If you felt like you had a question but didn't want to bother people with it, now's your chance.

As always, we also have a discord for hoggit over at http://discord.gg/hoggit which you can use for chatting with other members of the hoggit community. And don't forget to check out our wiki at http://wiki.hoggitworld.com

Hoggit Training Server runs a training MP mission that runs 24/7 that's focuses on training up the newer folks (just like this weekly thread). Every DCS module is available in this mission, and there are numerous ranges to test your skills at. There are frequently knowledgeable folks around to answer any questions you might have, or show you how to do what it is you're looking to learn. Anyone can join, even if you've never stepped foot in a MP session before.

If you're interested in teaching/instructing at hoggit, please poke squinkys on Discord!

Server is be named Hoggit - Training Map. The password is hoggit1fw. SRS will be available at tnn.hoggitworld.com (it should autoconnect, but if not, use that). Come in, have a good time, learn a few things and teach a few things.

The only rule is Do not teamkill, unless the other party is a willing combatant...ie: you can dogfight if you find a partner...just don't shoot down some random A-10 trying to learn how to land.

Please review our FAQ on our wiki before posting here: https://wiki.hoggitworld.com/view/Frequently_Asked_Questions

QUESTION I just got the F/A 18c, how do you use 2 jets with same hotas with out getting confused?

I have both f 16 and recently bought an f 18 . I have wondered this even before buying, but are most buttons the same? I know the easiest way to fix this is to buy 2 separate hotas for each jet but that seems too expensive. do any of you have a way to not get confused?

QUESTION F18 radar hell

I’ve had the f18 for quite some time now but only really specialized in the f16. Now that I’m learning the hornet, I’ve come to realize the radar is nowhere near as easy to use as the viper.

On the f16 it’s soo easy everything is laid out for you. Red is bad guy, green is good guy. Point the radar at the red guy and lock him up, shoot. In the hornet however, contacts are constantly disappearing, teleporting, or just not seeing everyone from datalink. When I finally get a hard target, I go to lock him up, then I see “no radar.” no matter what I do, I see this. Does anyone know why? I’m assuming this is heavy user error, but I really just don’t get the hornet radar at all.

HARDWARE Looking for a decent first hotas

Hello everyone,

I’m fairly new to DCS and I’m looking to buy my first HOTAS. I started playing since may on a ps5 controller, since then I have been learning how to fly and operate the F-16 module, and let’s just say ever since then I’m HOOKED big time. I’ve got to the point where I think I’m pretty comfortable with the module (as far as you can get on a controller), but I’m coming to the point where it’s feeling like it’s holding me back. I don’t own a HOTAS nor head tracking jet.

I want to invest in a quality HOTAS which will serve me for the coming years without having to worry about upgrading or being let down by the quality or functionality. For now I want to focus on getting good with the F-16 before even thinking about getting a new module. My budget is around $500-$1000 in total.

So my questions to you guys are:

-What kind of HOTAS should I look in to? (Preferably something similar to a IRL military style HOTAS)

- Do I need to pair my HOTAS with rudder pedals or is that optional?

- what type of Head tracking do you guys recommend?

- is there anything else hardware related i should look in to that would enhance my experience?

Thanks in advance for the help!

In being based solely on flying the plane, is being a fighter/attack jet more difficult than flying a multi engine commercial passenger jet?

DCS AH-64 gunner seat with only keyboard and mouse and no experience

I was thinking about trying out Apache with my friend in multi crew. Question is: will he be able to operate just fine in CPG seat with only keyboard and mouse? Or is that a bad idea?

He also has 0 experience with flight sims but he played a lot of war thunder and arma so weapon system understanding shouldn’t be too big of an issue.

Working on an AWACS-themed bot for Top Gun & aviation fans — would you guys actually use this?

Hey everyone!

I’m currently building Project ACE, a Discord bot made specifically for aviation geeks, flight simmers, and Top Gun fans.

The main twist? Everything is voiced/styled by AWACS Sentry — an airborne early warning character running the ops right out of the cockpit.

Here’s what I’m working on so far:

  • Custom Pilot Cards: Rendered HUD-style ID cards with your callsign, rank, and main jet.
  • Interactive Dogfights: Tactical duel system using buttons/modals to pick maneuvers (Cobra, Split-S, Yo-Yo).
  • Squadrons & Ranks: Form your own unit with friends and climb global leaderboards.
  • AWACS Radio Logs: Aviation dictionary, radar locks (Fox-2!), and tactical voice channel ops.

Be completely honest — does a bot like this sound cool for your server, or is it way too niche? What features would make you actually want to add it?

Would love to hear your thoughts before I drop the beta!

Straight to DCS or something between Arcade & Sim?

I know this reddit is more for simulation so if this is considered off-topic I apologize. I have always loved combat aircrafts and by extension loved games that feature them but I have only ever played arcade style games such as H.A.W.X, Ace Combat and Battlefield. Recently I bought a Winwing Ursa Minor Fighter joystick and have been thinking about trying DCS but frankly, the amount of information to even get an aircraft moving from a cold start is a lot to process. The radar and weapon systems are obviously much more complex to anything I have seen before.

I have consumed a lot in terms of things like tutorials on Youtube and Chucks guides and maybe that's part of the problem, maybe I am overloading myself and instead I just need to get into an aircraft and just start flying. Maybe focus on 1 thing a night or something.

For those who have the experience. would I be better off finding a combat aviation game that sits somewhere between arcade and simulation to help me learn some of the basics before transitioning to something like DCS? I don't like a lot of things about War Thunder so I was considering Nuclear Option (I prefer a modern'ish setting). I know everyone is different but just looking for some opinions from people who have been in the same spot I am.

I know even if I do go with another game first, DCS will still require A LOT of time of patience. I'm just trying to avoid a situation where I try it and bounce off it.

Thanks for reading.

Looking for my next F/A-18C campaign after The Serpent’s Head

Hey everyone!
I’m still pretty new to DCS, with around 60 hours so far. I’ve been flying the F/A-18C and recently finished The Serpent’s Head, which I really enjoyed.
Now I’m looking for my next campaign. I’d like something a little more advanced and realistic than The Serpent’s Head, but still reasonably beginner-friendly. I’m definitely willing to learn new systems and weapons along the way — I just don’t want to jump straight into something extremely difficult or punishing.

My main preferences are:
F/A-18C
Carrier-based operations
Realistic missions/operations
A step up from The Serpent’s Head, but still suitable for a relatively new DCS player
Preferably no mandatory air-to-air refueling for now

I don’t mind having to learn new systems or more complex procedures. I’m mostly trying to avoid campaigns where I’ll have to replay every mission 20 times just to progress.
What would you guys recommend as the next step?

Thanks!!

I just started flying the F5, remastered, and regret not hopping in its cockpit before now.

No AI was used in the creation of this content. This is original content made for fun.

Also just started using rockets. They're something I ignored for some reason. They are a lot of fun on almost any aircraft.

Let me know what you think of the F5, the video, rockets, or anything else pertaining to something you saw. I appreciate y'all. Thanks for driving the passion!
