my place, I take care of all the other things i noted, I actually function properly for a while.

The goal would be to make the logistics extremely smooth. Arrive somewhere, deploy everything quickly, and basically have electricity, internet, good food, proper sleep, workout equipment and almost apartment-level comfort, except I’m actually outside. I'm really trying to make the setup convenient and organised, yes even the gym which is a crazy thing to plan to travel with a tiny gym.

I’d probably stay in each place around 4-10 days. Czechia initially while the weather is good, then potentially move south through Italy/Croatia/Greece as it gets colder.

I’ve thought about just renting a cabin somewhere, but I don’t think it gives me the same thing. In a cabin I can still close the curtains, lie in bed, doomscroll and recreate my current lifestyle with nicer scenery outside. In a tent I’m still forced to interact with the environment a little. I feel the temperature, see the sun, hear everything, physically go outside to do things, and every week or so I can move somewhere new.

What I genuinely don’t know is whether the effect I’m experiencing is real and sustainable, or mostly novelty.

I’ve camped plenty of times, but never lived like this for weeks or months.

Maybe after 2 weeks the novelty disappears and I’m just sitting in a tent with the exact same brain.

Maybe I get lonely.

Maybe moving everything becomes annoying as fuck.

Maybe I spend a bunch of money optimizing this setup and discover that I actually hate living this way.

But I can also imagine waking up, going for a walk/hike, eating properly, training, doing 3-4 focused hours of work, sitting outside, sleeping well, and repeating that for months while slowly moving around Europe. I'd call my friends twice a week, see them here and there depending on whether I'm in czechia or where I'm.

And honestly, if I could maintain even part of the energy I’ve consistently felt while camping, that could be massively valuable to me.

I don’t need more work hours. I need my brain to actually fucking work during the hours I have. I don't need this to be a permanent thing, I just need to do really well for next couple months and thrive like this for a bit.

So I’m curious specifically from people who have actually done this for a meaningful amount of time:

Did living outdoors make you feel more energetic / clear-headed after the initial novelty wore off?

How long did you live like that?

How often did you move camps?

Did the logistics eventually become annoying enough to hurt productivity?

Did solitude become loneliness, or were you fine with relatively little social contact?

Did you actually get more work done?

And if you were in my position and only needed a few really high-quality work hours per day for the next 6 months, would you try it? To be honest i probably just need like 2-3 really good months, I'm stretching it to 6 months because you never know. But yeah I feel so dead in my apartment it's screaming at me that I need to leave.

I know “I’m going camping so I can build my business and make a lot of money” sounds almost like an oxymoron lol.

But I’m increasingly wondering whether what I’m missing isn’t another productivity technique or more discipline. I don't know, I feel stuck, I feel really like.. motivated and I do want to make my projects happen they fascinate me, but the moment I sit at computer it's just.. background stress, resistance, not fun, and I'm just not connected with the goal as much anymore. But I do like thinking about the task, but when it comes to doing it's just painful and it's not enjoyable anymore. Like amybe if my brain worked and I was connected with it maybe it would be different, if i come back from social event and my brain is working I notice I do actually want to work, but that's not a sustainable thing I can't see my friends all the time everyday in my situation. Idk.. it's like my brain needs something to turn it on.. a this point, but my current way of living isn't doing it well anymore. Even a 1-2 h walk won't save me. But anytime i come back from a trip boom i clean and organise the whole place with ease, it's like the resistance is gone. Hard work is hard work but it's rewarding and it's not as impossible anymore.

Maybe I just need to feel awake and alive again.

And so far, camping is one of the few things that has consistently done that. I've never been camping for long periods of time, but hey this will be glamping and comfortable so how bad can it get, I've done winter campings in -10C etc, so I think if there's like a cold day here and there it's not going to be a big deal. I'd get a nice big tent with a porch so I have where to chill atleast if it rains 3 days in a row.

But yeah I can't tell if this is a real plan or fantasy, so I'm curious about your experiences.

Question Google Meet won't work when on Wireguard

Hi,

I'm in China using a Wireguard setup. I connected my Macbook via Ethernet to my GL.inet Slate 7 router (MTU 1200) which is USB tethered to an Iphone SE 3rd generation that uses Nomad eSIM, and Wireguards to my US home. Latency around 300ms.

I had some issues when having a Google Meet with a friend in the US. On Chrome and Edge, my friend cannot see or hear me after I join the meeting, and after a few seconds the meeting ends with message "couldn't start video call because of network error, check firewall settings and try again".

However, it works on Safari (I use Macbook), and we are able to converse. Unfortunately, after awhile (maybe 5 or 10 min?) my friends starts hearing an echo in my voice.

I test it without Wireguard (ie, Iphone SE as a WIFI hotspot and connect my Mac to it), the meeting happens normally on Chrome and Edge. I wonder why.

Does anyone have similar experience and know of a fix?

Thanks

Question Bangkok? Where?

Hey there, I’m planning to go tho Thailand this November. I want to stay in Bangkok some time (looking how it feels).

Can you recommend which city parts are ok to live in? I want to start some days in a hotel to look for a condo. I will stay 6 months in Thailand. I don’t know how long directly in Bangkok for now 😅

Would be also great to get in touch with other travelers.

Trip Report Bali Cellular and Wifi Speeds

I have been spending some time in Bali recently, and I have been checking the speed connection to some parts of the world.

This way, if you need to work remotely or use a VirtualPN to connect to your country you can know what speeds and latencies to expect.

I have been manually doing these tests from multiple locations in Bali to multiple locations in the world, I am sorry if not everyone is represented, I just cannot test to every single part of the planet, still, I hope that you find this useful. I would have loved to have this info before coming to Bali.

Question If your income is $2k to $2.5k a month no location dependent, what cities and countries would you choose to live in?

Assuming it didn’t matter for work where you lived, what is the most amazing place you have lived where this budget works?

Background: I’m a bit of a foodie so good food and fresh fruit is a major plus! I like water sports, sailing, snorkeling, scuba, skiing, backpacking, hiking mountains. I love run clubs and daily social clubs with likeminded outdoor and fitness oriented people 👍

I’m an American 28M if that matters also

Question Could a relationship work with so different lifestyles?

I recently met a guy who lives a very nomadic lifestyle, and we’re really enjoying each other. He travels a lot, likes meeting new people, and enjoys sleeping in different places and not having much of a fixed routine.

He told me that he no longer feels the need to be with different women here and there, which makes me feel better about the relationship side of things. But he definitely still wants the freedom and adventure that come with his lifestyle.

I’m pretty much the opposite. I enjoy traveling and having adventures too, but I also have a more traditional, stable and happy routine. I can absolutely imagine being with him sometimes, traveling together, and enjoying his lifestyle for periods of time. But I can also picture myself at home on a Saturday night while he’s somewhere else in the world doing his thing.

Could this actually work long-term?
Has anyone successfully had a relationship where one person is very nomadic and the other prefers a more stable, rooted lifestyle?

I’m not necessarily worried about the distance itself. I’m more concerned about whether the difference in lifestyle could eventually become emotionally unhealthy or leave one person feeling like they’re not really part of the other person’s life.

Question What's the best weekend trip from your Southeast Asia base that isn't the obvious one?

When you are somewhere for a month or more the famous things get done in the first week and then it's easy to just work and not see anything. Curious what people have found within a couple of hours of the usual bases, Chiang Mai, Canggu, Da Nang, Penang, that turned out to be worth the trip and isn't on every list. Bonus if it's something you needed a local operator for rather than just a scooter.

Tax Did you ever need a tax certificate? If yes, why?

Just curious.

The residency I had recently expired, so I'm in limbo for now. Planning to obtain residency somewhere else, potentially El Salvador. They only issue a tax certificate after 200 consecutive days there, which I'm not sure I can pull off on year one. My understanding is that showing a tax certificate is only necessary in rare cases when you still have strong ties to another country (which I don't). Plus, SV doesn't have a double taxation agreement with most EU countries, so it might be useless in my case.

What's been your experience? What's the country that asked you for a tax certificate (and why), and what was the country (if any) that delivered the tax certificate?
