Recommendation: asking Book Request
Howdy. Looking for a recommendation. Soon to finish book 4 of 1% life steak and have really been enjoying the story. Anyways I'm looking for something similar or at least a story where the MC is getting powerful but has to keep secrets and is constantly teetering on the edge, interacting with powerful people who could crush him will also managing to survive through whatever means. I enjoy stories where there is a good side character that eventually learns the MCs secrets. I enjoy navigating political structures but also like unique situations and real stakes at least to those around the MC lol. Another series I enjoyed but haven't read the last book and heard there was some hiatus was the Beastborne series. Anyways any recommendations would be much appreciated.

1% lifesteal was my start with prpg fantasy and lit rpgs.
I'd recommend Chrysalis next. Not as intense as 1% can be, but it still keeps me up listening through the night. It has an intesesting progression system, and later on develops into progression politics, similar to what starts happening in 1% book 4.
Dungeon crawler carl also has the dark hoplessness, political theatre, and dealing with more powerful people.

Divine Throne of Primordial Blood comes to mind. MC is powerful for his realm, but has to hide his existence and knowledge somewhat due to his unique cultivation technique in a world, where cultivation is done one beaten way only. I do not remember that well, but I think usually people needed bloodlines to advance and most if not all of non noble or connected people had no chance do ever advance past some early realm. MC is a pure blooded human with no beast bloodline who invents a way to cultivate with his own pure bloodline. This in turn causes a lot of people (mostly nobles / big sects) to be rather upset over their leash on society getting slippery more and more as the MC releases his techniques anonymously. It is translated cultivation story, but translation is one of the best you're gonna get in any kind of translated work with consistent naming throughout (at least to my memory).
Edit: If you need a story in more particular direction, then let me know. I've got a few others if cultivation is not for you.

Its more on the side of the video game lit rpgs but A Class Threat is amazing and rides that line. It gets weird towards the end but till book 8 or 9 its peak for that side of lit rpgs
