Rant Lowell Neighborhood Needs a Coffee Shop

Upvotes

Maybe I’m the only one that feels this way but Lowell is absolutely one of my favorite neighborhoods in Everett. The one thing it’s missing is a coffee shop or cafe. There are multiple parks, the river walk, cute houses, and an adorable candle shop. I see buildings for rent but they’ve been sitting that way for a while. I would love nothing more than to walk my dog along the river with a fresh cup of coffee from a cafe up the street. It feels like enough people live in the area to make a cafe profitable with foot traffic alone, plus additional business from people going to the dog park. This is me putting it out into the universe aka internet and hoping it happens!

Meetup! Did we meet at Airport Video?

I (cis-woman kinda chubby with tattoos) went to Airport Video in Everett on Sunday afternoon and I told a couple people I would post on here so we could chat.

After I got home, I realized that this really isn't the right sub for this topic... So I'm going to post over on the Seattle R4R sub, meet me there. Much more appropriate.

Sorry everyone else.... Have a good week.

Question Trustworthy Toyota Service Center?

Hey everyone! I’m new to the area and have a new Toyota in need of its first oil change. Since the first 4 service appointments are covered by Toyota (included in the purchase of the vehicle) I need a trustworthy Toyota dealership/service center in the area. Rodland seems questionable based on reviews and has also been flagged for positive review bot activity by Yelp, so it may be even worse than it appears. If you like a dealer close-ish please let me know, thank you!

Got Stuff? I can pick up donations of food and supplies for my neighbors in need!

Hello Neighbors!

Every week, I distribute food and supplies to my neighbors who are in need near 128th and 4th in south Everett.  If you’re cleaning out your house or pantry, or have yard sale leftovers, I can use them!  Here’s what I can use- if it’s not on the list please feel free to ask me if I can use it!  Items in bold are high need.  If I had three wishes, I’d get body wipes, rolling carts, and more storage space. Please feel free to message me with any questions, or if you need any of this stuff!

What I need

  • Storage space!  Got a spare room, garage, shed, attic, basement?  I am in desperate need of space to store and organize donations.  I can’t pay much at all because my entire operating budget is about $1500 a year right now, but I can trade food, supplies, or organizing help!
  • Plastic bags, zip lock bags of any size, twist tie style bags
  • Someone to make baked goods on Sundays or Mondays so I can distribute on Tuesdays.  The laws around baked goods are different, so you could do it out of your home kitchen.  I can contribute flour, pancake mix, and sometimes other stuff.  I also have industrial size baking pans you can use.
  • A commercial kitchen space to cook meals- this is me dreaming big for the future.  I would love to be able to serve hot meals but I can’t do it out of my apartment and I don’t have the budget to rent a certified kitchen.

Food

  • especially things that don’t need refrigeration and can be eaten cold or prepared with no facilities or with just a microwave
  • Canned protein, like chicken, tuna, spam
  • Fruit, canned or fresh
  • food that doesn’t need to be chewed much is great to have, as many of those I distribute to have dental problems
  • Drink mixes, bottled water, bottled or canned drinks, including large sizes
  • Granola bars, jerky, fruit cups, anything single serving and portable for those who live outside
  • I can take out of date food
  • I do not need rice, dry beans, or pancake mix at this time
  • I cannot take anything that needs to be kept frozen or refrigerated

Clothing

  • Coats, jackets, sweaters
  • Hats of any kind including ball caps
  • Gloves, scarves, knit hats
  • Underwear, bras, and socks (used but clean is ok for all of these!)
  • Anything plus size
  • Pajamas and slippers
  • Shoes of all kinds, especially those appropriate for walking in winter, composite toe work boots, non slip shoes approved for working in restaurants, and shoes appropriate for interviews
  • Interview clothes
  • Ponchos and rain coats
  • Shoe inserts
  • I cannot take kids clothes but I can take any adult size
  • Used stuff is ok!  I am always ok with refusing something that’s too worn, and most of the time I’ll take it so it’s always worth checking.

Personal Supplies

  • Soap, shampoo, conditioner, body wash
  • Chapstick, lotion
  • deodorant
  • Makeup, perfume, including samples, nail care supplies, nail polish
  • Hair ties, hair products, brushes, combs, bonnets,
  • First aid supplies, including over the counter medicines, bandaids, gauze, neosporin, antiseptic wipes, cough drops, alcohol prep pads, hand sanitizer.  I do not take cough medicine or bottled isopropyl alcohol.
  • Acne treatments
  • Tooth brushes, toothpaste, floss, floss sticks, mouthwash, denture cleaner
  • Anything related to foot care- shoe and foot powders, corn pads, nail clippers, etc
  • Razors and shaving cream
  • Personal wipes are in very very high demand- imagine going to a job interview without the ability to take a shower
  • sunscreen
  • Pads and tampons (not reusable pads or period panties)
  • Powdered or sample size laundry soap (so I can split it up)
  • Any size is ok, including samples
  • partly used containers are ok for stuff like shampoo, floss sticks, meds, etc

Pet Supplies

  • Food for dogs and cats, wet or dry; opened dry food is ok
  • Leashes, collars, harnesses
  • Booties for dogs
  • Muzzles
  • Toys
  • Bedding

Supplies for living outside

  • Hand warmers
  • Tarps
  • Tents, even if they need some repairs
  • Rolling carts- these are an absolute life saver
  • Blankets (no sheets)
  • New or very gently used and laundered pillows, including decorative
  • Sleeping pads

Other

  • Tarps and plastic sheeting
  • Plastic bags- garbage, shopping, etc
  • Backpacks and bags
  • Suitcases, especially rolling, any luggage
  • Strollers, including pet strollers
  • Anything that rolls and carries stuff
  • Umbrellas
  • Water bottles/storage of any size or kind
  • Small games and entertainment, like packs of cards
  • Cell phone charging cords and blocks
  • Cell phone cases
  • Working cell phones
  • Pens, mechanical pencils, notepads, address books, planners
  • Gift cards to Safeway, Arco, Taco Bell, Taco Time, Macdonalds, Pizza Hut, KFC/A&W, Shell, Denny’s, Chevron, Dairy Queen, Starbucks, or anywhere that sells food and is walkable from 4th and 128th

Question Rubbing the PAE Lucky Statue Stache??

Hey I heard from one of the airport employees while I was flying out through Paine field that rubbing the mustache of the statue out on the drop off curb was good luck?

Has anyone else heard this? I’m just curious where the rumor might’ve started lol. She said that he was considered one of the top pilots for the mail service and that he’ll watch over your flight if you rub the stache.

I just try thought it was funny and was tryna see if anyone else heard this too.

Just got an adorable little guy! I want to keep up on his vaccinations and health checkups and wondering if anyone knows a vet they've had good experiences with. The ones that come up on Google all seem to have good reviews so I was having trouble deciding. Preferably they would be open on weekends. Thanks!

Recommendations Don't boycott small business - Call them out instead.

We need more small businesses; they are the lifeblood of our town. Sometimes they're not great, or they do something stupid. Instead of boycotting them, call them out and try to get them to change. Write reviews and talk about it with your peers.

What are some of your favorite small businesses and why?

Who does skeevy business practices like avoiding taxes?

Who are your least favorite businesses and why?

My three answers are:

Buenos Dias coffee is my favorite local business because they are very nice, always friendly, their prices haven't changed in years and they still do buy x amount, get one free.

My sketchy business is Lidz, formerly known as Kushmart who did some skeevy stuff because they owned too many businesses.

My least favorite business is the Colby Diner because I'm suspicious they had something to do with the Strawberry Patch closing and while it was admittedly a greasy dive, the Strawberry Patch was a local legend and it had good food.

Question What is happening at Harborview Park at 6am?

It is 6:00 a.m. on Sunday and there are literally hundreds upon hundreds of cars and teenagers there and I see giant banners of makeshift suns that many of them are taking pictures with. What kind of crazy event makes teenagers wake up at 6:00 a.m.? Anyone have any idea? They've taken up every single parking spot and have spilled out onto the streets parking alongside the roads in front of houses. They are dangerously running/walking out onto the road without really looking around.

It looks like everyone is having fun and smiling though which is a positive but it's just so weird so early in the morning.

I tried looking it up on an event's calendar or some high school thing but I couldn't find anything. Anyone have any idea what's happening?

Question AFK Tavern Equivalent?

Hey all. I'm looking for a AFK Tavern like place I can sit and vibe, hear people hang out and talk about video games, DnD or something of the like.

I'm hoping for something in Everett, Lynwood or Edmonds that's easy to reach by bus..

Edit: I'm a local Everett girlie who sometimes vibes at Moon Dragon but I am anxious and nervous, I just wanna watch the crowd

Transit Parshall: Everett needs robust bus connections to make light rail succeed

This opinion article authored by the City of Lynnwood's 7th Councilmember David Parshall, who serves on Sound Transit's Board of directors, representing Snohomish County with Mayor Cassie Franklin and Snohomish County Executive Dave Somers, and also serves on Community Transit's Board of Directors as a Large City Representative with Marysville Mayor Jon Nehring and Edmonds 6th Councilmember Susan Paine.

Parshall recounts how exceptional and convenient local bus service has truly made Link successful in his area. He remarks the economical benefits of high frequency, high coverage service in his city. He notes that a consolidated transit system would enable the same for Everett. Here is an excerpt:

The level of bus service needed in Everett is beyond what Everett Transit can provide on its own. The vision for light rail has always been for people to be able to travel easily and quickly all around the Puget Sound region, but not everyone can live near a station. We call light rail from Everett to Tacoma “the spine” but the spine is not enough.

We need the muscle of buses and Zip Shuttles that Community Transit will provide connecting Everett residents to that spine. Everett’s transportation future will be stronger if the city embraces the long-term transit planning that consolidation will provide.

I live in Mukilteo and have 2 Doug Firs worth of firewood I want to sell. They are a mix of logs and split wood that were cut last year. I posted on FB marketplace but got no takers. Any suggestions how I can sell this? I'm willing to make a really good deal but would like to get something for this.
