Discussion Ubisoft dropping Linux is stupid
It’s just going to fracture our already scattered community. People been playing on Linux devices are going to lose access to For Honor.
They aren’t even able to get a refund, they have to buy a new device or replace their OS system. Fucking classic Ubisoft.
Anyways here’s a photo of my old man Beserker. I’m on PlayStation, but my heart goes out to the people trying to escape Windows.

I think Ubisoft is one of the most successful companies in the world. Every game they made gave me the best moments of my childhood. Disabling Linux is because of cheaters. I’m 100% sure that after Linux support ends, the number of cheaters will decrease. The problem is that those who spent $500 on cheats are now angry because they won’t be able to use them anymore

We’ll all see this together. I’ve seen many game companies take action against cheaters this yearlike LoL and Marvel Rivals. Now For Honor is doing the same, blocking players who are known to cheat using Linux. How is that a bad thing?

Linux isn’t even the biggest issue here, they shouldn’t be exclusively punished.

Why would I use cheats? Why would I ever use linux if Windows exists?
If I were a cheater I would be cheating in other games. Playong for honor is for degenerates, imagine how low u must be to cheat in this shit aah game

Yes.
There is no native Linux client. They are removing the lighter version of EAC that allows proton to run.

They should drop EAC. Epic is not going to make it easier for SteamOS users.

If full support isn't possible, I hope they at least let us play casual modes while locking Linux out of ranked matchmaking

I think the only way to really report this issue directly to Ubi is to be a pro player or be friends with one. I heard they’re in contact with the dev team for balance purposes.
FYI This isn’t based on fact. It’s just something I heard, I could be wrong.

They do send feedback to them.

Not to try to defend Ubi removing access to people who paid for the game as such, but I want to point out that cheating has been a pretty consistent (albeit not terribly widespread) problem for the game for at least 8 years. And complaints about it have been present for an equal amount of time.
Ubi is clearly making the choice to reduce the number of complaints regarding cheating,* and the tradeoff is that they will get more complaints about people being forced to play on Windows.
* This of course depends on how well the anticheat works, which has yet to be seen.
And I won't deny that there is something to the claim they perhaps they should have come up with or used an anticheat method that doesn't need kernel-level access so that Linux players wouldn't be excluded. But, for now, it is what it is.

The problem is that a more oppressive anti-cheat won't help. Battlefield 6 have the most intrusive and oppressive anti-cheat on the market, which doesn't have support for Linux, and cheaters are still a big problem for the game. Similar issues with GTA online. So this decision isn't helping. There is no credible defence for removing Linux support.

If Ubisoft manage to solve the cheating problem, something no other major studio has managed to do (even with anti-cheats that literally searches through all of your PC), I'll eat my own shoe. This will have no effect on cheating.

I have seen this point brought up multiple times, and I think that if someone is going to daily drive Linux (especially for a long time) he's not going to switch back / setup a dual boot ONLY for FH. It's simply not worth it. And this is coming from someone with 3000+ hrs.

It's just why? How does this target cheaters? It's like if the PC playerbase had cheaters and so you just removed PC support, you're not addressing the issue at all. Just trimming off players when those same players who cheat will probably just switch to Windows and keep cheating from there instead.
This doesnt addess the problem, it just shifts it elsewhere

I said this on the other thread I saw as well, but; during the Helldivers 2 thing, Steam gave refunds to all of those who bought the game. I have also heard of refunds way outside of 2 hours played/ 2 weeks period if the dev updates the game in a way that prevents it from running on your machine. So if you bought the game, and have been playing on Linux for a bit, it will be worth it to try and request a refund anyways.
Steam is not a fan of developers updating a game and locking out players, especially when that would be anyone playing on SteamOS and SteamDeck.
