Not-my-UFO pattern search
A few years ago, I inherited a lot of yarn from a family friend who lost her battle with a very aggressive cancer. She was an incredible and prolific fiber artist; I can only hope to be half as good as her in my lifetime, and I’ve been knitting since I was 5 (mid-30s now). Several of the yarns I received are already knit into UFOs, and this is the only one that didn’t have a pattern with it. It’s also one of only two that I cannot bear to frog. The stitch-work is too beautiful and even. I would love to be able to finish this garment as intended. I’ll share as much as I know:
- yarn is Tahki Chelsea Silk, which is labeled as an Aran-weight on Ravelry
- the pieces I have are the back and half of two sleeves, so this could be a cardigan or a pullover
- the pattern is knit bottom-up and seamed
- I suspect this will be a printed pattern, or one in a book, magazine, or pamphlet
- the other project that I cannot bear to frog, which is a stunning cabled cardigan, is a Penny Straker pattern
- this friend also had a collection of books and magazines from Japan, so there’s a chance this pattern is in one of them (I still have to go through them all)
- my partner already tried a Google image search, Gemini, and Claude, and got nothing
Any help is appreciated! I will be continuing to search on my own, but that could take me years! There are so many patterns!

Oh my god, wait! This might be it! It’s definitely the closest I’ve seen so far! Does this site really just let me ‘buy’ the pattern for free? Thank you so so so much, this is amazing!!!!

Oh dang, that is REALLY close! Thank you! That one did not come up when I was looking. I think I need to turn off my ‘bottom-up’ filter.

I took your photo cropped it a bit then ran it through perplexity. From there I clicked on each suggestion. I wonder if they made up the pattern. If so I’d suggest finding something similar and continuing the sleeves. With some knitting reading you should be able to figure out the sleeve increases. When you think they’re long enough lifeline the live stitches. Sew the sleeves to make sure they’ll fit.
You can also do the same for the back panel1

This is absolutely stunning!!! I don’t usually bother but I’ll do a little researching to see if I can find the pattern. Part of the challenge is not knowing if it’s a pullover or a cardigan which opens up the possibilities.
Before I search I will say that for some knitters it is absolutely possible to recreate the cable motifs and be able to improvise the rest of the sweater since the construction is pretty clear from the pieces that are made. Could be worth looking into if you can’t find the actual pattern!
