I took Slash’s solo from Sweet Child O’ Mine and reworked the melodic ideas using more of a modern jazz / bebop vocabulary.

I didn’t change the harmony or the backing track. I mainly changed the way the solo itself develops: phrasing, melodic language, chromaticism, and some of the improvisational ideas.

I’m curious what you guys think. Does it still feel like Sweet Child O’ Mine, or does it start sounding like a completely different musical language?

Hello, I’m a guitarist in my last year at jazz school. Though I mainly play in contemporary bands I find that studying jazz gives me a clear direction to focus my practice.

All that being said I’m looking for advice when it comes to daily review of scales.

I want to work on Major, Melodic Minor, Harmonic Minor, and the Altered Scale

For each I want to work on scales in 3rds, 4ths
7th Arpeggios, Triad arpeggios.

Yesterday I ran through just the major scale in the 5 positions single note then 3rds, 4ths, and both arpeggios patterns I mentioned, switching keys each time.

This took up a large part of my practice that I felt could be better spent. And I didn’t even do this with all of the scales I want to be fluent in!

My question is how do I effectively review these consistently? Should I alternate days working on different scales or patterns?

I also feel overwhelmed with how many possible patterns of the scales I could be working on.

This was a bit of a ramble and I could be completely going down the wrong avenue in terms of what I should actually be working on.

I was desperately looking for an Es-135, one came up and while I was putting down my credit card details it got snatched up.

I thought I’d change the pickups but the 490 at the neck is quite nice for jazz to my ears…

It mostly mentions fingerings. Im wondering if its useful for musicality beyond that because I have the book but I don't think I'm advanced and musical enough to be wondering about optimal fingering. Or maybe its gold to focus on that as early as possible?

What tuning do y'all use?

I have been using E Standard for jazz so that I can quickly read lead sheets and know where to go.

But I need to send in one of my guitars for a small repair, so I figured I'd have it set up professionally while it's at the shop.

This is my Gretsch hollowbody, so I don't use it ONLY for jazz, but MOSTLY for jazz... so I kind of want it in E Flat Standard.

What do y'all do? I just assumed everyone was using E Standard, but I'm sure of y'all prefer something different.

I always have my 60s Harmony Rocket set up for E Standard with flat wounds, so I have a dedicated jazz archtop already. Maybe I go with E Flat for the Gretsch?

hi guys I’m just beginning to get into into solo Jazz Guitar and I’m playing around with diatonic progressions. But I’m struggling to find anything that really works with the fifth. It’s got that slightly awkward dominant. What I’d really love is something that Sounds jazzy and that will allow me to move comfortably from that lovely diatonic major 4th to that nice diatonic minor 6th
