6 week (almost 7) post op tomorrow

I've had a pretty uneventful hysterectomy and recovery journey. I was back to driving/working by day 5, and was told I could do basically anything other than heavy lifting or inserting anything into the vagina by my first post op visit (it was somewhere around the 3 week mark).

My next post op is tomorrow (almost to the 7 week mark). Im very excited to hopefully get back to intercourse tomorrow. I'm a little worried because my boyfriend is a bit larger than average in size, but if I am cleared he has agreed to take it easy/slow. We had a very active sex life before so we are both eager to get back to it.

Any suggestions? Im excited and scared.

My surgeon said take it soft and slow till 12 weeks. My husband agreed to just do fun outside stuff until then because it freaks me out. He also is bigger so I'm kinda scared to go to quickly.

You are going to get the mixture of those in this group who will say “Don’t have sex until 12 weeks,” And “We had sex at 8 weeks and here’s what worked.”

All that to say, this sub is incredibly helpful, but I’ve seen the sex question so mixed that the absolute best advice and tip is to TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR. Not what poster Jane’s Dr. told her, not what poster Betty’s Dr. told her, what YOUR Dr. who did your surgery, knows your medical history, the suture technique they used, etc. tells you. This is because Jane’s surgeon may have seen something you didn’t have, and your surgeon may have seen you have something that Betty didn’t. Every surgery, recovery, body, etc. is different no matter how alike we all seem.

Ask your Dr. for tips. Ask their experience with cuff tears or consequences of sex at 8 weeks, etc.

And then…listen to your body. Don’t rush it. Outside play can be just as fun. I’ll be waiting a few extra weeks after I’m cleared for penetration, but that is a ME thing for my body.

Oh no :( my bf isnt like HUGE but he's definitely bigger than average. I have no shame so I guess I will mention that to the dr as well if he says I am cleared.

My surgeon told me she had a patient who had sex at 6 weeks 1 day, & ended up prolapsing her intestines out of her vagina. She recommends 8 weeks, & then taking it slow & steady.

Saving this post to remind myself why I need to wait

100% listen to your doctor. If they clear you, buy some water based lube and use a lot of it. Go slow and if he is long vs wide, consider using a donut for a while. It is a thing that goes on the peter to keep him from being able to go all the way in.

I personally would wait it out till 8 weeks just to be extra cautious but I have to wait that long anyway. My appointment is almost 9 weeks from my surgery. At 6 weeks, there is no way I would've been ready to have sex.

I also read someone saying their doctor told them to go back to weight lifting two weeks after surgery. I don't know if they are telling the truth or not but there is no way in hell most doctors would suggest that. My point is that I would be careful listening to people online. Listen to your doctor and your body. If your doctor approves but your heart knows you should wait, wait! There are plenty of things that you can do other than penis in vagina sex that are a TON of fun!
