Need Advice loneliness in homophobic countries
I'm iraqi, one of the most homophobic and misogynistic societies in the world (not that it's a competition) but I'm a bisexual woman, I've been struggling with conflicting emotions regarding relationships, on one hand i want to cut all the homophobic people off which is... everyone, on the other hand i truly care and yearn for some of these people.. but how can you long for people who'd want you dead? idk maybe because I'm still young but yeah... especially my cousins, I'm the eldest and i watched everyone grow and some of them used to look up to me and try to impress me and shit but now we just see each other in family gatherings and barely talk (covid also played a part in this), I'm also the cousin who doesn't keep in touch and doesn't text anyone for reasons mentioned, I wish i can be there for them and see what they're interested in now and all of that but I've seen how they talk about lgbtq.. i can't simply "educate them" cause rhat means I'd be at risk of getting exposed and maybe even violated or worse because in iraq this happens all the time so I'm not risking my chances, it's a very lonely place to be.... and every time people talk about the future i just can't see myself with them even tho I don't see myself anywhere, I'm 22 and i fear this loneliness is going to affect how i interact with the world. At uni i have friends and I'm known as a very honest person but they still don't know I'm queer and i have this wall between me and everyone, I'm never too close to anyone but i did confide in them in some of my issues (they're also raging homophobes). I don't know what to do? i want to experience life and have friends but i also want to respect myself and stay away from people who think people like me deserve to not exist (one of my favourite friends once drew a pic of a "femboy gore (he deserves it because he's gay)" i was so shocked that this intensity could come from her but also not entirely surprised.. so guys.. do you have advice on how to set boundaries in cases like this or how to not let people have access to me without being miserable?? uni is very difficult i need some people to not drown in the pressure.
by the way my uni is religious lol I'm so fcked
