Non-fictional I HATE these "gotcha arguments"

Post image

"Ohhh, look how I tricked this dumb dumb baby in my trap so now I am right and they are wrong. I'm so smaaart even though it does not adress the actual argument and adds nothing to the debate. They teach arabic numerals in school btw."

And these type of comments always get tons of likes

U guys remember when this sub was for passionately hating random shit like dasani water or sporks or some video game monster instead of nothing but political vent posting ?

u/Charibdysss 9h ago

that's the state of any subreddit that even talk the slightest about any political-related discourses tbh.
Take one or two posts to turn a whole subreddit into yet another vent posting echo chamber.

yup. You allow even an inch of politics and you can be sure that the sub will eventually turn into american politics slop. But you can't aggresively ban politics either, because then hoards of people will come to brigade the sub and ruin it in 'protest'

I mean tbf American politics slop has become world politics slop because the European and rest of the western far right is influenced by American far right politics, they all kind of copy each other. But I understand your point, politics is important and will affect you as it affects everyone, but sometimes you just want a break from arguing politics all the time. I do have to ask though, if this isn’t the place for political vent posts, is there a subreddit out there specifically made for that?

r/anime_titties might be a good sub, idk i prefer browing r/ world_politics tho

Are these subs meant to vent or to mock?

You’re underestimating the effect European and worldwide far-right politics also influences American politics.

Putin, who’s been in power for quite a while, meddled in and influenced our elections though propaganda farms, the current administration was also influenced by Victor Orban, and a large portion of the movement follow the beliefs of a certain Austrian who will remain nameless.

Those beliefs and those policies all influence and feed on each other, no matter where they come from and, even if we’re having a particularly hard time with it right now, the US is hardly the only exporter of far right or fascist ideology.

Or, to quote a famous PSA, we “learned it from watching you!”

I have no problem with discussing politics, as it's common worldwide, but when it's repeated across different subs, it becomes…

u/Cobra_the_Snek 4h ago

it's weird, i hate "no political discussion" rules but then you just get this. you just get either extreme with no middle ground

u/Tarthia 9h ago

Mostly and increasingly right wing as well. Its always some "a trans is made mad by this" shit

22

u/Lyskir 9h ago

its almost always : i hate this "insert strawman version of left wing thing/argument here"

4

u/AndanteZero 7h ago

Yup. Even though there are stupid people in the left wing, it can't compare to the stupidity of right wingers. Right wingers these days tend to be MAGA who lost touch with reality years ago.

1

u/Tarthia 2h ago

I more meant activity in this sub is going rightwing

u/whitestguyuknow 9h ago

I absolutely HATE Dasani water! Yuck!

Any of that reverse osmosis, minerals re-added water is disgusting.

THANK YOU! I don't know about y'all, but I personally don't like when my water tastes like pennies

u/Lua-Ma 9h ago edited 9h ago

I'm starting to suspect that right-wingers are beginning to infest this subreddit. Too many recent posts are about the LGBT, race and abortion.

16

u/Lyskir 9h ago

jep, they always "criticize" some strawman version of a leftwing thing or argument

its at least 2-3 months ago since right wringers/menosphere guys took over

6

u/Bulbaguy4 6h ago

I don't follow this sub, but every time I see it on my feed, it's always:

"I HATE GAY PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!! but I'm not homophobic (read description)"

"I HATE insert latest stupid fandom thing to hate!!!!"

"I HATE THIS COMIC GIRL!!!!!!!!!!"

It feels like it's an annoying place to actively follow.

That’s just Reddit unfortunately. Whenever a subreddit gets over, like, 1000 members, it immediately becomes a political battleground. Even adding a “no politics” rule doesn’t help.

Unfortunately a lot of people have lost the privilege of a world where politics don't effect them, and the privilege to have the time, energy, wellbeing, and unused hatred to comedically pour into Dasani waterbottles.

2

u/Bs90964 8h ago

Every subs relating to discussion always have political posts in them

1

u/MothEnthusiast88 7h ago

And hating on other subs (this sub became pretty hateable anyway so I think that is pointless)

1

u/wantsomerice 7h ago

leave it to redditors to shove politics down everyone's throat

1

u/austin_sketches 7h ago

tbf tho, i guess technically the image is political but the post itself is pretty apolitical. This just happens to be the example

1

u/RichNigerianUncle 6h ago

Unfortunately politics are a bit more forefront than normal since that freaks been in office

1

u/Infamous-Storage-708 5h ago

with the current state of the world, are we surprised?

1

u/PaintsLilGuys 3h ago

I really enjoyed the Texan Stovepipe post because I learned something new that day lmao

1

u/OkNefariousness284 3h ago

You let one political post happen, it spreads like wild fire. 25k member tax

1

u/Traditional-Tax11 Hater 9h ago

I swear I see this get commented on every single post

u/Xoctal 7h ago

When you have a government that shifts their focus to nothing but culture war bullshit that means nothing in the grand scheme of things and it appeals to the least common denominator among us, this is what your going to get. Everything has to be political because if its not they will notice the actual shit we should be paying attention too and we cant have that! THAT WOULD COST US MONEY WE COULD PUT IN OUR POCKETS!............FYI we have a president who has pocketed more money than any other president in history and he convinced a whole party to make everyone look the other way while he diddled kids and stole the bank.....
