Weekly Thread: Questions and GWP (Week of August 29, 2026)

Welcome to the Question and Gold World Pass weekly thread! If you have any questions around FFXI at all or wish to request a GWP, this is the place to do so. Scroll down to the comments and ask away.

r/ffxi FAQ

Are you a new or returning player? We have quite the list of Frequently Asked Questions that's pretty comprehensive of the questions most commonly asked around the sub. If your question isn't answered there, feel free to shoot in the comments below.

BG Wiki

BG Wiki is a modern FFXI wiki with up-to-date pages on endgame specifics as well as various guides.

It is currently the only XI wiki with an active staff which are always working with members of the community to address concerns and suggestions. BG seeks to be the main wiki of the community. Consolidating the efforts of everyone into one single wiki is the most productive and effective. We welcome and invite all to join us!

  • A thread can be found on FFXIAH.com in which you can report issues with the wiki and read a getting started FAQ if you wish to contribute! That thread is located here.
  • Anyone wishing to join Team Blue Gartr may join the Discord.

FFXIclopedia

FFXIclopedia is a comprehensive general-purpose wiki for FFXI that typically covers pages for each item/area/BCNM/etc, often for older content. Warning: The site has heavy ads when logged out.

FFXIAH & FFXIDB

FFXIAH is a website showing the Auction House history & current items for sale in-game, as well as a forum community among other things. FFXIDB is a database website showing drop rates of items as well as monster spawns based of player data collected by Guildwork.

Making Friends

There are various ways to make new friends and meet people in FFXI. The first recommendation is to find a Linkshell via Linkshell Concierge NPCs. If you check these NPCs directly after a maintenance, this is typically a good way to find active Linkshells. Another suggestion is to find a community website for your server; many servers have a Facebook group.

Guide What job to use your AF+3 Kupon on

August 2026 Edit: Hey there! Please make sure you read at least the big part of the note below for explanations of the ratings. If you don't, they will seem very off.

Also, the kupon is for a whole set of AF+3. I've been seeing a lot of people thinking it was one piece.

Thread with a collection of info for the event

Seems that numbers, etc are going to end up here. Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions/advice and the lack of angry comments! I hope everyone enjoys their AF+3! Love y'all!

NOTE: AF+4's use in max accuracy, max ranged accuracy and max magic accuracy sets is being ignored in these numbers. In general, you'll eventually want all +4 for jobs that need acc/racc/macc for situations where you need more hit rate (pretty much all casters and DD for WS with added effects as well). If I didn't ignore this, all sets would be 5/5.

★The ratings here are STRICT. They are more on the side of "always/frequently used" pieces★

as a lot of pieces will have a use in macro swaps for certain JA, etc. I am including these "macro pieces" in the rating when they're for JA that are very important (e.g. Berserk, Meditate) and otherwise just listing when they would be used if it is more situational (e.g. Dodge, Shadowbind) if it is unclear.

I am doing this because, again, you could argue that ALL pieces that modify any ability should be included and it would be a 5/5.

This does not mean that a "macro piece" or a piece for a less-used set is not important. I am just trying to provide information that is nuanced enough to make decisions.

.

  • Warrior: 3/5.
  • * Legs and feet for TP, body for WS. The rest are macro pieces (presumably AF+4 full set for sticking various Break WSs)

  • Monk: 1/5.
  • * Feet are BiS (only?) for when Footwork is up. The rest are macro pieces or for specific WS (full AF+4 for sticking Shijin's added effect)

  • White Mage: 4/5.
  • * Cure potency II, regen, enhancing duration

  • Black Mage: 1/5.
  • * Guide says body is BiS for free nuking. The rest gets replaced or are less impactful macro pieces, it seems.

  • Red Mage: 4/5.
  • * Use basically everything and use it very often.

  • Thief: 1/5.
  • * Head for WSD. Body if you don't need defenses (you almost always do).

  • Paladin: 2/5.
  • * Guide makes it sound like a lot of them are just macro pieces.

  • Dark Knight: 2/5.
  • * WSD body, TP legs.

  • Beastmaster: 2-3/5.
  • * Body and hands mostly, with legs a niche pick for +killer.

  • Bard: 3-4/5.
  • * Lots of BiS pieces for Lullaby (and macc). Feet for song duration are very important.

  • Ranger: 3-4/5.
  • * Hands are needed for barrage. Head for WSD.

  • Samurai: 2-3/5.
  • * Hands for when you need more Hasso. Legs for WS. Head for Meditate. Needs all +4 for WS added effects (specifically Ageha).

  • Ninja: 1/5.
  • * Head for SB, all +4 for Enfeebles.

  • Dragoon: 2/5.
  • * Body and hands for Jumps/TP.

  • Summoner: 2-3/5.
  • * Physical ACC BPs (Body, Hands > Feet), can use empy feet instead just fine.

  • Blue Mage: 2(3)/5.
  • * Body for WSD. Hands if you're learning spells, but usually not worth going all the way to +3/4. Legs are good for early spell interruption rate down (SIRD).

  • Corsair: 1(2)/5.
  • * Other than WSD piece, other pieces are used for ranged (or just Quick Draw).

  • Puppetmaster: 2-3/5.
  • * Hands for Overload, Feet (and body if min-maxing) for Repair. Other pieces are situational.

  • Dancer: 2-3/5.
  • * WSD piece, other things are good macro pieces (Waltz set, Samba set, etc). Head for DW in situations where you need to adjust your DW.

  • Scholar: 4-5/5.
  • * You'll use basically all of it and often, like RDM.

  • Geomancer: 3/5.
  • * Body and hands mostly. Legs are BiS for fast cast. Note: GEO and RUN get their gear at reforged levels already, so this is not as great of a saver of money (still about 90~95% of the cost is saved).

  • Rune Fencer: 3/5.
  • * Body is a great tanking piece. Head and hands are also used in other sets (fast cast, etc). Note: GEO and RUN get their gear at reforged levels already, so this is not as great of a saver of money (still about 90~95% of the cost is saved).

I have bought Shantotto II and Qultada. Are any of the weapons worth it for style? I’m a RDM if that matters.

Anything you would need for possible end game content?

Thanks!

Windower Crash when plugging in controller?

Super weird issue here... i recently moved, so i took a temporary break from ffxi.. coming back, i have had a migraine trying to figure out why my game was crashing immediately when booting up, after trial and error of running through the lists... i've finally figured out its my controller, as soon as i unhook it i can boot up through windower and play just fine on KB&M, as soon as i turn my controller on the game insta crashes. This does not happen through the vanilla POL launcher, just Windower. Im super confused, i've tried changing/uninstalling/reinstalling/disabling all forms of XiInput/Directinput etc. this is super annoying, since i rely on SwitchMon + Controller to multibox lol... anyone have a fix?

Here are two illustrations of Bards. The first one was done pretty early in my illustration journey, and the second one is also pretty old. Looking at them now, I can definitely see a lot of things I would change or improve, but for now, I'm going to leave them as they are. When the time comes, I'd like to make a third rendition of a Bard and see how much I've improved since these two.

I really enjoyed playing Bard in FFXI, especially during the Abyssea days. I particularly loved being a Bard/White Mage. Funny enough, whenever I return to the game every once in a while, there are always people trying to tell me how to play it. They couldn't believe I would sometimes pull with sub White Mage, but back then you could actually pull with Dia—or at least you used to be able to. I'm not even sure if that's still possible nowadays.

i played bard during the 75 era and after.

What I really loved about Bard during the Abyssea era was how ridiculous the parties could become. My friends and I would always joke, "Give me the crack!" I'd run around buffing everyone, casting Haste, and using Marches to increase their attack speed. Once those songs were up, everyone would start moving and attacking so ridiculously fast. It was hilarious, especially during those crazy Worm parties.

i think there was a big one that would always spawn miga mikey or something like that.

Final Fantasy XIV Bard feels more like a Ranger-type job. That always bothered me a little because, in my opinion, a Bard is supposed to be a sort of lazy bum. He's supposed to stand around playing music and singing songs—not necessarily trying very hard to do anything himself. 😂

And that's exactly what I loved about the job.(sometimes you could get lucky with a no pull party)

People loved you, and you barely had to do any actual work. It was fucking amazing.

Of course, there were times when you actually had to pull, and believe it or not, there were even situations where I ended up essentially main-healing as a Bard. I know that sounds completely ridiculous, but that's part of what made FFXI so much fun. You could sometimes do things that weren't necessarily considered the "meta," but if you knew what you were doing and your party was having fun, it worked.

Nowadays, people can get so caught up in playing everything the "correct" way. They want the Bard to pull, they want you to do things a certain way, and they want everyone following the optimal strategy. But that's not really how I think Final Fantasy XI should be experienced. To me, the whole point is to live out the fantasy of whatever job you're playing and find your own way of having fun with it.

And honestly, that's important. The most important thing isn't always playing perfectly or following the meta. It's whether you're actually enjoying the game. Your mental health and having a good time should matter more than whether you're playing your job exactly the way someone else thinks you should.

I even managed to get the Bard hat(the banana hat thing) back then, along with that blue chest piece that made your songs cast faster. and that ring that -25 your songs. i was rocking, and rocking fast. I loved that gear. Bard was such a fun job.

There was also that harp that could play four songs, which I really wanted. Unfortunately, by the time i set my eyes on acquiring it, I was already starting to transition away from Final Fantasy XI, so I never really got to enjoy it the way I wanted to.

But looking back, Bard is still one of those jobs that brings back a lot of great memories for me. It was a weird, goofy, incredibly useful job that could make an entire party feel unstoppable—and somehow you could get away with being the laziest person in the party while everyone else did the actual work.

That's exactly why I loved it.

what do u think?

Question Crafted Items Issues

So as I am slowly progressing into the... early-mid-game? Not sure what it's called. I'm starting my Artifact Armor quests for a couple of my jobs, and yes I know what the default answer will most likely be which is "don't bother they will be replaced quickly" and I totally get that, but this is all new to me and I love collecting these armor sets even if they are useless in the end. They are like little mini adventures! Good for leveling to as well, it's been a blast.

Except for one smaaaaall ever so crucial but debilitating problem... so far many of these require crafted items from players. It's probably the fact that I'm on a low pop server (Fenrir) But getting some of these items just isn't happening. Is there any way around this besides ignoring the armor entirely? I don't wanna be roadblocked by the fact that I can't find some lumber or something, and also do not want to spend months leveling crafting skills just for this. Hell it took me weeks to get cooking to 28 so I could make some HQ Carrot Broth for my beastmaster and he's already outleveled that poor bunny! (there are next to NO broths below 99 on my AH)

I check the AH frequently, but some of these items haven't been sold in months. Did I get unlucky with my first 2 jobs I've chosen to get the armor for (Beastmaster and Summoner) as both required crated items, or are they all like this?

Media "BROTHERS" FFXI Art by Tetsuya Nomura (edited and raw scans)

The only images of this Nomura artwork I could find were either pixelated or photographed under awkward lighting conditions, so I bought this postcard from the Square Enix store for the sole purpose of scanning and making a higher-res* version available online.

Since the raw scan (pic 2) is quite dull, I referenced the other versions to edit it and achieve the colors in pic 1 here. Feel free to try your hand at it if my interpretation isn't to your liking.

*As high-res as my average printer could make it, at least. It'd be nice if Squeenix released this artwork officially; maybe they did and I missed it somewhere...

Guide Friendly Reminder: Last Vanabout Dailies, Campaigns Starting Back Up

Campaigns are back up 3 hours from this post now.

You can again get another set of bonus Dark Matter augments as a Day "0" if you do it between 3 hours and 10 hours from now and the reset. They'll then be available again with the reset.

Also, your last set of Vanabout Dailies are with the reset in 1.5 hours as of this edit.

You have about a week to get your rewards, but don't wait until the last minute and forget. Suggestions on what to get are in the thread linked above.

FFXI REFRESHERS

Post image
136 Upvotes

One time I set up a standard exp party with me(the WHM), a SMN, and a RDM.

The RDM wasn't too pleased and bounced.

But I said he could DD and fight with the other melee if he wanted to.

I guess I got too greedy, and he felt too guilty, though admittedly he was magic bursting pretty good.

The thing is, their powers overlap!

Here they are arguing who's better at refreshing.

This is part of a bigger image I'm currently working on which encompasses a charbydis battle.

These three alone took me about 4 ~5 days to make. The entire illustration has been in the works for months.

I think I will take a small break from ffxi illustrating after this post.

My focus is going to fixing the coloring and appeal of my current stash

I will return to animating and making oc content.

I will still post FFXI art,

but relating to FF11; it will be of some reposts of my older stuff tweaked and/or fixed.

Most importantly, for my party leaders, who are you grabbing? SMN, RDM, or both?

AND Y?

Technical Error 3001 upon entering another area after logging in

Hello, my friend has downloaded the trial and is able to log in and walk around (they are using windower) and when they zone into another area, they get error 3001 almost instantly and disconnect.

Upon managing to login again (after having to wait for the character to disconnect), they are in the zone, so the zone itself is loading fine. Whenever they enter another zone, bam 3001 disconnected.

Not quite sure what the issue is since its odd that the first zone is loading but subsequent areas cause the game to boot them out.

Login, Windurst Woods, walk into Windurst Port, DC.

Login, Windurst Port, walk into Windurst Waters, DC.

That's what its looking like right now. Any suggestions?

Question Which Vana'Bout rewards should I take?

Hi everyone, I'm wondering if I could get some advice as to which VB rewards I should take.

I currently have SMN, NIN, PUP and DRK at 99. SMN has a mix of AF+1 and Abjuration gear, while the rest have +1/2 Ambu armour and Kaja Weapons. SMN has 68 JP and the rest are sub 10. I am very new to endgame, and am gradually unlocking everything.

Gold Tier seems fairly straightforward with the AF+3 Kupon, but I'm struggling with the other two tiers.

Silver I'm kind of leaning towards the Ambu Kupon, because it seems to give the mats to max a category for the JSE Cape.

Limit has me torn between the Job Points and the 4 Old Case +1s.

JP would let me put a job straight to SU2, and would be pretty nice for my PUP and SMN imo.

Old Case is a gamble, but the earrings on the right job could be really good.

Is there anything I've failed to consider at either tier, or is there any advice regarding what would be best to go for?

Discussion Did the PS2 version of FFXI sound different from PC due to sequenced audio samples instead of streaming sound files?

Was reading about FF12 OST arranger and was wondering why it sounded different from in-game: https://www.squareenixmusic.com/composers/kawamori/index.shtml

In Kawamori's most challenging work to date, he implemented the Final Fantasy XII's score throughout 2005. Hitoshi Sakimoto had created a texturally thick symphonic score for the game, with the expectation that it would be streamed, but the hardware limitations of the PlayStation 2 meant the score needed to be sequenced instead. Kawamori was required to massively downgrade instrumental samples so they utilised 2 MB of space as opposed to the original several GB, and extensively cut and arrange parts so that a maximum of around 25 channels were utilised instead of Sakimoto's preferred 160. Almost all of the hundred tracks featured in the soundtrack were recorded on samplers at Hitoshi Sakimoto's home studio; in order to attain a rich and often aggressive symphonic sound, Kawamori used Opcode's Vision sequencer, Samplitude 7.0, and GigaStudio in conjunction with numerous libraries, such as the Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra and Sonic Implants' Symphonic Strings Collection. While Sakimoto admitted that Kawamori's task was unreasonable, the final effort was still impressive.

Did FFXI on PS2 do the same thing in order to save RAM?

It's been well over a decade, so my memory is probably off. But I kinda vaguely remember the PS2 sound effects like weaponskills, footsteps, voices (especially the synthesized bard singing voices lol), and magic effects sounding different from PC?

Also the I kinda remember the PS2 not bugging out as much with disappearing sound effects like the PC version? IDK. Anybody else with better memory lol?

Can't remember if music sounded different though.

Vanabout AF+3 Voucher

I'm sure this has been asked a lot but I'm stuck trying to device what job to use this for. i have DRG SAM THF and RDM to level 99. THF and RDM have junk gear, my drg and sam have ambu+1 gear.

I've been looking through gear guides and haven't been able to determine what the better choice is, I'm leaning towards RDM since i only use thf for farming and that doesn't really require and AF that high and DRG and SAM already have decent gear for early max level stuff.

I made an EP inspired by my years playing FFXI — Excellence

Hey everyone,

FFXI has been a huge part of my life, and one of the things that has always stayed with me is the music and atmosphere of Vana’diel.

After stepping back from streaming and getting deeper into music production, I decided to take some of that inspiration and put it into my own project.

The result is my EP Excellence, released under daNpwr.

It’s not a remake of the FFXI soundtrack — these are original tracks — but I wanted them to have that same kind of feeling I love about Final Fantasy: adventure, battles, emotion, overcoming impossible odds, and those moments where the music makes the entire experience feel bigger.

I’d really love to hear what other FFXI players think.

🎧 Excellence – daNpwr
https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_ndzk50fzgUXDl4uZWtqT0r3vgSWx_op9Q&si=j6X0pKVr9WdYZmrd

If you listen to it, tell me which track gives you the strongest FFXI/JRPG feeling — and what zone, battle, mission, or memory it reminds you of.

Thanks for listening, and thanks to this community for keeping Vana’diel alive all these years. ⚔️

Technical Game Won't Let Me Play

So I could have a maximum of 16 characters and I love to alt in various games, so I decided to get all 16.

The game then told me I couldn't have more than 8 assigned to my account, so I created a secondary profile to link the rest. Thing is, it won't display the other 8 characters and now I'm stuck in an endless loop of just trying to get into the game. As a new player, this is extremely frustrating as I can't even get into the game to play. I don't even know how to get the others to a third account. The error I keep getting is telling me some content IDs are not linked and therefore the game won't let me in.

Quick questions on TH (Treasure Hunter)

  1. If I sub /THF at 99, is my base TH level at TH2?

  2. If I equip my Perfect Lucky Egg, is my base TH at TH3?

  3. TH “proccing” only happens with THF main, right? If so, if I make a 99 THF and just lazy throw on Nyame gear and a Kaja knife, I can proc above the TH3 from traits, right?

  4. Is Trust TH limited to TH1 always?
