For me it's The Tale of the Princess Kaguya. Many Ghibli movies make me cry (for various reasons) but this one really has me crying my eyes out.

Thanks everybody for your help yesterday! It really sped up the research process for me. I now have a list of every book that inspired each Ghibli film (and any relevant sequels) and I can start looking to collect them all! This is a process that's probably going to take years due to my financial restraints, but I'm off to a great start!

So I consider myself a pretty decent movie buff but it's only now, today in fact, that I have finally gotten around to finishing Ponyo and with that every single Ghibli Movie ever made...or so I think.

So the problem is that I have never really been able to find a DEFINITIVE list of what does and does not count as a Ghibli movie. In terms of being made by the studio, or produced by the studio etc. I know there are a lot of sources to check this but not all of them agree with each other on the list and the plethora of random ads/shorts/tv shows the studio has been involved with doesn't make it easy either. But based on the endless hours I sunk into anime land once upon a time, I do have a general idea of which ones count. Anyway after a lot of deliberation like a year ago, the following were the 27 movies I had arrived upon (these are in order of how I also rank them):

Now what was the logic behind these picks? That question you'll have to take up with the me from a year ago. I know off the top of my head that Nausicaä and Cagliostro I had always considered 'adjacent' movies due to the Miyazaki connection, but other than that I have no idea.

NOW on to the main thing, PLEASE TELL ME THERE'S MORE. PLEASE TELL ME I HAVE MISSED COUPLE OF MOVIES BECAUSE THIS CAN'T BE IT. Please no. I NEED more of these movies. There's nothing like these and with Miyazaki maybe being finally retired, and the studio also not having a clear direction/hier anymore from what I have read, the only hope I have is to either have missed some obvious movie or find more 'adjacent' movies like Nausicaä and Cagliostro where there's maybe a people connection or something else. So please, I request, give me more beautiful people.

Anyway even if there are no more of these left, it's been an amazing journey to watch all 27. What is yall's favorite?

Edit: Ah just to be clear, I'll even take anything that is maybe made by people who have been involved heavily with the studio and made something with the 'Ghibli Flavour' (don't think I need to explain that to this audience lol) elsewhere.

Hello, r/ghibli sub reddit, I am currently building up my Blu-Ray collection of Ghibli films as well as other films that I love. I noticed the copy of Kiki Delivery Service I have is the Disney distributed version. And everything else I have are the GKIDS distributed movies.

Are there any differences between the two releases? And should I buy a GKIDS sleeve or a new GKIDS Blu-Ray? Let me know what you guys think, thank you.

Room feels so calm with it on the wall

Obviously my parenting influence will not be solely limited to Ghibli films lol. But I would love to hear which Ghibli movies, in your opinion, portray great positive role models or lessons for raising young women so I can view the movies through that lens. I can make some assumptions but I'd love to hear directly from parents who have raised girls, or even just women who could provide insights along the lines of "I wish my dad was like [Ghibli Character X]" and why.

EDIT: thanks for your replies, it seems like the top movie we were suggested is this nifty one titled "Grave of the Fireflies". Haven't seen this one yet, excited to sit down and enjoy the classic Ghibli wholesomeness and cuteness and warmth that this movie will likely provide me

I've made the argument before for including the 1997 version of the Kiki's Delivery Service dub on future releases of that film, even if just as an optional audio track like watching Laputa in English with the Japanese soundtrack, but it does make me think. What other fun features could turn up on future releases? Aside from keeping Phil Hartman's Jiji lines preserved for future generations I'd like to see more languages included on future releases, in the UK you'll get the English and Japanese versions but I think it would interesting to include other languages so I can pick up a copy of Howl's Moving Castle and find out what Das Wandelnde Schloss sounds like without having to steal a copy from Germany (side note I think they should dub Howl's Moving Castle into Welsh, but that's beyond the topic of this conversation). Other older dubs could also be preserved this way. Except for Warriors of the Wind, only argument for preserving that is as a cautionary tale.

I have been watching Ponyo since I was around 5 years old or younger and I have ALWAYS wanted the ramen bowl Ponyo and Sosuke use in the movie it’s so cute and it’s my dream to get one does anybody know where I could buy it? I’ve searched a little bit but I can’t find it I got my first job so I have some spending money!

It’s my friend’s birthday coming up, and something she has always wanted me to do is watch all of the Studio Ghibli movies. We got a hotel for her birthday, and I’m planning on streaming as many of them as we can. I thought it would be really cool to have snacks and foods inspired by each movie while we watch them. If anyone has any suggestions for things I could make, buy, or add to make the experience more special, please let me know!
