Looking for comfortable hiking/walking shoes – similar to the Meindl Mondello GTX
My Meindl Mondello GTX have served me really well for over two years. The second sole is now getting close to being worn out, so I think they've earned their retirement. 😄
I'm now looking for a replacement and would really appreciate some recommendations.
Main use:
Mostly walking the dog – around town, but also on field paths and through woods. Occasionally longer hikes, but nothing in alpine terrain.
What I'm looking for:
- Waterproof
- Robust and durable
- Wide midfoot and toe box
- Enough room in terms of height for orthopedic insoles
- Preferably easy to clean and maintain
- Ideally BOA or a similar lacing system (if that's not possible, I'll probably just put elastic laces in again)
- Preferably dark-colored smooth leather
One thing I didn't particularly like about the Mondello was the suede upper. After a while it became quite discolored and started to look rather dirty. On the other hand, I absolutely loved the rubber protection around the heel and toe area.
Basically, I'm looking for something along the lines of the Meindl Mondello GTX, but ideally with BOA and a dark smooth-leather upper.
I'm also completely open to other brands and models as long as they fit my requirements.
What would you recommend? And what shoes do you use for a similar kind of everyday walking/hiking?
