FYI Took SSRI: Warning
I finally tried a ssri (prozac/fluoxetine) after keep hearing about ssri able to help hypercusis. I watched a video on a guy who said it helped him improve his h. Well after my earplug broke and irritated my nerve I said f it let’s give it a go because I like to experiment. I researched the side effects and knew they was not to be played with but still at that time I didn’t care I just wanted the pain to go away.
I took a 20mg pill I was waiting for the effect to kick in like a Xanax or something but this was completely different.
The next couple days I thought it didn’t do anything for me but was I wrong. Instantly started noticing my body had changes. I’m not going to lie it did improve my pain and ldls but I had a new problem now. Apparently the medication I took can cause pssd/sexual dysfunction which I am now trying to fix and can be lifelong condition. My whole pelvis floor is in pain and my mind has went blank and everything is numb. I don’t feel any sensation including sexually and normally. It’s like it stole my identity and sex drive. I had a girl over and she literally left because she said I didnt like her anymore. Things I used to enjoy are uninteresting. I am not trying to make this an anti ssri post but sharing my experience with trying to improve my h. I still have hope that I will recover but for people trying ssri be careful because honestly now I have another problem 2 worry about. Now people may say it’s rare side effect but if u take a look at the pssd thread it’s people just like us who are suffering from conditions like h/t. I think if you’re going to take a ssri it should be your LAST option because the side effects can hurt u.

Yes. In some cases they can be lifesavers, but I think we have to really be self aware when we take them. Many have withdrawal issues as well. It’s often a trade-off.
Wellbutrin is the only one that really worked for me, and I’m not able to take it now because it makes my tinnitus worse. So did Cymbalta. So instead I focus on changing my situation and taking better care of myself. With mixed results, of course!
Bottom line: SSRIs aren’t always a good option.

1/3 helped me 2/3 harmed me trade off was awful 4 me. Bupropion I heard rings the bell louder if u already have a fire alarm going on. Well I thought since prozac doesn’t harm your t it might have been the safer option. All the pills they make will mess u up in the long run it’s best to just make the best out your situation and home therapy like u said and change your lifestyle. Idk what way they can be lifesavers tho I didn’t feel anything : I wasn’t on them long enough also im reading ssri destroy your gut health and desensitize receptors

They can be life savers, if otherwise you would kill yourself. For example, if you have a depression, which they are meant to treat.

Yep SSRI’s are poison I would only take as a last resort. They are way over prescribed.
One of the top side effects is erectile disfunction and delayed ejaculation.

This is horrible, I'm so sorry. It's such a flip of a coin. These meds can be lifesavers but also further destroy you. I hope you will heal and pssd will get more recognition and treatments.

'I view the role of the patient as engaged partner, not passive recipient..' Not my saying, but damn sure my attitude. If You still can, do your homework and research the drugs and alternatives. Light and Energy to all of us.

You should first learn in more before using AD's (anti depressant). Starting with 20 mg is insane, that is the base of were you need to go. But dont start with it, you need to start at a very low dossage. 2.5mg for 2 weeks than go for 5. etc. It does work wonders, and the side effects do wear off most of them.
The sexual part is also getting ''healed'' with time but yes it will still lower it.
Anyway if you are sticking to AD's. It does help. But start it very slow...

I’m not planning on taking anymore I’m just going to try to recover naturally now I wish I knew how bad it could get before I should of talked with someone who had more experience and research done into it

This is a known side effect. Taking just one pill should not do that. It happens over time. It takes a while to build up in your system and to have a sude effect like that. One cannot say it is lifelong in your situation. Just my opinion.

It can happen after one pill. I’ve heard it many times. May not be lifelong, but can happen fast. These meds are dangerous and they are being used on very sensitized nervous systems which automatically places you at more risk of the awful side effects. Trade1 problem for 14 new ones

I fully agree. I cannot take them for that reason. I dont care what these doctors say.

And then they gaslight you and tell you it’s not the meds. Such a nightmare

True story. I am a woman. This will make sense soon. I saw a psychiatrist who was a woman. I was explaining to her why I cannot certain meds because they can very well worsen other conditions. I gave glp1s as an example as I already have pancreas issues and I cant take the risk.
She replies "it sounds like you are overly concerned about side effects."
I sat there for about 5 seconds and thought ohhh Ive been waiting for this! I had a response.
I said "so if I were to bring in my pancreas specialist he would tell you the same thing. You wpukd most likely believe him. What is the difference with ne saying it. Why would I be overly concerned and he would be seen as medically sound when we said the same thing?"
Mic drop. She changed her tune because I checked her bias. I was pissed due to the internalized mysogyny BUT I was happy I finally had a good comeback. I however should not be the one to check her bias that should ended at the door. I hate it here.

Yes, it took me awhile to be able to think on my feet in the doc’s office. I’ve learned going graphic is effective: “That med makes my tinnitus sound like a siren, and my ears fill up, and then I have violent vertigo with vomiting and diarrhea while lying on the floor utterly incapacitated for hours.” And I smile placidly, and that topic is dropped.

Yes, I also took an antidepressant called mirtazapine. Because of this awful medication, I developed serious ear problems, including patulous Eustachian tube dysfunction and tensor tympani syndrome. I also experienced unexplained bruising.

Don't try clomipramine then. It has quite a following here, but it can cause the same side effects. Worse often, as it is more potent than SSRI's. I was on it for a year for my H and it did not help my ears at all, but it did give me a tonne of unpleasant sides.
