Dragon Quest V If/when we get another DQV remake, would you like Nera and Debora to get more development before the marriage choice?

Post image

For me, absolutely. DQV is my favorite game, as we know the game heavily pushes you toward Bianca. You have history with her, you actually go on an adventure together before the marriage choice, and the story gives you plenty of reasons to feel attached to her.
Nera, on the other hand, originally felt more like an alternative so the player could technically have a choice. And even in the DS remake, where Debora was added, I still think the other two options could have used a lot more development before you’re asked to choose a wife.
With how popular Nera and Debora have become over the years, I think Square Enix / Yuji Horii would be missing a huge opportunity if a future remake didn’t expand their roles.
I’d love to see the Hero spend more time with each of them before the wedding: maybe different quests, more dialogue, some actual adventuring together, and moments that let you understand why he might fall for each of them. Not changing the main story, just making the choice feel more meaningful and less like “Bianca vs. the other options.”
And yes, I’m absolutely including Debora in this. 😌
What would you prefer? A remake that stays as faithful as possible to the original and mostly adds QoL/visual upgrades, or a more ambitious reimagining that expands the three brides and gives you stronger reasons to choose each one?

Dragon Quest XI Am I the only one who prefers the original DQ 11 over the Definitive edition?

Post image

For context I do in fact have both versions

Call me a graphics fanboy but they look way too good on the OG. Not to mention i didn’t enjoy the filler they added in DQ11 DE

Orchestrated soundtrack is the only aspect that is actually objectively better in DE but even tho this game is my favourite the music has always been mid. It’s not like DQ8 the soundtrack in that game is a masterpiece that should not be tempered with but I feel like when playing DQ11 I always go for the original version

Also another thing that bothers me are the characters following you, I know it’s cool to see the party behind you but in my experience Sylvando is too damn tall, don’t get me wrong I love him to death but while I’m running around trying to sight see especially when he has that tail costume it just blocks 90% of the screen.

General How (non)linear are the Dragon Quest games?

Upvotes

Hey there, newcomer who has only played DQ11. I've been learning Japanese for some years now (DQ11 was one of my first games I played in the language!) and I'm part of a community of learners that regularly runs clubs for books, manga, etc. Increasingly lately we've been adding in videogame clubs and there's a very successful full (main) series Final Fantasy club going.

I've been wanting to properly explore the Dragon Quest games from the beginning so I'm planning to hopefully start up a club of my own to play all of these with a group. Generally the much preferred format is to keep everyone together with prescribed stopping points per week, but I have heard earlier Dragon Quest games might be somewhat open ended in their progression?

Basically, what I want to know is if I play the game a little ahead and try to make a plan for group progression, should I expect a lot of issues in some games? Full linearity obviously helps me a lot which is how much of DQ11 felt. Technically open progression but a pretty clear increasing difficulty order is probably not too much trouble either as long as I can work out the way to tackle it and tell people which way to go to stay together. But if it's fully open I'm worried it'll make it hard on us and I don't want to overly restrict people's playthroughs in a game where some freedom of progression is meant to be part of the fun! It's why, as much as I personally adore SaGa for example and wish I could introduce people to it this way, that whole series is built on every playthrough being so different that it just won't fit in this type of club format. Hoping I can make Dragon Quest work and finally have a really good reason to make myself get into the series for real.

DQM3: The Dark Prince need advice understanding syntheses and levels

Upvotes

I want to make a hunter mech for killing metal slimes, but I'm overwhelmed by the process.

any advice.

I would prefer just to grab a restless armor and a material type monster but I am wondering if I need to level them up first and give them talent points?

DQM3: The Dark Prince Easiest Strong Synthesis

Hi,

I just started out and want to go blind mostly (played Joker 1+2). Yet as I know in these kinds of games, going blind often means making hard to salvage mistakes (like synthesising away the early Metal Slime).

So I want to have ONE Monster where I follow a recipe from online - one I can always rely on as it either heals super well or hits really hard and can still carry a team of random misfits if I should screw the rest of the team up. It does not hurt if it looks funny or cute - in joker 2 it was Shogum for me. (i d prefer something different this time)

What d be your suggestion for that one Monster that can be made quite easily and maybe can even grow into something even greater?

THX

(i dont have DLC)

Dragon Quest VII Am i TikTok-brained or is this whole part of VII a total drag?

This whole section after "God´s" resurrection has been really underwhelming at best, the dungeons are designed to waste your time and im just going through the motions just to get it done

DQM3: The Dark Prince When to synthesize?

Hi,

I played Joker 1+2, but never really thought about this:

When should you synthesize a monster? When it is maxed out - or immediately (at lv 10-12)?

I dont want to make mistakes, yet I dont want to grind forever, so I search for the most effective method.

Dragon Quest VII Opinion on Maribel?

I am at the town that is being attacked by robot monsters. And while she is stuck up and does make snide comments frequently, I actually like having her around. And not sure if she will get sidelined later on but would like her to remain a part of my party. Just wonder if others like her especially those who played further on and if they feel she was treated well and not sidelined later.

Dragon Quest VII (DQ7) I wonder how they decided which islands stayed in Reimagined.

Trying to look for interviews to see if the dev team ever explained the specific reasons for removing the islands they did.

For context, I fully completed DQ7 on the 3DS and currently just finished Vogograd in Reimagined.

I cannot for the life of me, understand why this terrible island stayed while a concept as cool and unique as El Ciclo got cut. It’s driving me crazy because that was one of the only islands I remembered since I defeated the game so long ago 😭

Overall enjoying Reimagined but it rlly doesn’t make sense. Some islands are so clearly worse than others! Do you have an island you would cut to add back another? I could name several…

Dragon Quest III A surprising challenge run

Post image
21 Upvotes

A few days ago, I was explaining the DQ3 classes to a friend, to which he said "Can you beat Dragon Quest 3 with only bunny girls?" It sounded like a horrible idea, but my curiosity got the best of me. And thus began the quest of Jake the show-off hero with his band of bunny girls, the Drudge Bon, the socialite Bun, and the lone wolf Bin. Other than the first encounter with Robbin' Ood and the Ripper of the Rift in the pyramid, these goobers have managed to tear through the game on the normal difficulty. I wanted to do Draconian Quest, but all it really proved to be was a time sink, because admittedly, there isn't much strategy to this run. Money talks, because all I can do is arm these girls to the teeth and hope for the best. But their surprisingly high stats outside of strength and seemingly endless bags of tricks and tomfoolery has made this run anything but dull. Interestingly enough, their songs and jokes can even distract bosses, buying you turns against even the toughest of encounters.

Dragon Quest XI I fell in love with Serena, but… Spoiler

Post image
177 Upvotes

Whenever I play a game, I tend to really live the story through the eyes of the protagonist. And especially with the Dragon Quest series, I project myself a lot onto the Hero.
That being said, I must confess: I fell in love with Serena.
Yeah, Jade is gorgeous and has those enormous slimes, and I honestly think that if the world hadn’t gone to hell, we probably would’ve ended up married anyway to unite Dundrasil and Heliodor. But beyond the physical attraction, I just never really clicked with her that way.
Serena, on the other hand, was just perfect for me. And especially after everything we went through in Act 2.
Watching her lose Veronica, sharing that tender moment with her at night while she was grieving, seeing her cut her hair and find this strength and fierce determination that had always been somewhere inside her… I fell headlong for her. At that point I genuinely wanted my Luminary to spend the rest of his life with her.
And then came the time travel.
I understand why we did it. I know what was at stake. We saved Veronica, restored countless lives and ultimately got the chance to save the world from so much suffering. Obviously that outweighs one person’s feelings.
But damn, it still hurts.
Because that version of Serena doesn’t exist anymore.
There seem to be little traces and echoes of that lost timeline, but the Serena standing beside me now isn’t quite the same woman I fell in love with. She never experienced that loss. She never had to become that person. She doesn’t remember that night we shared or everything we went through together.
But I, the Luminary, do.
And somehow what makes it even sadder is realizing that I basically did this to her myself. I chose to erase the experiences that shaped her into the woman I loved because saving everyone was more important than my own happiness.
I
I suppose that’s one of the sacrifices a Hero sometimes has to make: putting everyone else’s well-being above his own.
There’s still some story left, so maybe I’ll feel differently by the end. But right now… I’m genuinely mourning a relationship with a woman who technically still exists, except she also kind of doesn’t.
Goddammit, Dragon Quest.

EDIT

Well, judging by some of the comments, apparently “I tend to really live the story through the eyes of the protagonist and project myself onto the Hero” needed a bigger disclaimer 😂
Guys, I promise I’m perfectly aware Serena is fictional. I’m not actually mourning my lost relationship with a collection of polygons.
The whole point of the post was to describe how I experienced the story as the Luminary: getting attached to Serena through everything that happens in Act 2, only to travel back in time and realize that the version of her who went through all of that with him no longer really exists, while he still remembers it.
I just really enjoy letting myself get immersed in RPGs instead of experiencing the story from a distance. That’s part of the fun for me.
But hey, considering some of these reactions, maybe I committed a terrible mistake by role-playing while playing a role-playing game. 😂
