Help/Support 🫂 Katie Garcia “accident”/death mystery
Hi! I’m here helping to spread the word in the hopes we can get information about the death of a KC Local and personal friend,Katie Garcia.
Fox4 News Story here
Katie, a 42-year-old massage therapist, died on August 29, 2026 after spending nearly a month in the hospital fighting severe, unexplained injuries. She was found unconscious, bloodied, and partially naked (from the waist down) in the side yard of her Kansas City, Missouri home. Her family and friends are currently demanding answers and calling for a thorough investigation into what they believe was a violent assault.
The Timeline of Events
July 29, 2026 (9:30 PM): Katie finished her workday and returned to the home she shared with her husband, Billy Taylor near East 28th Street and Prospect Avenue. Based on Billy’s account, everything seemed normal, and they went to bed as normal.
July 30, 2026 (12:11 AM): The home’s ADT security system logged the back door opening.
(12:40 AM): The ADT system logged the door shutting.
July 30, 2026 (6:30/6:45 AM): Her husband woke up, noticed she was missing, and searched the property. He discovered her critically injured and unclothed from the waist down in the side yard and called 911.
August 27, 2026: After 28 days on life support and undergoing multiple surgeries, medical intervention was stopped at the family's request, and Katie later passed away on August 29, 2026.
Unresolved Mysteries & Frustrations
The case has sparked significant public attention due to several unusual and highly criticized details:
Extreme BAC Level: Hospital records showed Katie had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .400 at 7:00 AM in the morning—five times the legal driving limit—despite no alcohol being found at the scene, adding confusion to the timeline.
No Rape Kit Performed: Because Katie was unconscious and unable to consent, KCPD investigators needed a search warrant to perform a sexual assault examination kit. That warrant was reportedly never secured, a delay that has deeply frustrated her family.
Investigation Status: Family members initially feared the Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) had quietly closed the case. However, KCPD told FOX4 that the case remains an active investigation.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about what happened between midnight and the early morning hours of July 30 to contact the Kansas City Police Department or the anonymous TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
Katie’s sister and friends have started a TikTok where they release updates /@ justice.for.katiegarcia
Any information from our KC community is desperately needed. Thank you!

Weather 🌦️ Actually enjoying this week's weather
The forecast of 99 and 100 degree days was horrifying, but this dry heat feels much more comfortable than the oppressively humid 80 degree days we had a month ago. Anyone else feel the same way?

Shopping/Groceries 🛒🛍️ Looking to save money for essentials at stores
Since obviously literally everything is getting more expensive by the day, I'm trying to figure out creative ways to save money when we buy weekly essential groceries.
I feel like our family already does a decent job saving money by just buying essentials at Aldi and Costco. We usually buy whole, real foods, not pre-packaged meals. I'm a big consumer of coffee, so I'm not giving that up. I make my own coffee at home by buying coffee beans at Costco when they're on sale or I absolutely am low on supply.
Is there any tips you can give? I'm a little concerned about the price of everything especially for next year, because I have a feeling our health insurance premium is going to have another significant increase. I'm not looking forward to that at all. We rely on our health insurance, and that's been kinda the wild card of how our way of life will be next year. So just trying to get a a head start in shopping habits before regular bills become bigger.

Barbecue 🔥 Would anyone know where to find bulk whole Piri Piri/African Birdseye peppers in KC?
Cooking in a competition for my nonprofit that supports water sanitation and hygiene in Malawi!
We are making a recipe that honors Malawian tradition and a key part of it is the African Birdseye peppers. We know we can order online but would rather support local :) we will be making rub/sauce for roughly 2000 wings.
Any leads appreciated! Come out to Wings for Water on Sept 10th

KC Rants 😡 👎 Public Transit from Airport
Why is there only one bus that leaves ONCE AN HOUR to go downtown from the airport? What a fucking joke, the only options to get anywhere from the airport are renting a car or spending 50 dollars on an Uber. If we want to be a world class city we NEED legitimate transport from the airport to downtown. The shuttles to the rental car places seem to come non stop but god forbid someone not want to blow money on a rental car.

Help/Support 🫂 Anybody near Gladstone willing to help me save a goose?
I frequent Oak grove park daily to hang out with the geese. Well people fish here, and I pick up hooks/fishing line almost every day.
There's a sweet goose who I noticed a few days ago who isn't really walking. They came up to me today, they have fishing line wrapped around both legs and its body so it can't really walk well or swim.
It can fly, I got about a foot away from it just now and it took off limping into the air.
I am a small woman and I'd like emotional and physical support in grabbing this thing to get the line off lol. I'll be here awhile if you're driving by or sm soon to help 😭
Anybody willing to help? I'm so heartbroken. I tried calling the wildlife rehab center but they won't return my call.

City Services/Banking ♻️🛜🏧 Hey, why does so much mail get stuck for days to weeks at the KCKS distribution center?
This is a specific gripe, but one I'm curious about.
Multiple times in the last few months, a package I was tracking came to Olathe, then from there ended up at the KCKS distribution center. It will then just sit for for upwards of a few weeks with no movement. I've never seen this happen at other cities I've lived.
Is the KCKS distribution center just uniquely bad? Are they all like this now with so much funding cut to post offices? Is there some kind of portal system where it has to move through different dimensions within the KCKS building before it gets sent out? What gives?

Volunteering/Giving 🎗️ How do I get old newspapers to use in my classroom?
Poor journalism teacher looking for old newspapers to teach with. Any stores donate these on occasion or do the distributors collect them everywhere now?

Tattoos/Piercings 🐉🌹 Hyper-realistic tattoo artists?
Does anyone have any recommendations for tattoo artists who do hyper-realism in the area? I want to get a hyper-realistic tattoo of my cat's snoot. Kinda like this, but his full chin and whiskers, plus my cat. I appreciate any help or advice! Thanks!

Arts/Culture 🎭🎶 Percussionist Wanted: Social Symphony of Kansas City Seeks Local and Social Talent
We are preparing for our winter concert and find that we are in need of an additional percussionist. We’re a laid-back community orchestra made up of musicians of all ages (over the age of 21) and skill levels. When we formed in 2018, most of us hadn’t played music in many years. But with an instrument in one hand and a drink in the other, we get together weekly to rehearse and socialize.
What you’ll play: TBD (a percussionist is not writing this ad)
Our vibe: We are set up like a traditional symphonic orchestra I.e. brass, winds, strings, percussion, the whole shebang. We prioritize a fun and relaxing time during rehearsals. We usually play modern tunes and this season includes soundtracks to blockbuster movies. Future seasons could include classical, holiday, or medley styles of music.
Commitment: We rehearse Monday nights through the spring and fall in downtown KCMO and our next concert is December 6th, 2026
Who you are: Reliable, positive attitude, and ready to have a good time. There is no audition process and we will provide equipment.
For more details visit us at our website and please consider joining the waitlist. You can also reply to this post or DM me.

Housing Search 🏠🔎 Best Downtown Lofts to Own
I want to buy a loft downtown and am looking for a building that has a reasonable HOA and cash reserves. For those of you who own lofts downtown, which building is going to be the best investment? I plan on staying for at least 10+ years. I know to avoid Metropolitan and Western Auto, what are the other nightmare buildings?

Housing Search 🏠🔎 Courthouse Lofts Kansas City
*BEDBUG infestation! With no new communication from management to help tenants. THIS PLACE IS HORRIFIC AND HAS SADLY BECOME DANGEROUS, FILTHY AND UNAFFORDABLE UNDER THE CURRENT BUILDING MANAGER. KC Tenants Union said “management here are displacing and evicting poor people” and then raising the rent by hundreds of dollars. They treat tenants with such disrespect and like profit commodities…not the struggling poor people that they take advantage of. They stopped giving new tenants storage on the 3rd fl and evicted most. The building manager Coleman lives in the Penthouse and works here and lies about living here according to many tenants. When I asked him he said “no I don’t live here…that would be a nightmare” JUST ONE YEAR HERE, I’ve had 22 service requests from neglected broken old appliances and everything else. There was a dead body that started smelling so bad on the second floor. The building Manager Coleman charges tenants 60% of their limited income (that’s double the national average of 30%) and makes poor tenants even poorer and then evicts them..IT’S PREDATORY. Management is in the business of making big profits off the poorest Section 8 and people making under 39k. Unless you are Section 8 you’ll pay almost $1,300 + $150 fees for a well documented horribly managed dangerous very dirty Section 8 building. They charge market value rent for what is advertised as affordable. KC apartments for less with better services and living standards are all over downtown. KC Tenants Union said management here were “mistreating” tenants in a written statement.
Regional Manager Heather threatened me for having VERY serious concerns about the crime, filthy living conditions and affordability issues in the building. The assistant manager Fabiola verbally threatened me yelling out loud “I’m suing you!” and called me slurs. I have it recorded and reported it to Tenant Advocates KC. Coleman the “Community Manager” is retaliatory and censors community board communication to avoid any accountability.
Tenants throw their trash out their window.
Management cut security and there was a heinous murder on the front steps in 2022! Overdoses in the common areas often. Drug syringes found and people sitting in the hallway smoking meth. Illegal BED BUG management discarded mattresses in the trash area.
$100-125+ fees for a parking space in a filthy 125° garage with trash spills, feces and disgusting leaking pipes. Additional fee's: $47 for water and $35 pet rent. THEY RAISE YOUR RENT THE MAXIMUM MISSOURI ALLOWS 7% EVERY YEAR. Vandalism and crime in the building everywhere. $200 electric bill from outdated HVAC systems and 125° summer garage heat from a broken heater system. Windows open 6” with no screens or cross ventilation. I’ve had rodents (bats) fly into my apartment. A tenant knocked on my door and exposed themselves. Building is surrounded by abandoned property and Crime. Manager Heather threatened me with eviction over her own clerical errors and never apologized. Alexander Company’s property down the street Professional Building Lofts was on the news from neglect and they evicted the tenants GOOGLE IT. There is dog urine and feces in the building. Homeless people in the hallways. The elevators and garage are filthy and regularly filled with human vomit, human urine and Mold. Stolen packages are a regular thing and management ignores the problem and just blames tenants. PROFIT is all they care about …not the safety, cleanliness or affordability for income challenged tenants. Manager Heather will intimidate and threaten eviction in a retaliatory way. This is all verifiable…AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. Read the other reviews
