Discussion Help me not give up with [KCD1] (PS5)

Hey guys

I feel like a NOOB and loser posting this. I always play RPGs and consider myself ok at them. I mean I have completed all the souls game so I got patience etc

But I just suck balls at KCD. I am playing KCD1 first just for the story as I actually wanted to play KCD2

But I litterally cannot kill anything

I am just focusing on the main story for the purpose of it so I can then start KCD2

I am stuck at the bandit/cumen battle and my army just keeps dying. I got up to the part of they battle at the church but my men just die from there

The only usefullness I can provide is cheap shotting soldiers when they have their back towards me fighting another soldier

I did read that I should of done more training and level up that way but I thought I would level up naturally going through the main story

I did see if I can reload a previous save but on my PS5 it seems there is just 1 save and its during the battle

If I cannot pass this battle am I screwed?

Suggestion [other] why doesn't Jindřich's father legitimize him?

In the middle ages, and today, there is a legal concept of legitimization of bastards. If you have a known bastard child, you can go through this process and they will carry the surname and be eligible for inheritance. Depending on the local law, current church attitudes, time, and situation.

My question is, after allllll the thing's jindřich has done, basically becoming some legendary herculean knight that magically does literally everything anybody needs and is basically famous... he still is not either bestowed nobility or knighthood, or legitimized as Racek Kobyla's son.

It's kinda bizarre as he is involved in his father's life, works for him, and after everything he is done, he is still snubbed of recognition.

I suppose it may be hard to pursue legitimization by this point as it typically requires the parents to marry after the child's birth, which then legally can make the child considered no longer a bastard.

In many nation's laws during the late middle ages, it became commonplace for the father of a bastard to be heavily pushed to take responsibility and if he isnt neccesarily involved in his child's life, he basically was expected to pay child support, in late medieval England, for instance.

Now I'm no expert on the law of the holy roman empire of the german nation, or the kingdom of bohemia, and this concept is one that is somewhat obscure as it tended to be rare and situational, with government and church being very reluctant to legitimize bastards or allow divorces even when not doing so was unethical or threatened the entire political stability of a nation (see lothaire II of Lorraine/Lotharinigia)

If he cannot be legitimized, then he should be given his own title and thereby form his own house. Maybe that can be a plot point in the third game, alongside the hussite wars?? I dont know...

It just seems strange to me that this guy who is de facto a knight and de facto a nobleman, and who can become a burgher by player choice if you purchase the forge, is treated nonetheless as if he is just a peasant villager in a nobleman's employ.

It is strange to me. I'm sure it's partially for gameplay and plot purposes, it is easier to have him he able to wander around and be put in situations and ordered around, if he doesnt have the responsibility of being a lord of some castle or whatever. (But i dont even think he needs to do that, just have him be like Knighted as "Heinrich von Skalitz") and he can simply be a minor lord working with the lords of leipa anyways.

Just a thought i kept having, as it automatically raises his societal station to be acknowleged as the son of Kobyla than if he was simply the son of Martin.

(Also I use their native names, it bothers me that warhorse chooses to use english and german names instead of their czech names for czech characters. I get it for ethnically german people, like Otto Von Bergow, but it should be written and spoken in the english dub and captions as Jindřich ze Skalic in my opinion as it is literally his name... yknow? A personal article. I get it if youre reading a historical chronical, so you'll say wenceslas or wenzel instead of vaclav, but when it's essentially you talking to someone's face, and they tell you their name is Henryk Poznański and you instead call them Heinrich von Posen because you're german, then that's just disrespectful)

Discussion [KCD2] there should have been some permanent debuffs after REDACTED captures you

i'm sure something similar has been said before but, after Von Bergow and co. reveal the Finger of God, there should have been some permanent debuffs added depending on your dialogue choices, to mimic the actual stress of being tortured.

as the player, i can just say what i want because to me, there's no long-lasting consequence. thankfully i don't know what it's like to be tortured lol (and i hope none of you do either), but i imagine there are some long-lasting effects and PTSD. it would have been interesting if, alongside the temporary debuffs, there were some permanent ones to mimic this. nothing serious, just something that affects you early on but can be negated the more you play (similar to most hardcore debuffs). like losing a few skillpoints or stat levels to set Henry back a little, or adding a whole new debuff based on your dialogue choices. the more you evade and the more Henry get tortured, the more consequence in the form of debuffs there are. and said debuffs should be made visible to the player right after you choose the dialogue in question. i would understand if this was only present in hardcore mode (which i'm playing through rn). at the very least, Henry should have some scars or something.

lol i may be a minority in feeling this because, i didn't really have a hard time with this mission in particular (had a miserable time elsewhere though dw this game properly kicked my ass in my first playthrough). maybe it's because i did plenty of quests my first time round and was at a reasonably high level. but afaik loads of other people didn't like this section, and this may ruffle a few feathers lol. regardless, would love to know what you all think!

edit to say: one of the reasons i like this game is because i think it does an incredible job showing the grittiness of war, i feel that this is just another part of that. this section was a hard watch, and it'd be nice if he didn't just spring into action like nothing ever happened right after. the latter completely negated the former.

Rant [KCD2] After finishing “For Whom The Bell Tolls” I am genuinely terrified of the main story/quest line. Spoiler

This game is great and literally the only thing holding it back is the main quest lines, I see now why some of my friends quit when they got to this quest.

I really hope the devs make some changes so that you can just let Hans Capon die.
Fuck it, let Henry explain.

That was physically exhausting and now I gotta take a shower.

And by doing a little research the only way you can even finish the quest is by breaking Thomas out of his fever?

I wasted about ~3 hours wandering around in that fucking castle, the most ironic part is how the Chamberlain made a joke about the castle being a maze.

I wanted to fucking punch that dude so hard.

Hans Capon can go eat a fucking wagon full of cocks too.

Literally everything is a blast tho, probably not touching the main story for awhile now until I run out of stuff to do.

The side quests are the best part of the game, I really enjoy returning to different people and getting additional conversations, rewards and more quests.

I notice that sometimes when I fail and reload that there will be different interactions and there can be a lot of ways to solve a quest which makes it fun.

But the main quests suck ass, they don’t have the same flexibility as the side quests and they have a lot of boring walking around and just interacting with NPC’s.

Hope they change that.

I know it’s a naive thought but man, game would be so much more enjoyable.

Thinking about For Whom the Bell Tolls gives me a headache now.

I’d take falling off my horse surrounded by wolves, 1,000 fucking times over that quest even one more time.

Rant [KCD1] This game really sucks at informing timed quests

I didn't know that you can save Reeky if you go to him fast enough[Main Quest]

I delayed going to Leshek and that scoudrel zmola kills him and I can't do shit about the injustice [House of God]

This game requires a bit of grind so I can't complete the quests right after the other.

I always play to get the best possible happy ending even if it means a bit of spoilers.

I can't even go back since it removes my progress in leveling up my other stats and saving here is also resource and time expensive😑

Discussion Henry’s story shouldn’t (and doesn’t need to) end with [KCD2] Spoiler

It seems to me that the common consensus is that while it would be nice to see more of Henry in further games of this IP, it would not be very likely. People often site Radzig saying that “This really is the end”, the conclusion of Henry’s natural arc, and the fact that Henry shouldn’t become too famous, since he is not mentioned in real history. I however do not see these as real obstacles to further Henry.

It is true that KCDII does see the natural end to Henry's revenge arc. For me at least, him settling in Skalitz to help rebuild it as he did with Pribyslavitz, and start a family, seems like a perfect ending to the story, and a fate that Henry truly deserves. However, this does not mean that further arcs are not possible, or even fitting.

I saw someone saying that KCDI was about Henrys journey to become a warrior, and KCDII about his journey from a warrior to a hero, who learns to take responsibility for his actions. Henry learns that it’s not just about whether you can kill or beat someone. Like Martin says, you might win a fight with violence, but you’ll never win an argument.

In this manner, KCDIII (Or Kingdom Come Salvation?) could cover, for example, his transformation to a leader. He learned to take responsibility for his actions, here he learns about being responsible for others.

I do not think that Henry, having resettled in Skalitz, would take up the sword again just for fun. There would have to be some catalyst, a call to action. This could be, for example him hearing that something has happened to Radzig or Hans. I even had an idea that Henry’s child, having heard of their fathers’ adventures, feels the need to do something, and runs away to help, forcing Henry to go after them. This in my mind would go perfectly together with the theme of learning to take responsibility for others as a leader or a father figure.

As for the historicity question, not much can be said. In the worst case scenario, it would require a mild suspension of disbelief. But even so, there really would be many characters in these conflicts that we know nothing of. Bernard of Oleshna and his family aren’t historical, yet he plays an important, prestigious part. And as the entry for Zizka also says, we really don’t have that much information even about the barons and many higher lords of that time. Even Markvart is barely mentioned in history, and he was literally the governor of Prague. I cannot believe that historicity would be a major problem.

Gameplay-wise, I would really enjoy that aspect of getting the power to command. This has historically been very hard to implement in games like this, but we did see a little bit of it with the siege at the end of KCDII. Making decisions for you men, who, when and what etc, and dealing with the consequences.

All in all, I would love to see Henry's story continue, and do not see any reason why not. Bring him back!

Discussion [KCD2] Why can I not get into this game????

Firstly, I played the first game when it came out. Over 200 hours, completed pretty much everything, did all the dlcs, maxed out Henry so he was a ridiculous killing machine, loved exploring, loved the medieval realism, game of the year for me.

I've only just started KCD2 and I guess I've changed more than I thought in the several years since the first one.

I'm struggling through the early stages of the game.

The dialogue feels so lame and there's so much of it (and so much of it repeats itself)

The characters are fine but feel wooden when they move, like puppets. I suppose the first game must have been the same but I've noticed it here. Their dead eyes, stuck faces and awkward movements feel quite outdated.

The pace is so slow. I want to get to exploring and actually playing the game but I feel like I'm going from one stilted conversation to the next.

I do remember being frustrated by the first game at first, although this had more to do with the rubbish state of the game when it released.

At what point does the game stop leading you by the hand and let you do what you want? Because I'm seriously pulling my hair out having to go through all these basic tutorials, several recaps, stilted dialogue and contrived plot points.

(deep sigh) rant over, I feel a bit better.

Discussion Do you think, the game force you to just use master strike? Should the dev think a way to improve the combat? [KCD1]

Another thing that didn’t help the situation was the way combat in this game works.
9 out of 10 times you are forced to spam master strike, because you are outnumbered by the enemies, which sucks, because why have I spent time maxing out different weapon skills and unlocking combos if I’m, in a way, forced to spam same old boring thing time and time again.

This is from a post of another user and i agree. There are multiple combos really interesting. for example my favourite is that one where you push ur opponent on the ground and there, you can strike him multiple times without him being able to parry

But no matter how you look at it, the enemy will be able to master strike you a lot of times and make you lose health. so using a combo feels the worst choice both for 1 vs 1 and also for multiple enemies, because the moment you try a combo, someone from the side is hitting you

To be able to win any fight wth 100% hp, you have just to master strike or push him away and in that brief window, hit him in the head to trigger the passive and knock him out cold

Also another thing is to stay on ur horse, run away enough to bring to you just 1 guy where the other npc goes back to their starting position because you are too far away, and pick them 1 by 1. But doing this feels like cheating. because you know how their programmed behaviour is.

so to maximize the outcome with the max hp possible, is to do all the things i already stated but this really destroy the magic of the combat.

I mean, during the rattay tournament, or when you are facing 1 vs 1, you can accept being master striked. sometimes i do some really good choreographed fight: i slash, he dodge and attack, i dodge and attack, he master strikes, he attack, i master strike, i attack, he dodge. i attack, he parry = i continue the combo. feels nice. i accept losing a little bit of hp while fighting 1 vs 1 to make the game feels real

but vs multiple enemies you are forced to do just 2 things: master strike and run away.

but i think this removes all the magic from the game.

what do you think?

Question [KCD2] how do i do combos.

Ive looked at everything NOTHING WORKS. the only combo i can do is right, left, right/ left, right, left.
If i do ANYTHING else the buttons just dont work, i press them but henry stands there scratching his ass. I have over 100 hours in this game.

Question Had problems with the first game. Will I like the sequel? [KCD1] [KCD2]

I love medieval settings and RPGs. I have the first game for PS5, and I enjoy it, but there are some things that just make the experience worse for me. Combat, exploring, dialogue, etc… most of it feels a bit clunky and makes the game harder than I think it was originally meant. For example, I just can’t beat Runt. It is a very unfair and clunky combat, it doesn’t matter if I have good equipment.

I know the development of the first game was very hard, so I wonder if the sequel solves a lot of those problems, because I LOVE the concept of the game.

Issue Please. I want to like [KCD2] so bad.

I bought this game not too long ago and I wanted to like it so bad. I love RPG, I love medieval themes, all of it.

When I lost two hours of progress starting this game bc it doesn’t auto save frequently and you have to manually save, I lost my shit. Everything feels like a chore. Talk talk talk talk. I’m hungry, I’m hungry. Combat? Yeah right, I might as well die.

Everyone says how amazing this game is but I am struggling. Does it get better? Should I tough it out? Do I just need to git gud?

i'm very new and very early in the game and very BROKE. i genuinely cant do anything, i'm poisoned up, beat up from robbing (lol) low on health low on food. if i try to fast travel i die during the travel. if i walk anywhere i can get pretty far but its midnight and everything is closed cant buy anything from merchants to heal me, already that i dont even know where to get the heals from do i have to cook it up my self (alchemy) or wtv? i don't understand how i dont have food that gives me health, only nourishment. and if i wait for morning i will die. i will probably have to spend 2-3 hours in the game doing fuck all until the sun rises lol. HELP! also can't sleep to past the time or heal myself cause my energy is full LOL!

edit: i would still like advice to avoid this. but im gonna restart the entire game, i skipped some tutorials lol. i've played skyrim but ive always turned off the option where u wont die from hunger or energy or wtv. but i don't wanna do that with this game. i mean there aint even the option right?

Discussion Anyone playing for the first time, do yourself a favor and grind Stealth before you start For Victory.[KCD2] Spoiler

I remember my first time playing trough Storm. It was a living nightmare. Not only was I overencumbered, because I couldn't kwwp my mits off all the juicy loot in the previous two missions, but my fighting capablilities were horrible and my stealth wasn't touched at all. The castle part wasn't so bad, but sneaking around Appolonia, phew.

I must have spent 6 hours trying, and failing to sneak past all this patrols. Everywhere I went I would get detected immedietely. I had to restart so many times.

So it should come as no surprise that, this time around, I was utterly dreading that quest. But this time around I was grinding my stealth and was at 18 when I got there. I also scoured the whole castle for the stealthiest clothes I could find, and my strength stat was nearly maxed out so I could carry away most of the juicy loot I found at the castle.

As a result my second time with this mission was incomparably easier, I only had to reload twice, once when I failed to kill the guard that was guarding Mika. Another time when I was going trough the narrow passage where you need to get rid of the guard and hide his body before 2 patrolmen come out from behind, I didn't notice the patrolmen first time around.

Other than that it all went super smoothly. I will say that you have to commit to either stealth or a bloodbath here. Fortunately the one time I had to fight a guard my combat was so high I was able to take him down even without armor.

Can’t lie, after the way Henry’s been treated up to the point where you’re finally let loose in the village before Trosky, I’m tempted to just take all that rage out on the world and do some completely unhinged shit. Capon and that woman I saved by the pond especially pissed me off. Who treats other people like that?

Discussion [KCD1] Experiencing heavy burn out with KCD 1, but want to try out KCD 2. Long post

I started playing this game in mid march of this year, and it instantly captivated me. After the first couple of missions, I spent 25 hours straight, upgrading my lock picking and to a lesser extent stealth skills.

Mission after mission I started having so much fun with this game, that I started using a guide so not to lock myself out of missable quests/missions. Between playing main story missions, I would do every single side quest and activity I could. But after some time, and heaps of boring fetch side quests, and activities I stared feeling burnt out.

At the point of quitting (which was around late May), I reached 75% of game progress. I also finished 2 out of the 4 DLCs (A woman’s Lot and From the Ashes), and reached the point in the main story where Henry joins the monastery in order to find out who the bandit in there is.

Last month I decided to give the game another try and finish it, since I wanted to try out KCD 2 as well.
But I don’t know if it’s the burn out or that particular monastery segment being so boring, I just couldn’t play it for more than 15-20 mins and ended up putting it down again.

I know that I may have done too much with this game, seeing that I put 113 hours into it in a month and a half, and I’ll be honest and say that the vast majority of side quests are garbage.
I used to look forward to playing the next main story mission and advancing Henry’s quest for redemption, but this particular monastery section is so boring that it makes me not want to finish the game at all.

I would also want to know if the combat and side content in the second game have gotten improved compared to the first.

Question [KCD2] Help with deciding if I should play KCD1 first?

Upvotes

I’ve started KCD 2 on the ps5 pro and only about 9 hours in ( I haven’t even gone to the wedding at the start but I’ve started doing quests)
I also have KCD1 but didn’t play it because couldn’t enjoy the ‘muddy’ graphics. I played a bit of it and really enjoyed the dialogues and story but the mechanics and graphics were off putting.
Do you suggest I go back and play it first?
It seems everyone who finishes KCD2 goes back to play KCD 1 eventually, anyway.

EDIT: I sort of know the main story because I made the mistake of seeing the KCD1 recap before starting KCD2

I swear, I had to fight this asshole of a noble for helping Betty to preserve her bath house. But this noble wanted me to fight with no plate armor and only with a hunter sword. So I had to go back to Kuttenberg to buy a hunter sword but he told me this sword is not allowed in the duel. So I went back again but he told me the same thing again. Let just says I crashed out and slowly put on my high quality armor and my best longsword. I then brutaly killed him without effort and failed the quest but it was so satisfying. I dont know if it was a bug but the only lord I allows to be a jerk with me is lord Capon and no one else.

Discussion My current state with the series [OTHER] Spoiler

First of all, I love both games.

Back when KCD1 was released, I purchased the Royal Edition on disk for PS4, played 40 hours, and thought it was too hard for me and would not complete it.

Years later, after a trial of KCD2 on PS5, I was so hooked; the game was already going cheaper, so I bought it. For months, I was stuck at the quest to save Capon from that castle and did gave up trying when I later sold my PS5 console.

Thanks to a thread here from a few days ago, I decided to give KCD1 another go, and I have been hooked again and already clocked 20 hours.

Now, I have a question. Currently, I have a PS4 and PS Portal with PS Premium. I own the PS4 Royal Edition on disc, and I can use a friend's PS5 console to log in and upgrade the game to the PS5 version, then continue playing on the Portal because I will be away from my console in the next 10-15 days. Considering that there is already a free-to-play version for PS+ subscribers, I am not sure whether I will be able to play the DLCs on the Portal.

Does anyone else have the same case?
