Seeking advice Setback phone

I have severe Nox pain when speaking. I’d had much less burning over the last few days and was seeing some slight improvement, but then I had a personal issue and lost track of time; I ended up spending an hour on a call using the speakerphone—albeit at a very low volume and with earplugs in. For the past three days, the burning has come back with a vengeance, and I feel like the hypersensitivity has skyrocketed. I don't know if it's because of the phone call or not, but I'm terrified that I've made things worse. Do you think it will pass?

I'm of this opinion that if you had similar situations in the past and it went away, then you can do it again. Of course this is not an universal rule.

Your stress is surely making things worse. I'm not going to tell you to stop stressing because I know that's it's impossible in those situations. Take it easy for the next days, get rest and maybe treat yourself to some nice food / hobbies if you can!

Honestly, for a while now, I feel like I can't stay positive or keep up any hope about my situation. I really feel like I'm completely done for—that I’m not going to get any better. It’s been nine months since my condition became severe, and I’ve seen very little improvement; I just cry all the time—it’s awful.

Sorry to hear that. Not sure what's causing your hyperacusis, so this might not be an advice that works in all cases. In my case it was entirely stress related and just like you I was also terrified of setbacks after a few bad experiences. However, I eventually realized that it wasn't even the sounds that were causing the hyperacusis, it was the stress itself, being terrified in advance of potential setbacks. In other words it's a vicious cycle: you are stressed, which causes hyperacusis, and you get even more stressed. Understanding this can give you power over this condition and it might help break the cycle. Just something to think about. Hope you'll feel better soon!
