Pampas grass. I hate it. It's native to South America, but it's also become a particularly invasive species on roadsides and riversides all throughout the world. Sometimes I'll load into a round in a random country and bam - pampas grass. Very annoying!

But also sometimes it's not pampas grass, so here's the challenge (aside from the usual geo-location). Pampas or not Pampas?

You might also learn a thing or two about where to find grass, but usually every round will have other location indicators if you don't want to look at the grass.

Already time for the third week of pre-season. This time with the largest zone of them all: World!

Here are the rules for Season 12 (not a lot has changed to the previous season)

The deadline for every already signed up person is the Monday the 7th of September at 5pm CEST. Since it is the World Cup week, I'll be very generous with extensions. Let me know when you can play if you don't manage until Monday.

Please read through this next segment carefully:

• The deadline to sign up for previous players as well as newcomers is on the 6th of September!
• People who join after the start of this pre-season will have individual deadlines for the pre-season seeds that will be played until the sign-up phase is over!
• So to avoid spoilers it is strictly forbidden to discuss the seeds before I allow it. It is also strictly forbidden to stream or upload the seeds to youtube. Violations of this rule might result in a yellow card for the regular season, depending on the circumstances.
• There will not be a public pre-season spreadsheet like the previous seasons until the sign-up period is over for this exact reason. But if you want to know your position on the leaderboard you can DM me on here or on Discord.
• Returning players may also play through the seeds at any given time, discussing the seeds as well as streaming or uploading the content to YT before it is allowed will also result in consequences up to a yellow card, depending on the circumstances.

How do established players re-sign up?

Just as in previous seasons, please leave a comment below this post, or send me a private message on Reddit or Discord (paschtetli) that you're in again. 

Reddit League NXT players:

You can sign up in like other established players but go through pre-season again to try to join D5 instead.

How do newcomers sign up?

Newcomers are able to sign-up by leaving a comment below this post or via DM on Discord with their Geoguessr Name, their home country and a link to their GG-profile. Please be aware, that only sign-ups from players that have played at least 250 regular games with an account age of at least 6 months can be accepted. I will reply to every sign-up with either a confirmation or a reason why the sign-up can't be accepted. If I don't reply, please try again or try a different way of reaching me.

The sign-up period ends on the 6th of September at 17:00 CEST.

If you sign up after the pre-season has already started, you will of course be allowed to play all the seeds of the past weeks you missed. Similar that if you aren't able to play the first seeds within the deadlines due to summer holidays/vacation, especially around the world cup week, please talk to me, we can find a solution. But only if you tell me before.

An important note to all newcomers who want to sign-up: Please be aware that participating in the Reddit League can be very time consuming. Season 12 will approximately be lasting at least until January and there will be one leg per week (except for two break weeks). Many participants invest a lot of time and effort in practicing and mid-season quitters are a thorn in the side for everyone. So please only sign up if you are sure that you'll be able to stick to this weekly schedule.

How it works

Each day there will be a set of 3 challenge links, one for each game mode (Move, NM, NMPZ). There will be a world map, region map, and country map. Each day the map and game mode will rotate. Moving modes will be 3 min, NM will be 1 min, and NMPZ will be 30 sec, unless noted otherwise. On the weekend, I will post more unique/challenging maps. For each challenge link, 1st place is worth 5 points, 2nd place is worth 3 points, and 3rd place is worth 1 point. In the case of a tie, the tie will be settled by distance and then time. 5ks will also be tracked separately and are worth 1 point in moving, 3 points in NM, and 5 points in NMPZ. I am finally back from my vacation, so posts are back to normal now. Excited to play on my computer again, as playing on mobile sucks especially when you don't have wifi for a majority of the day.
