Swap Meet Saturday Swap Meet Saturday

Welcome to The Swap Meet!

Do you have stuff that needs a new home, do you have a new home that needs stuff? Looking for something specific?

Let's see how this swap meet goes, it's an experiment.

But first, some rules:

* 1 - this is a public space, be mindful of phone numbers, email and location addresses. Assume that if you post a number, expect everyone to call, years from now to ask if it's still available.

* 2 - please report problem buyers or sellers. this is a member to member space but if people are being a problem we need to know. resist the urge to call them out in frank and blunt language in the thread, that's a hot ticket to getting flagged yourself as part of the problem.

* 3 - if it's gone let a mod know if you are having trouble deleting your post yourself. no one likes seeing the exact thing you need but it's from years ago and from a user who hasn't been seen is years. I'll flush it out at the end of the month, if it's still kicking around, repost on the next saturday.

* 4 -posts get posted on saturdays, it's swap meet saturday not swap meet whenever you feel.

* 5 - this is an experiment, if it fails it fails. if it disappears one day so be it.

The idea is this thread IS the swap meet. You have stuff that needs to come or go, you reply on here. I'll sticky it up at the top so it's always here. Provided it's maintained, the whole thread shouldn't be terribly long so, thankfully, no doom scrolling the buy/sell/trade.

so ::cuts ribbon with comically large scissors:: Welcome to Swap Meet Saturday. ::Balloons and Confetti drop::

Mechanical and Technical issues keeping it running longer than 20 mins

Post image

Hey guys i recently got a 1997 Suzuki carry. When we first bought it we test drove it for like 45 mins, tested the dump bed, lights, ect basic stuff. Everything appeared to be working perfectly fine and it was a great running truck when we bought it.
Now it’s been 2 weeks since it’s been delivered to my house and i drove it for about the same amount of time before it randomly shut off in the middle of the road, acting like it was running out of gas, and not turning over at all, and then we had problems with getting the dump bed to go back down. Turns out the alternator was bad.

I got a new alternator and installed it and dump bed works great now, lights stay on, and my battery doesn’t die after 10 mins of running. perfect .. or not. It still shuts off on me after about 20 minutes of driving.

The fuel filter was also pretty gross so we charged that out. We did some research and thought it could maybe be a fuel tank ventilation issue maybe it was clogged and creating a vaccume and making it shut off after a certain amount of time running. Well i took the gas cap off and drove it around and still after about 20 minutes it shut off like it’s running out of gas.

Everytime i would break down i would push it off into a spot where i could leave it for about 1-2 hrs and when i come back it starts within 2-3 cranks. And im able to drive it again for about 10-20 minutes before it does the same thing again.

I bought a new Fuel pump and i’m going to install that sometime this week and i’m hoping that might help with the issue, i’ve had a couple of people helping me with it and research and learn with me, and they are saying it could maybe be a coil issue as well. Just wanted to share what i was going though lately with trying to get my kei truck running and if anyone had any ideas or suggestions i could try to keep it running for longer than 20 minutes.

Mechanical and Technical Learn how to drive stick with grandpas mini truck?

Post image

Grandpas had this for around 15 years, don’t know anything else about it really. Wants me to take a crack at getting it running again since it’s been sitting for about 3 years.

Would it be a good idea to learn how to drive stick with this thing or am I gonna destroy it?

Also, any advice on getting it running again would be sweet. Just gonna follow a Chris Fix video and hope for an easy fix

I thought this truck or van was was cool and you need to see it! 2200km long range recovery in a Acty

Early August my motorcycle broke down 1400km away from home on the near Pimba on the Stuart Highway in South Australia original destination Darwin on Tuesday. It took me to Friday to hitchhike back to Melbourne via coach, train what ever sleep on the side of the road.

Friday Evening I left Melbourne in my Kei truck now Recovery Wrecker and drives all night, resting at truck stop and power napping in the tray, pasting Adelaide to Pt Augustus on Saturday morning. Loaded my bike up and drove back to Melbourne arriving Sunday morning where I had my first good sleep in 6 days.

Kei truck performed fanatic, range 350km with out the bike on a 30L tank doing 85km/hr, 300km with the bike doing 85km/hr back to Melbourne. The recovery mission was completed 34hrs which insane short even in a vehicle that can do the speed limit.

Tip on roadtrip is doing at night as the colder air, improved fuel efficiency, less traffic and increases engine power.

Importing information, insights and experiences Anyone ever dealt with Kei Truck Direct?

HEY! So we're looking to replace our fleet of Kawasaki 400 SxS UTV's and I'm trying to go the Kei route, if my employer lets me.

I'm currently talking to Kei Truck Direct. I think I have it narrowed down to a Carry and (possibly) a Hijet to start out and see if they like them here. Actually is also possible.

My question is, have any of you dealt with Kei Truck Direct? If so, how was it for you?

I am also shopping Car From Japan and JDM All Makes Motors.

If y'all have any insight, I'd really appreciate it.

I really want to make this work so, in the future, I can get more of these trucks in here where I work. And, since they'll never leave the facility and don't need to comply with road rules, in the future (if all goes well to start) I can get newer trucks with better equipment later.

Thanks.

Importing information, insights and experiences Golden year for Kei Truck safety/reliability

I’m curious if anyone has done the research to see what upcoming year has the biggest upgrades in safety technology, ride comfort and engine performance while considering the USA 25 year rule. in other words- is there an upcoming year of manufactured Kei trucks that saw a big swing in crash safety and tech?

I would like to gift one to my dad but I’m concerned about the safety of the current available models since we live in a higher traffic big city

Mechanical and Technical 1990 Honda Acty Van - No Start

Post image
7 Upvotes

I purchased a 90' Acty Van and it ran fine for the first couple of days. Then is would not start... Spark and Fuel are fine, but not sure on Air. I removed intake added started fluid but no luck. Engine cranking sounds sluggish and slower than my three trucks. Battery has been swapped with one from my trucks and did not change the crank speed. Sparks have been changed and the old ones were a bit wet with fuel when removed(Flooding I assume). Have not tested solenoids yet, but will do asap. Any other suggestions to do for Trial -&- Error?

Importing information, insights and experiences Documents needed for a trucker to pick up my kei?

Hi everyone, I have a Honda acty on a ship right now, expected to get in on the 11th to Newark port NJ.

I already filed ISF, and I'm mostly just waiting for the ship to arrive.

I'm very very nervous about what documents I need to give, I spoke to someone from a transport company and they said they needed to know what documents they will need. Everywhere I look online gives me a lot of things, including for registering and all that.

Right now I am only worried about what I need for the trucker to recieve my truck from the dock, Im not in a rush to drive the truck just to have it. I've heard a few different things needed, Bill of lading, 7501 entry summary, then I saw something about a HS-7 or a "epa3520" and I can't wrap my head around it.

I've tried calling different numbers at the port but I only got through to one person who directed me somewhere that I couldn't get someone on the line... Not even sure if I was calling the right places, I haven't found exactly where the truck will be once it arrives

If anyone could tell me exactly what I'll need to give the shipping company I would be so greatful. They would need me to send them the original documents also right? Oh God I wish I did all this earlier haha! Thanks in advance for any advice

Mechanical and Technical Made some custom window cranks.

I used new classic car vent window cranks. Removed the handle and installed the skateboard wheels.

They fit on the stick gear shaft (probably wrong term here), I did have to bore the entry on the handles them selves because the back of the shaft has a bigger diameter than the gear end.

Mechanical and Technical Where is my refrigerant sight glass?

Thumbnail

Trying to diagnose why my AC is only blowing really cold air when I seem to be driving forward before I take it to a shop. It might be the cooler fan on the radiator, but it also might just be low refrigerant. I checked the manual for my 99 DB52T and got a bit confused.

Picture 1: My manual shows me what a sight glass should look like to watch the refrigerant as it flows through the system while my AC is running and what a "proper" amount of bubbles should be.

Picture 2: The exploded view of my AC system. I don't actually see anything in this diagram that even remotely looks like what the sight glass picture looked like.

Pictures 3 and 4: Pictures under my hood, near the radiator cap. I see the high and low side refrigerant vacuum charger ports because they're a bright blue "H" and "L" cap, so that's where the manifold would go if I get someone to recharge it, but I can't seem to find anything that looks like a sight glass.

AC and HVAC are something I'm not willing to fuck with, but I would still like to self diagnose it a little before taking it to a shop, to give the tech something to go off of.

EDIT: Solved. It’s to the right of the driver’s side headlight when looking at the front of the truck.

Mechanical and Technical Question about measurements of Kei trucks

I have a genuine question about the Suzuki Carry DD51T. What are the measurements for the rims? Is it 12 inches or 15? I’m trying to look into accessories for the day I can buy my Kei truck, but I have no idea what the sizes for them are?

List of questions:
Rim size?
How much can a Kei truck be lifted?
Steering wheel size?
Are there seat covers for Kei trucks?
What are the recommended seat covers for Kei trucks?
Where is the best place to buy accessories for Kei trucks?
Are there pink things to add onto Kei trucks or do I have to buy plain colors like black?

I don’t know if I’ll have more questions, but those are the most I can think of. I just wanna know if Kei trucks can be made kinda cutesy since I want a soft green and pink mix for when I get a truck.

Hello all. My wife and I have recently gotten a Subaru Sambar Classic truck. I'm installing a tachometer and want to put it in the dash area, but we don't want to cover anything important. Besides the seat belt indicator, would I be covering anything vital? Thank you for your input.

Took me 4 weeks and a lot of frustration, but I got the cab stripped down to metal, cleaned, painted and all new sound deadening installed. Then cleaned and painted the trim pieces, and reinstalled all of them. Is it perfect, no. But I’m happy with it. Now on to the exterior paint.
