is it too soon to say that endfield is past the point of no return? unless they have a major rebrand soon, then I don’t see them going up anytime soon. even with wuwas mess of a launch they were able to bounce back with 2.x/rinascita, but endfield has been stuck in wuling and it clearly has not been working so far from a revenue standpoint
Honestly I feel like Wuwa wouldn't have rebounded as much as it did without its army of ex-genshin CC and disgruntled Hoyo players that were willing to overglaze the game and excuse everything through it's entire 1.x period to keep it's presence in an all time high until it finally managed to take off, which is something Endfield does not have.
(For the record I'm not saying Wuwa did not deserve it after doing a lot of efforts in its 2.0 version, but very high, very invested media presence certainly can help).
As much as I love WuWa, I think their stumbles before 2.0 [2 dry patches, myriad of bugs and an unremarkable story] would've genuinely been unacceptable in this day and age of gacha gaming.
Back then this game was indeed the sole major alternative to GI, other games were rumors and ZZZ was mostly focusing on another market. If this was 2026 when you have titles like EF, NTE and upcoming hitters like SP. This game likely would have not rose the way that it did.
Endfield and Nte pretty much came at this time. Having more content and a much less buggier experience, but having drier reception even when objectively they're more content-packed than Y1 WuWa was.
The story was mid in 1.0 however they nailed the core combat experience that kept players long enough + the reputation of PGR that people thought they could claw themselves out of a ditch.
Also 1.1 was a fairly sizeable region expansion and the story quality immediately jumped up quite a bit.
Endfiled does not nail anything that matters & flip flops too many systems at a medicore to good level without excelling at anything. However the game is optimized to the teeth and is visually stunning, but these two aspects don't carry you to the top alone.
Story did not really get that much better from what I heard, Content seems to be not good enough, the gacha angered many people due to being convoluted, the story although wuwas was bad Endfield 1.0 is worse than that, all the tutorials with the factory is driving people away, arknights players being disappointed
They surely build a loyalish playerbase but they fumbled hard imo mostly because they neither leaned into the tactical aspects arknights players love nor into anything else & the endresult is nothing is standing out.
yeah, i think the main problem with endfield is that they try too hard to appeal to every player, which is good in theory but in practice almost every element of the game is half baked and mediocre
the story is fine. the combat is fine. the exploration is fine. the factory is fine. everything about the entire game is "fine," but it has no real strength or selling point which is really making it struggle against other games who have already defined selling points that they do better than endfield
They got optimization issues, mostly on mobile, that were only dealt with (supposedly) with 3.6 patch.
While some players were noting improvements, my Dimensity 8300 is still powerpointing. And even 1.X maps are suffering what used to be 3.X maps issues.
Of course their base could call us liars even if I had to resort to using low end mods (deviceprofiles and engine files) and still suffer.
