I've been playing drums for about two years, and for most of that time I've practiced around 8/9 hours a week. I really do love drumming and I don't regret the hours i spent behind the kit, but lately I've been wondering if joining a band was the right choice for me at this point in my life.

The biggest problem is that practicing for a band feels very different from practicing because I want to play drums. I have to spend so much time learning and maintaining a repertoire of cover songs that I barely have time to experiment, work on technique, or simply play whatever I feel like playing.

Sometimes the instrument starts to feel like a chore. I know I have to remember these songs for months, and there's always another rehearsal or concert coming up, so I can't really choose what I want to practice.

Some would say that once you learn a song then you're good with it so what's the problem?

I don't know if it's just me or not but I sometimes i actually get worse the more i practice. If I was able to do something in the past that doesn't mean i'm able to do it 1 month later.

Then i just get lost into things I have to fix to actually be a great drummer for the band and not drag it down.

Eventually I just feel overwhelmed and demotivated.

I also have other things I care about a lot, especially studying engineering. I look at my playing and feel like the improvement isn't proportional to the effort I've put in. More practice can fix it, but maybe joining the band wasn't really the right choice for this reason.

The thing is that I'm not tired of drumming but i feel that even if I put thw work i can't get out of this situation.

Has anyone else experienced something similar after joining a band?

A few fellow musicians from our “country community” came together for our first jam session. The goal was actually to simply meet each other and see if we could play something together. It was:

We ended up playing 7 songs! “Jolene” wasn’t even on the setlist, we decided to try it on the spot.
I was quite nervous, but it was so much fun and energizing! 🤠🥁

My band MORDELLO usually puts on a metal and Prog tribute night every Halloween here in Nashville and this year we are playing a lot of rush to honor their return. This stuff has not been easy lol

Hello all.
So I’ve joined a goth covers band (yay, applause, nice one bruva) so I’ve gone from 30/45 minute sets in a old school death metal band to two sets a night about 50/45 minutes each.

Last night was my first “gig” with them as it was a live rehearsal. Everything’s going sound then suddenly 4th song of second set I get a weird feeling in my hip, then it moves to my thigh and calf slowly over the next 7 song.

Not sure if I just needed a touch more space as my posture wasn’t the best causing the cramp or I’m just rather tired from work.

But my question is what do you do to ward off cramp and bothers when playing?

I’ve been teaching for a while but recently moved back to my hometown. I’ve got a few students but I want a lot more.

Is social media (videos and everything, showing teaching ability and general playing level) the best tool for gaining students in this modern world?

I have a setup I could use for remote lessons, and am renting a commercial unit I do all of my teaching from currently.

Going to Nashville, TN for a few days and wanted to check out some drum shops. Any recommendations from anyone who has been to a few there? Best ones? Thnx

I'm trying to sell my Slingerland DuAll but since it's such a rare drum I'm just not sure who to contact for appraisal/purchase. I don't know any vintage drum stores in the Midwest so any recommendations in the US help!

Slowly replacing the stock cymbals on my first accoustic kit and I find myself endlessly browsing cymbals and looking up videos. How did you guys generally found out which cymbals worked best for you?

Did you just buy and play (with the risk of some missbuys), went to shops and tried out a ton of cymbals, bought a full set right off the go or, like me, checked a ton of videos and reviews first?

What's everyone's favourite snare drum shell? I'm curious to see what everyone likes the most.

Personally, I love aluminum the most. It blends nicely with the rest of a drum kit. I also don't find it too loud compared to other shells types.

I’m looking to re-wrap some of my old tama rockstar-dx drums due to some damages. I just wanna do about 3-4 drums, and keep the original color (high gloss white). I’m stuck though on what to order! I seem to only be able to find fance drumwraps while i’m looking for plain like the picture…

It's my understanding that these meinl R&D are unique models and there are no 2 the same.

I bought this simply because the one that I wanted was discontinued. This was the luckiest disappointment of my life and this bad guy is going to be with me for a looooong time

Trying to decide between these 2 Tamas. Black one is a RockStar from late 90’s early 2000’s MIT and the Purple Pearled is an Imperial Star most likely late 70’s maybe early 80’s MIJ. Both missing snares but I have spare ones.
I’m trying to figure out which one to keep. Both kits has 3 toms. Different sizes tho.

i was trying out some heavier sticks…VF American Classic Extreme 5BN. i usually play VF Dave Weckl 5As. i am not sure if i like the way they feel, so please share your recs for heavier sticks.

but also, looking for feedback on my posture/technique overall. i am an old who used to play a lot but gave it up when the kids appeared. recently decided i want to really focus on becoming better. i know my kick beater is “highly active” between beats. but what else do you see in my mechanics?

Hi! I've been drumming for over 20 years and I'm also a drum instructor. I'm very familiar with acoustic drums, but have only just barely dabbled with electronic kits.

I'm going to be moving into a condo situation where I'm not going to have much space and I def can't make much noise. I also have kind of an interesting usecase with work where I need an electronic kit to use with one of my students, and I need something light enough and compact enough that I can carry it with me into work as easily as possible, ideally without having to break it down first. I just wanna fold it up and throw it in the back of my car. I don't believe I'll be gigging with it, but I will use it for home recording/composition work and I need a professional enough setup for that.

After doing some research, I think the Alesis Nitro Max might be a solid candidate for me, being a small frame, lightweight, and having all mesh heads. Primarily, I'll be using it with Logic Pro and sound libraries, so I don't really care about the quality of the onboard sounds.

My concern is if it will keep up. Does it register hits consistently? Does it have good velocity sensitivity? It seems mostly marketed toward beginner/younger players, so I want to know if it's a good option for more advanced players, too.

What do you think?

Hi community. I was polishing this old Tama Swingstar and the pitting exposed this brass colored surface. Is it another coat on shell or is the shell made of brass? I searched for brass snares and the only series I found is the starphonic, superstar and some mastercrafts.
