Statistics Everest - BBC reboot Gladiator performance Score

This scoring model evaluates match outcome, event progression (the tilt), and relative strength disparity.

The Formula

Base Result + Tilt Bonus + Strength Parity Ratio + Speed Bonus

1. Base Result & Tilt Bonus

Pre-Tilt Victory: 15 Points
Post-Tilt Victory: 13 Points
Loss: 0 Points

2. Strength Parity

Added to ensure massive Gladiators aren't over-rewarded for expected blowout wins against much smaller/weaker opponents.

  • Leg Strength Parity:

Contender Squat ÷ Gladiator Squat

  • Weight Proxy Multiplier: When squat specs are missing, body weight ratio is discounted to estimate true relative leg drive

Contender Weight ÷ Gladiator Weight x 0.75

  • Neutral Baseline: 0.60 pts (used when contender data is unavailable)

3. Time Efficiency Bonus

To reward explosive finish speed, winning faster than a 30-second benchmark grants bonus points:

(30 - Game Time) ÷ 20

Score and game time are averages of the number of games played.

Thoughts:-

  • Steel with the blowout 10.3s win!
  • Hammer is underrated in this event. He, along with Sabre and Giant survived the tilt.
  • Will miss seeing Cyclone on this event.

Here are the scores for some of the other events if you're interested. Atlaspheres, Duel, Collision, Edge, Gauntlet, Hang Tough, Powerball, Unleash, Wall.

Stats on 1v1 event counts and interview airtime are also available.

Discussion Re-using the original theme was brilliant, but why change the event music?

Hearing that iconic 90s theme on Saturday night TV gave me instant goosebumps. But I do miss the music that used to accompany the actual events.

The old tracks during things like Hang Tough and the Eliminator added so much atmosphere and tension. The new series looks fantastic, but some of that old-school event music had a completely different feel.

Anyone else think they should bring some of those classic event tracks back?

At the end of the 8th series of UK Gladiators, there was a special episode called 'The Ultimate Gladiator - The Battle of The Giants' in which Hunter was crowned the Ultimate Gladiator. But I wanted to find out if that really was the case, so I recorded the stats from every single episode of the series to answer the question once and for all as to who really was the Ultimate Gladiator!

Some of them feel completely different now compared with their first appearances. Who do you think has made the biggest jump?

Question I actually prefer watching the contenders who aren't obvious favourites

There's something much better about watching someone who nobody expects to win suddenly put in a massive performance. Who's the biggest underdog you've enjoyed watching on Gladiators?

Who wants to see Viper actually winning something that is not just Wall, Hang tough or Collision, for a change!?

I think he has potential on Duel, but I think the producers made it a clear event for him to make throw some tantrums once in a while... Maybe he'd ace Destruction, or something completely new for s4?! 👀

Discussion Which Gladiator is actually the best all-rounder?

For me, it’s Nitro, and I think the argument is stronger than just “he’s the fastest”.

He’s got the speed and agility for things like Unleash and Duel, but he’s also got enough power and athleticism that you can’t just put him in the “speedster” box. His performances in Duel have been particularly impressive, and his movement gives him a massive advantage in events where reactions and explosiveness matter.

That said, Steel and Legend are probably the two I'd put closest to him.

Discussion Hang Tough needs a slight rule tweak, surely?

Is it just me, or can Hang Tough sometimes turn into a bit of a stalemate? The Gladiators can sit back and defend their side, waiting for the contender to come into range. It's obviously smart strategy, but it can make the event feel less dynamic. Would you like to see a rule that forces the Gladiator to advance past the halfway point within, say, 15 seconds?

Discussion If you could face ANY Gladiator in Duel for 30 seconds, who are you picking?

Assuming you want to survive the full 30 seconds without being launched into the foam pit.. who are you stepping onto the podium with? Personally, I'm backing myself to dodge Dynamite for about 4 seconds before getting smashed off the edge.

So one of the contenders for the live tour has been released. Nathan from Series 2.

Any other guesses for who else may take part?

Discussion Is having 20 Gladiators in Series 4 simply too many for the show to handle?

I'm struggling to see how a roster that large works without some people barely appearing.

One of the interesting things about the earlier series was seeing less-established Gladiators get opportunities when the usual lineup wasn't available.

With potentially 20 Gladiators competing for limited event spots, does anyone else worry that some of them could end up getting lost in the rotation?

From Instagram: "my family and my adopted sister" - "the dynamic duo is back".

I love seeing that they're still good friends. Whatever happened on the show thankfully hasn't affected their private lives. I'm so glad they're both among my favorites. They're very different, but I think their characters on the show complemented each other well. Drama between the gladiators doesn't seem to be a problem either.
