Anime! Lord of Mysteries ... Just flashy nothing.

The story telling is pretty much "and then! and then! and then!"
I've gotten 5 episodes in, and read that after the first 3 episodes it would actually get better.

It did not, there's still no content, just quick moving scenes with a bunch of names thrown around, and zero build up for anything.

I think the ideal pacing would've been that the finale of the 3rd episode had been the season finale. To fill in the time the world should've been properly explored, klein should've been properly explored, and the whole system of magic, sequences etc should have been explored.

I still have no idea what a sequence is. The sequence 9 potion was drunk, but then it seems further sequences just has a name, or it's some incantation. Depsite having spent 5 episodes, each 50% longer than normal anime epsidoes, I still have zero clue about anything in the world.

It's really hard to rate this as lowly as it should be, this is like a solid 6.5. The visuals are super highly detailed, and everything looks nice, even the obvious 3d feels quite alright because the details are so high... Yet it has the story telling of a 13 year old.
If it were not for the visuals it'd probably be a solid 4/10 or so. It's baffling how badly the director and whoever made these decisions failed. Taking all that talent and putting it into the hands of a highly incapable decision and direction making team.

Anime! Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You

I decided to watch a new, very short series of Anime just 8 episodes so far . 'Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You'.

Firstly I'm gonna come straight out and say that I hate cigarettes and I find people who smoke are usually incredibly selfish IRL. They'll walk about in large groups of people, say after sporting events, where there are children everywhere and smoke to their heart's content. Smoking is a filthy habit and luckily for all of us smokers are literally a dying breed.

But, let us get back to this quaint little story and my review.

The MC, Sasaki, is an overworked, underappreciated middle management guy working in a sales office for an incompetent boss aand he is used and abused essentially by everyone he works with, whether it's dumping their work on him so that they can take a day off in summer or just not turning up to work work at all so our MC is required to take over the roles of the missing staff. Honestly, I'll never understand Japanese work culture and the kowtowing done to those who treat you like shit just because they're a small rung above you on the corporate ladder.

Anyhow Sasaki, our MC is working hard and making his way home at stupidly late hours each and every night of the week and shopping at a local 24 hour supermarket where a very pretty young cashier, Yamada san, works. She's always pleasant and Sasaki tries to always go to her register when she's on shift as it brightens his day. He's not stalking her or doing anything creepy, in fact Sasaki is so down on himself it's a bit annoying.

Sasaki though is a hardcore smoker and, one night after shopping, he is looking for a place he can duck into for a smoke. So he sneaks in behind the supermarket for a durrie. There he meets Tayama san, a leather jacket wearing, tied up haired, young worker from the same supermarket and they strike up an instant friendship over their shared enjoyment of smoking.

I really liked the dynamic between these two the whole way through the series. Besides the obvious one way bullying from Tayama towards Sasaki which he instantly puts up with die to his life revolving around being treated so poorly. Sasaki is genuine and has no ulterior motives. He's just a kind, considerate guy who has trouble opening up to a much younger and very attractive Tayama. What he doesn't realize is that Tayama is the same girl, Yamada, he is smitten with who works on the register inside the store. Although they have the same face, of course they do, Yamada always does her hair so it is very conservative and she uses a very smiley, customer friendly face at all times while she works behind the register and she looks nothing like the cigarette smoking alter ego Sasaki gets to know so very well. Sasaki has so much on his mind, what with being worked into the ground, at one point believes he has terrible news regarding his lungs and his smoking habit after a workplace health check up. Although to all turns out to be a misreading of his test results, Instead of this being a warning sign for him to change his lifestyle, he keeps on smoking away and drinking every day and working himself almost to death.

There are so many points in this story where Sasaki could've put two and two together or where Tayama could admit her ruse but they both choose to keep this baffling storyline going for unknown reasons.

With Sasaki I genuinely believe he sees these two women as separate individuals. One, a pure and very conservative, hard worker and the other, as a bit of a tear away, a rebel and someone who he often sees sitting behind work wearing very sexy outfits which definitely don't fit the uniform of the workplace.

Of course this change of outfits is all because Tayama is trying to make Sasaki see that she finds him attractive and wants him to see her as a sexually attractive person but he has been treated like such a stupid 'older man' by her that she doesn't see that Sasaki would feel that he is out of her league or possibly not even worthy of her attentions on such a manner. She has done so many things, from calling him names like: a dog, an idiot, silly and 'old man'...not exactly the kind of way to show a man that you think much of him. She's even picked on him for not being up to date with technology.

Even after Sasaki bought Tayama a special gift which she knew would've taken a long time to track down she still berates him and treats him poorly.

She even remembers a moment, well in the past where a man, who was definitely Sasaki, but she cannot be sure, stuck up for her at work while another man was being extremely rude and disrespectful to her in the customer cue. She is close to realizing this but something gets in the way. Sasaki in his sense of awkwardness runs away.

I like this show but the lying, hiding of the truth, of the female MC makes me feel awful for the poor 40 something year old sap Sasaki. He's just an older dude who doesn't expect that a younger woman of 24 years of age would dress differently and play this kind of trick on him. Yamada is in control of this entire thing, this ruse, and she continues to call Sasaki Slo-Sa-ki in disrespect as if he's an idiot for not putting this puzzle together yet she wears clothing and behaves in such completely different ways when playing each female character that Sasaki has no reason to believe they're not different girls who just look a bit similar.

All the while...the only time he really sees either of them is at the end of gruelling days at his office where he is forced to work like a machine. When he is out of work he is a shell of a person just putting one foot in front of the other.

I hope this goes somewhere kinder sooner rather than later and that Yamada decides to be honest with this man she clearly likes a hell of a lot. But I get the feeling this will drag on for another season before any 'reveal'. Even then I wonder whether Sasaki will be able to reconcile the nature of such a betrayal from someone he has become so close with and, all the while, Yamadas other co-workers are aware of her deception of this extremely lovely customer.

For those of you who have watched this show..the 8 episodes so far. What do you think??

Anime! The Frontier Lord with Zero Subjects

Well colour me impressed! I threw this little series on, the first season is 9 episodes so far, and I was happily surprised at what a beautifully animated show it was but it was the depth of the characters which are its greatest feature and the setting is pretty impressive too.

Similar to the Great plains of the American 'West', which of course became the 'Mid-West' after the rest of the country was discovered, Dias, the MC and hero of this Anime is offered a domain by his King for Dias' twenty years of loyal service to his King and country as a Heavy Knight and Axeman.

With his new domain, Dias was supposed to have been gifted large enough riches to build a lavish estate, huge buildings and enough funds to house and import subjects or hire large numbers of staff to keep Dias in a life befitting one who has served his King and country for over two decades. But Dias, our hero is dumped in the middle of this grassy nowhere with nought but his armour and his impressive battle axe and his years of experience and nous. You see the King of his domain is ageing and a young hungry bunch of heirs circle their father's riches, and kingdom, believing themselves all worthy of dividing up this nation or stealing it all for themselves. Good ol' rich entitled folks hey?

Dias is stunned to learn, on the first morning after being left in this vacant and empty grassland, that he shares this space with people who can make themselves invisible to all whom they wish to avoid. Alna, is a 15 year old female warrior of this Onikin tribe. She judges Dias, asking him questions to test his character, and she is shocked to find that he has the heart and mind of a truly honest man. Dias is a man who wishes for no more than to live out the rest of his days in peace and harmony in his new domain. The Onikin can tell the true intentions of a person by the glowing colour of the horn which petrudes from the centre of their forehead. When Diaz speaks only a bright blue, the purest of truth and honesty shines from all who meet him.

Alne takes Dias to meet with the leader of the Onikin and as they approach their settlement Dias is amazed as dozens and dozens of dwellings appear from the grassy plain he had wandered the day before but had seen no sign of life anywhere. The head of the Onikin tribe puts Dias through the same tests as Alna and finds he is true of heart and also a powerful and honest man who is prepared to become friendly with the Onikin as he is, as he says "Now their Lord. He is responsible for their well being and safety."

The rest of the season introduces us to the power struggles going on back East where Dias is originally from and to the other people of the local region outside of Dias' domain. Some are friendly and happy to begin positive relationships and trade. Others are going to become trouble as the time goes on before the old King passes away.

I found this show extremely uplifting and wished for so many more episodes to watch than the 9 so far available. I do hope it is a great success and that many more seasons spring forth so we can watch Dias, Alna their newest subjects and the Onikin flourish within the plains of Dias' domain.

Tell me my Anime friends....what are your feelings on this new offering??

Anime! Demon Lord 2099 completely caught me off guard. It’s easily one of the most refreshing shows I've seen in years.

I honestly had an absolute blast watching *Demon Lord 2099*. To be completely fair, I’ve been feeling a bit burnt out on anime lately. It feels like almost everything dropped after 2021 follows the exact same recycled blueprints—and even when a story is decent, the animation often ends up looking rushed or disappointing.

But this show hits entirely different.

It completely side-steps the exhausting cliches of your regular cookie-cutter isekai, standard high school/workplace romances, or generic ancient demon lord power fantasies. It actually brings something genuinely fresh to the table by blending that cyberpunk aesthetic with fantasy elements.

The production value alone is so worth admiring. The animation is incredibly clean, and I love how much detail went into even the smallest character facial expressions. On top of that, the soundtrack is stellar—both the intro and outro themes are absolute bangers that I never skipped.

What makes it even more special is how perfectly it balances its elements. You get great, funny character interactions mixed with legitimate, well-choreographed action and a genuinely solid plot.
It was 100% worth my time, and I’m so glad I gave it a chance. If you're on the fence about starting it, this is your sign to go watch it!

Kill Blue is so frustrating

I picked up Kill Bill recently, and wow, what's with 2026 animes lately? They're all the, another anime has done it already or that its just a copy/paste of a popular anime.

That Whole Don't Reveal Your True Identity Thing

Its corny and just frustrating because I don't really understand what the consequences would be if that happened because

  1. Will the kids look him up? Shouldn't they have done it by now? SHOULDN'T HAVE THE SCHOOL??

  2. Are his info just out there for them to find?

  3. Why are "high schoolers" thinking that just because one of their own is strange that he's not a kid??? That he's an alien?? Can't a kid be good at everything like that Tenma guy??? Why go through all this trouble to hide his identity??

**Also, couldn't he just have changed his name beforehand and not mention it halfway through the episode....???**

It makes no sense at all!! And it takes away from the whole "i wanna see the mc kick-ass and everyone being surprised about it"

And I don't like that whole, he's an old man who turned into a kid... it would have been better if he was just a kid assassin who fought other kids assassins and who teamed up with the only kid from the same line of work as him who knows mc is also an assassin and then they become kinda friends who fights off bad guy.

But the way Kill Blue went about it is soo frustrating.

Something like the movie Barely Lethal would be sick.

The bad guys are not bad at all

All these guys who come to challenge Ogami always turn out to be bums, and there's no real impact. Ogami just finishes them off so quickly, and they're not even all that

The dub VA for Ogami

I watch my animes in dub, and im always looking forward to new voices or the ones i recognize. A bad dub can ruin an anime for me but if its not on every VA's part, i can forgive it, BUT if the MC's VA is bad, im so sorry, but it ruins it completely for me which can make me drop it all together.

Idk why i kept watching Kill Blue, maybe to see if it'd get more exciting, but the VA for Ogami is SO BAD!! 0/10

Its just a woman forcing her voice to go deep and it shows so much!! Something like Naruto I don't mind because his VA actually sounds like a kid with voice crack but Kill Blue just doesn't work AT ALL!! There's no way they couldn't have found any men with a teenager's voice to voice him

I guess Japanese anime are all about "hide your identity to not get attention" but Korean cartoons are more "show off so the whole world can see" iykyk

Anime of the Day: Scum's Wish

https://asianmoviepulse.com/2018/03/anime-review-scums-wish-2017-masaomi-ando/

💔 Love does not always make people better.

Sometimes it makes them jealous, selfish, obsessive, manipulative and painfully honest.

“Scum’s Wish” explores the uglier side of unrequited love through characters who repeatedly shift between being victims and perpetrators, desperately clinging to people who want somebody else.

No idealized romance. No easy heroes and villains. Just desire, loneliness, rejection and the increasingly destructive things people are willing to do for even the possibility of being loved.

Directed by Masaomi Ando and animated by Studio Lerche, the 12-episode series remains one of anime’s more uncompromising explorations of dysfunctional relationships.

I recently watched Appleseed, and I have to say, it didn't disappoint me. However, what I found during Masamune Shirow’s adaptation was not what I expected. Directed by Kazuyoshi Katayama, this anime, I would say classic was just what I needed. I appreciate anyone who cares to read my thoughts on the film, and any comments would be appreciated.

Anime! Is 'Tomb Raider King' just a rip off of 'Solo Levelling' but with less heart?

I watched the EPS which have dropped for 'Tomb Raider King' and I've got to say that this is a flat out rip off of 'Solo Levelling' but without the character development and growth or even likeable characters. In 'Solo Levelling' Sung Jinwoo is a lowly, crappy dungeon diver, known as 'the world's weakest hunter' who is useless and somehow, in the Double Dungeon', he earns a 'cheat code' in his world because of his selfless sacrifice. He uses the challenges of his past, the problems with his family, his mother's illness and grows slowly to become a formidable challenger to the entire known world of S ranked 'Hunter Heroes'' who've been clearing dungeons and keeping the world safe from the overflow of beasties from the dungeons. Jinwoo shows us his humanity and sacrifice as we follow him through one of the most brutal growths within a hidden 'coded' world, even he doesn't understand yet, behind all of his advancement.

But in 'Tomb Raider King' we are presented with a MC who has fifteen years of knowledge about the world which is about to begin because of a gift from a benevolent 'Crow' spirit. Seo Joo-Heon even sounds like Sung Jinwoo doesn't it?? The similarities don't stop there, our MC in 'Tomb Raider King' looks almost exactly like the developed and buffed Sung Jinwoo of 'Solo Levelling'. The S-Rank Jinwoo and Joo-Heon could be brothers they look so similar. Joo-Heon even has screens which pop up for him which no one else can see just like Jinwoo. IMHO they've stolen all of the plot points of 'Solo Levelling' but left out any of the kindness and humanity.

I can't say I hated 'Tomb Raider King' but it's not got a lot of likeable characters and the MC has set out from the very beginning to exact revenge upon a very wealthy man for whom he used to work and whom he very quickly agitates and forces into a corner. I'm interested to see where this story goes but I have a feeling it won't be as nuanced as 'Solo Levelling' or have the character likeability that 'Solo Levelling' has in spades. I'm hoping for some redeeming qualities to show up at some point. Or, maybe it's just a selfish dash to the finish line for the MC and nothing more. I cannot see this IP lasting very long though. The main idea doesn't have many directions to go.

Any thoughts my Anime friends??

Anime! My review of Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet

Overall: 4 out of 5

Pros:

---I like the initial setup being a kind of waterworld-esque slice-of-life anime. Really interetsing setup.

---Gorgeous backgrounds. Especially the setup of the ship itself

---All the main characters have distinct personalities and bounce off of each other real nicely

---Fucking love Chamber

---The relationship between Ledo and Amy is cute. Kinda reminds me of Full Metal Panic but...softer(?)

---the anime ends nicely and satisfyingly

Cons:

---The second half to last thrid of the anime takes a more "generic anime" approach which while interesting...still gives it more of a generic anime vibe

---Amy kinda takes a backseat as a character and we get more...MUCH more Pinion screentime...Yayyyyyyyyy.....

---Kinda wish we got more Ridget and Bellows screentime
