Claims Write off?

Post image

Had someone reverse into me
Currently driving a 2009 Honda stepwagon with about 73,000km bought for about 10k~
Just looking at it without opening the hood the radiators are pushed in and leaking, I feel if I open the hood it won’t latch again, and I feel if I gave it a light kick it would fall apart.

RHD. Instant write off unfortunately

Those parts are going to be practically impossible to source. Because of the cost and logistics of obtaining them, my money's on a write off.

That would easily total a regular 2009 car. I can’t imagine how prohibitively expensive it would be for a 2009 Japanese import. All the manuals and such would probably be also written in Japanese meaning that you would have to find a specific body shop able to work on it.

You're absolutely right on all counts.

did the person make the call for the estimator to deem it’s a “write off” tho?

If it’s their fault, you’ll be covered for repairs. File your claim, get an estimate and probably have to pay the deductible. Make sure you say it’s not drivable and needs to be picked up. Hopefully it’s their fault …

He wouldnt need to pay the deductible if it isn't his fault. Also just because its not someone's fault does not mean it will be repaired.

Have you looked at the market to get an idea of value?

Keep the listings you find. Make sure it shows the date listed, but see if you can find any from auto trader, Craigslist, car gurus, etc. As well. Some estimators won't accept marketplace ads.

My “opinion/experience” my whole front end was totalled, it was their fault, after ICBC inspected I still had to pay the deductible. It’s a hit/miss type of situation. It honestly took over 2-3 months to complete. Did you file your claim with ICBC yet? Just jumping the gun right now, the wait is horrible but it has to be done. Either way.

You dont pay a deductible if it isn't hou fault unless its vandalism or a hit and run. So you misunderstood, or you got screwed.

Insurance is not fun, wasn’t a misunderstanding, I even explained it to ICBC, it wasn’t my fault, in order for ICBC to cover it, the deductible had to be covered. I’m explaining “my experience/opinion” ; in this guys case, he will need to file a claim, get a estimator and adjustor then poof a decision is made, but right now not a lot until that call is made… not my choice, sorry for giving “wrong” advice. A lot of people will have their opinions. 💯✔️

Yup. You're entitled to it.

There’s no proof is the issue. If he lies I’m 100% at fault

For the next car, definitely get a dash cam.
