How can i continue learning arabic?

What’s the best way to learn Arabic? I need some tips.

I’ve already taken a course where I learned the alphabet and a few basics, like pronouns and so on. Now that the course is over, I want to continue learning arabic from home. I’d like to learn Arabic—specifically the Syrian dialect, if possible. My husband is a native speaker, but unfortunately, he’s a terrible teacher. 😅

What would you recommend? I’ve tried Duolingo and Busuu, but they haven’t really helped me at all.

I’m not sure if it’s better to just start by learning individual words. Busuu teaches whole sentences, but they often include difficult new words that I just can’t seem to memorize. I really just want to learn Arabic so I can communicate with my husband’s family.

I understand only a little when we visit them.

I'm Palestinian/American and I was always sad that I was never taught Arabic. If anyone has any leads on this, I would really appreciate the help!

I would really like to learn in person, but if there is a teacher who feels strongly that they could help me I would be open to discussion. I learned some Fusha in school, a little bit of Levantine from my dad and family, and some Khaleeji slang from my friends growing up, so I might be a bit challenging as a student.

Hi. Lately there's been an idea wandering my mind since I rediscovered the Arabic language. To make things short I discovered it months ago and rediscovered it last week and fell even more in love that I had fallen previously on its grammar and sound and everything.

The question of this post comes mainly from the languages I bear and if Arabic would be a good idea or should I abandon it. I speak Spanish as a native, english, french and the basis of german. Currently I'm pouring my efforts on achieving the B2 in french and when done focus on german to master it. Everything was going well but Arabic stepped in and... I love it as well.

I love languages and wonder if adding this one would be as useful as maintaining the other 4 fluent by different output techniques.

The other thing that concerns me (as far as I've read) is learning fusha, fusha+dialect or simply a dialect. Due to being next to the north coast of Africa I've considered magreb dialect but it's also not as understood by other Arabic dialects unless fusha comes in. Besides that I don't know for what else Fusha could be useful for me.

Don't know if leave it or wait until having enough time to learn it well and surpass the initial barrier if grammar and its alphabet (great, picturesque and marvelous btw) or simply drop it if my combination of languages is enough, tho I'd miss Arabic I guess.

I thought I’d chuck this in here and see what people think. I’ve been building a platform called Lulu to help children and adults improve their Arabic reading. The idea is that you read a story out loud, and Lulu listens and gives feedback on pronunciation, difficult letters, words and eventually things like incorrect harakat. It will also have a library of Arabic books organised by reading level and track what you struggle with over time. I started building it because I felt there wasn’t really an Arabic equivalent of the reading apps available for English learners. Would this be something you or your kids would actually use? What do you guys think?

i’ve been wanting to learn arabic for a while since i’ve got many north africans and arabic friends and i find it such a fascinating language.
i tried a while ago with duolingo but as you can guess i learnt nothing since the app is awful. do you have any suggestions on any apps or sites i could use, possibly free?

Hello, I have been learning Arabic all my life. ive only learnt it at school as none of my family speaks it. I was born in Lebanon then moved to jordan and bow study in Switzerland. In Switzerland I studied classic arabic I don’t know my level though. As it’s my final year of high school I had to stop studying it (breaks my heart because I love my teacher). I still do an effort of reading texts, listening to music watching movies and interacting with people (aka buying my shawarma)

im an art student and will be using Arabic words in my pieces too so I was wondering what else I can do so that I don’t lose this beautiful language? I was a very lazy kid and never payed much attention to actually studying it. I regret that a lot. I’ve heard of Kalaam but don’t quite understand it yet.

do you have any recommendations or tips for what to do?

As salamu alaykum for those who are actively studying al arabiyyatu bayni yadayk books they have 4 apps that use all vocabulary words and sentences with translation on Google Play store it is called aby1 , aby2 , aby3 and aby4 it also has audio that reads it to you as well I believe the first 2 apps where free and I paid a few dollars for the other 2 they are very beneficial especially if you are already in a Arabic learning curriculum I find using them with reading picture dictionarys very helpful and also watching news , lectures and cartoons on sling or mbc Shahid immersion into the Arabic language as much as possible is very helpful I also highly recommend Markaz al Furqan center online in Egypt for those who need online classes each level is 25 -30 hours each level takes about 30 days a test at the end of each level to progress and there are 15 levels depending how many days and hours you do a week will depend how quickly you progress I do 5 days a week with a hour of class each day and I see a huge amount of progress in such short time I just wanted to help those who are looking to learn Barakh Allah feekum

Hello. I am a teenager who has been learning Levantine Arabic on Mango languages for around a year and a half. I am coming to the end of the course, and I was wondering what I can do next to improve my Levantine Arabic past that point. I want to be fluent in a few years time, and I’ve been listening to lots of Levantine Arabic on YouTube, but I don’t know anyone to practice with in real life. I would like to know if there are any more online resources or courses to do. Also, once I’m done with the mango languages, I’d like to improve my MSA, so if anyone could recommend a beginners MSA course that would be helpful. :)

I'm from Barcelona and I will start learning MSA Arabic towards the CIMA A2/B1 like Certificate.

It will be very strange to introduce myself as Yusuf, بَلُّوط (Ballūṭ) or سِنْدِيَان (Sindiyān) in countries of the Arab World being a Westerner? (Specially Morocco or Jordan).

-Is it seen as polite that a Westerner uses his or her name in Arabic? Mine will be Yusuf.
I have a very common name in Spanish.

That means nobody calls me by my name.

Instead, everybody calls me by my surname. It means in Arabic بَلُّوط (Ballūṭ) or سِنْدِيَان (Sindiyān). It's the name of a tree called Oak.

Since my surname in Spanish it can be strange to pronounce in Arabic or English because it's very similar to "Siruk" in Arabic (Circus) and I don't like it I ask for help about this topic.

Should I translate my name or use a translation of my surname to Arabic, or just introduce myself as usual in Spanish?

Hi all! I decided to stop putting it off and start learning, little by little.
I know Arabic fluency and professionally is considered one of the hardest for native English speakers but I’m not necessarily trying to be fluent.
My goals I’m working towards is in anti war work. I want to write about SA women face in war, and in this I want to speak to women who live or lived in war zones.
for the interview of course I would use a translator, but I don’t want to bumble though an Arabic speaking country looking like an idiot. I want to be able to “get by” meaning maybe even my conversational is choppy and imperfect grammar but I can be understood, and if someone speaks slow and basic i can understand.

i know it’s not super ambitious but I’m hoping to do this with ante a few languages as this project is kinda my magnum opus and will take several years if not decades.

I guess I’m just wondering what realistically I’m looking at :)

What Im looking for is an accelerated textbook to brushen up my Arabic fundamentals again mainly grammar and vocab from beginner to intermediate. Which resources would you suggest for this purpose?

For those that care, I'll tell you how to get to intermediate

1. Alarabiyyah bayna yadayk

2. Madinah Books

3. Reading Qur'an but with proper tajweed (I recommend listening to Husary)

4. Speaking with Arabs especially those that are strong in MSA. (This is the most important because your now applying everything you've learnt.)

Apps are fun but language is a pain in the ass to learn. Once you accept that and get comfortable with the suffering, you'll start picking it up really fast.

Also it doesn't hurt to have a good tutor. Try to find yourself an egyptian teacher who's passionate about msa. I'm pretty sure the market value of a class is about 5 usd/hr so if you can find one for that price you'll be good. Plus most Egyptians I've met are hilarious.

I am one of those people who have memorized the Quran but don't understand it, which is something I want to change.

What are beginner friendly books of Arabic which teach Arabic for Quran understand and through Quran.
