Pierre was from Haiti attending school in Springfield Ohio. He was made fun of for wearing an ankle monitor.. and here at the same school district!!! A Teacher wearing a fake ankle monitor for dress like a student day! This white woman teaches in the same school district Pierre attended before committing suicide. Start with the schools!!!!! The Facebook poster said the Teachers is Celieta Ohlinger. Guess this isn’t the first time it has been brought to the schools attention and they’ve done nothing!!!

Greetings my Haitian family.

I'm a Ghanaian living in Accra who loves Hatian food, culture and history. In the absence of visiting Ayiti I made an effort to go to Fort de Joux in France where Toussaint Louveture was held captive. Black people owe Haiti a lot, I wish more people on the continent knew the significance of Haiti for black people and humanity in general.

I joined this sub a few months ago and it's really disheartening reading most of the stories coming out of Haiti. I can't imagine how y'all are feeling.

Is there anything we on the continent can do to help other than offering our thoughts and praters? What do you wish we would do or say to help? Are there things we are currently doing that's not helping?

Do any of you feel hope for the future? If yes, what makes you hopeful?

20 year old Pierre Damas Bel took his life today. He was one of the first to have a picture of his ankle with the monitor placed on him that was circulating around. He had the ankle monitor on for approximately 2 months. He had just gotten into College. No criminal history. Just a young man wanting to seek a better life.

I love being Haitian (Pic in the comment section), I'm proud of my culture. But existing as a Haitian who looks completely white is an exhausting experience, especially when people make crazy assumptions before even getting to know me.

My family roots run super deep back home. My parents and grandparents were all born in Haiti, my great grandmother was 100% Black Haitian, and my Italian great grandfather spent almost his entire life living in Haiti too. Our family home was right in CV, so that's where I stayed whenever I was back in Haiti. I spent endless time there and stay deeply connected to everything going on back home. We weren't rich and we weren't broke either, just normal regular people living our lives. Now back home in Haiti, this kind of stuff almost never happens to me, but over here in the US, especially around non Haitians and the diaspora, non Haitians always hit me with the instant nonsense that I don't look Haitian at all. And around my own people, it's a total hit or miss. About 60% of the time, people are super welcoming and happy to connect. But the other 40% make things ridiculously uncomfortable, some people even try accusing me of coming from corrupt elites or stealing money from the country... (mwen 🤦🏻‍♂️????) Dessalines whole vision was about uniting everyone who belongs to the Haitian family under one identity to crush color division. I carry Haitian blood. In fact under Haitian law, if your father or mother is Haitian, you are automatically Haitian by origin (jus sanguinis / right of blood), no matter where in the world you were born.

After we shared the story of Jay Dabelus, the professional boxer recently deported from the United States to Haiti, so many of you had questions, but many of you also left messages of encouragement, concern, prayers and support. 🙏🏾❤️

He personally reached out to our media page and wanted to send a message directly to everyone who has been following his story and asking about him.

For those just learning about Jay, he says he was born in The Bahamas, came to Florida around age 6 and spent more than 20 years in the United States, where he grew up and built his boxing career. He says he had never lived in Haiti and has no family or established support system there.

After arriving in Cap-Haïtien on Thursday following his deportation, his story quickly gained attention, and many of you wanted to know how he was doing and what would happen to him next.

À l’approche des élections de fin 2026, beaucoup de discussions vont naturellement porter sur la sécurité, l’économie, l’emploi, l’éducation, les infrastructures et la gouvernance.

Mais il y a une question que nous devrions peut-être poser davantage :

Quelle place la technologie doit-elle occuper dans la construction de la prochaine Haïti ?

Pas la technologie comme gadget. Pas simplement « avoir plus d’ordinateurs » ou lancer quelques applications. Je parle de digitaliser réellement le fonctionnement du pays. Une administration capable de fournir des services en ligne.

Des écoles qui enseignent réellement les compétences numériques et pas seulement l’informatique comme matière secondaire. Des entreprises capables d'utiliser des outils numériques pour produire davantage et atteindre de nouveaux marchés. Des systèmes de santé capables de mieux gérer les données et les dossiers.

Une agriculture qui peut bénéficier des données, de l'automatisation et de l'IA. Des systèmes permettant de suivre les dépenses publiques et de renforcer la transparence.

Des jeunes qui peuvent créer des entreprises technologiques depuis Haïti et travailler pour le marché haïtien comme pour le marché international.

Et surtout, une population qui comprend la technologie et peut participer à sa construction, au lieu de rester uniquement consommatrice des solutions développées ailleurs.

La technologie ne va évidemment pas résoudre à elle seule les problèmes d'Haïti. Mais je pense qu'il serait dangereux de construire la « nouvelle Haïti » en considérant la transformation numérique comme une question secondaire.

Si nous parlons aujourd'hui de ce que nous voulons voir après les élections de 2026, pourquoi ne pas inclure une véritable vision technologique dans cette discussion ?

Qu'est-ce que vous aimeriez voir changer technologiquement en Haïti au cours des 5 à 10 prochaines années ?

Et surtout :

Quel serait, selon vous, le premier problème que la technologie devrait aider à résoudre ?

I recently saw video where they spoke about immigrant parents having this issue. The lady claimed it was due to scarcity mindset….other ethnicities In the comments were agreeing with her.

Instead of having a yard sale or throwing it away, they store it inside the garage or place it in a corner. My house was always clean but it was just the interior decor that bothered me. Now that i live alone, i prefer my living space to look “empty “ with minimalist decor.
