Could we get an I plate instead?

For context my mothers from Scotland I’ve used the Scottish Gaelic equivalent of Gary for some time now but I’ve officially used deed poll to update it something very freeing about using the language of your ancestors

Would someone be able to confirm that 'Air sgàth na uisge' translates to 'because of the rain'?

I am struggling to get my head around dh sounds and the dh'fh construct is just bizzare to me. Other lenited words don't seem so problematic.

Any tips on how to pronounce these two?

What is the dh'fh part concatenated from?

Examples:

"Dh'fhoghnadh e do dhithis" (lyric from tha 'm buntàta mòr)

I just learnt the sentence
"Có mu dheidhinn a bhios i a’ bruidhinn?"
with the translation "WHAT will they be talking about?"

I am confused:
would this not mean "WHO will they be talking about?"
Should "what will they be talking about?" not be translated as
"Dé mu dheidhinn a bhios i a’ bruidhinn?"
?

Anyone learning Gaidhlig and interested in being snail mail penpals? Or proficient in Gaidhlig even. I used to love sending letters when I was learning other languages as a teenager and think it would be great. I'm doing the Ann cùrsa inntrigidh course this year.

I am not familiar with Ri used at the beginning of a sentence. Can someone explain or link to a source that explains?

I'm learning Tàladh Dhòmhnaill Ghuirm, and it repeats the phrase ò nàili bho hì over and over, but I can't figure out what it means. Any help appreciated ☺️

I’m a 19 year old guy and even though I love our music that sounds more folksong-ish, I wish we had something like Kneecap or at least some good bands with rock/alternative music. I like music like Kneecap but also like Fontaines DC or Deftones.. Does anyone know any good songs or music artists and bands I could give a listen?

Hello! I hope everyone is going well.

I have been wanting to learn Scottish Gaelic for some time, my grandmother was fluent (or claims she was) but refused to teach any of her children or grandchildren. I’m not sure why but she would always just get very upset if we asked for her to teach us or asked her to speak it, but some times you could hear her talking to herself when she thought she was alone in what I’m assuming was Scottish Gaelic as she knew no other languages. Anyway she passed away recently and I have decided I want to learn maybe in honour of her or a bit of spite that she wouldn’t teach us, I’m not sure grief is weird.

Does anyone have any classes, resources, or recommendations of where to start and how to build a solid foundation. I included my Country and state so if anyone had some online courses or communities to recommend they would know if I’m actually able to do them or not.

I am curious to know, at what point can you consider yourself to have transitioned from A0 to A1, or A1 to A2 etc. Is this measured in hours or milestones? How do you know when to transition to the next level of course?

For context, I have just finished the 13 SpeakGaelic A1 podcasts (listening to each one several times per week before moving to the next), and on chapter 3 of the "Gaelic in 12 weeks" book (although it has taken me about 12 weeks to get this far.)

Can I consider starting the A2 course or do I need to spend another 12 weeks on A1 content?

quick question:

does anyone know the difference between aithris and aithisg; both translate as "report", but they seem to have quite different meanings (which I cannot put my finger on)...
