Im CB main but im trying to master GS as well. Just to try something new. which techinically is better focus if u have 4x attack and 1 sharp before i pull the trigger on making it a gogma weapon. Also which build and weapon skills matches certain focus. Thanks!
They actually have very similar effective raw. Affinity is better for landing consistent crits (duh), and attack focus crits less frequently but has higher peaks. I’d suggest checking out the GS document in r/MonsterHunterMeta
If you’re going for meta, Affinity. It’s more consistent with crits and helps with managing things way more since the negative crit from attack focus really fucks with set ups unless you got a hyper specific one on hand
For affinity focus set ups I’ve noticed WAY more higher numbers on my TCS compared to my old attack focus set ups which were near identical.
Now granted, my current affinity gs has 25% affinity with the modifiers and what not without any set bonus skills but honestly, it’s super good over all to have! And you don’t gotta max out as much with the set up! Like I can run max might 2 since it gets me up to 80+% affinity without taking into account wex! (I got wex 3 on my set so that should be near 100% with everything going right)
My full set is
Gogma Dragon gs (Affinity focus with 3 attack, 1 affinity, 1 sharpness modifier) (set bonus stuff are Soul of the dark knight + lord soul) (TOOK FOREVER TO GET THE SKILL BONUS!)
The armor is
At Ark helm
AT Nu chest
Bale Gloves
Dosha B coil
Gogma A leggings
This gives access to lords soul, Bale 2 piece, and Dosha 2 piece for HUGE raw boosts as well as over all GS goodness!
I’m currently aiming for a tali with attack boost 3 with either Agitator 1, Burst 1, or Flayer 1 to max out my set since the one TINY issue is I’m missing 1 lvl of agitator for that little extra affinity but mostly the boost to the attack when a monster is mad. If I can get that- OOOO I’ll be set! (This set ‘could’ in theory work with attack focus, HOWEVER! You’ll be under clocking affinity and you’ll need to give up either Flayer or burst deco if you want max might at full to get full Affinity I feel which to me, isn’t too good)
Wex with the set up I’ve got isn’t at all a requirement due to the affinity you get from everything else. Wex just acts as a support to get the affinity to guaranteed 100% on a hit via a weak point or wound. Agitator does that job slightly better with extra since it gives a solid attack buff on top of the affinity boost. If you choose to run this set, all you’ll need is AT Ark helm giving you 3 Wex and that’s it
Easiest to build and all rounder affinity focus, max unga bunga attack focus. IMO affinity if you are looking to craft only 1 weapon.
there is not an ultimate meta set for GS, the only "consensus" is to get a bale/lord souls in your gogma weapon and use any other set you like or matchup dependent.
most seen set should be: Ark y, udra y, bale, dosha, gogma a
but i personally love this one: bale, ark y, bale, bale , ark y.
a lot of regen and 0 elemental alignments
you can, but your build gonna need latent power as a main source of affinity, nothing wrong in that but it has time restrictions to use it, you can use corrupt mantle to proc it at the start of the fight, this is the way to play around this skill
thats the best aproach to this fight, you can go for the dahaad build or the gore build for this fight, but i find using 2 ark y pieces helps a lot for the chip damage, im not at home atm, i'll share some builds to you later.
All attack always. Pair it with weakness exploit5, resentment5, offensive block3, attack 5, shield3/iron wall1, flayer5, partbreaker3. Want to have a special effect on it maybe. Like bale gs, shatter, zoh shia, or laz gs even
Your attacks will crit for 1k sometimes on weakpoints. Wound damage sometimes can hit 2k
Focus and Crit Boost are the main two weapon skills; then I personally like to take a Guard Up/Guard gem for comfort.
For the meta builds, check out the pinned thread on r/MonsterHunterMeta. It'll have a breakdown of meta sets per Title Update so you get a feel for progression.
Do note, the meta sets are nearly always 100% damage focused, I'd sub out some skills for preference if you're unsure on your ability to not get hit.
Actually with affinity focus you can have space to be able to slip on things like Flayer and burst allowing for even better raw in some cases then most attack focus builds without sacrificing all that much. In fact for my set I gave up a max might since I’m overlocking on affinity if I had it (that and I didn’t have the technical space for a third lvl anyway) so I used my spare 3 slot for Flayer and my dps racked up higher then my old attack focus builds I had.
Please post your average dps my guy. There’s a huge difference between having affinity skills vs having high affinity up time. You can make up the missing “30”raw with agi 5 and burst 1 by going affinity on your weapon!
