The second book of my ecchi isekai parody saga has come out! Gotta say, this one took a lot longer than I expected, but I´m glad it´s finally out and about.

A bit of a disclaimer thought: it´s more of a parody isekai than a conventional litrpg, although I do have a more typical litrpg protagonist in the book as a rival/secondary antagonist for my MC to act as a foil for her. Since my beta readers loved the guy, I decided to try my luck here as well to see if you guys also like him.

Few things:

1. Every single book in"DNF Later" is there because i felt like reading the story became a slog after the 8th or 9th book
2. Path of ascension was a good series up until they actually finished ascending after which that too got tedious(I'm just not counting it because otherwise it is pretty good)
3. The book on the bottom with the longass title I left because it seemed to be very AI written to me. I loved the plot, the system and the idea behind the book but the character seem to have know personality whatsoever and whatever little personality they exhibit, changes in the span of 2 pages

Book: Dungeon Slayer

Start with the good stuff: The story is good, I can see the potential and I love it. MC is a teen so his self pity parties make sense as well as his tendencies to make extremely stupid decisions. But, he follows through with each step, even if it nearly kills him.

My issues: the dude is a mage who hates using magic. He wants to be fast and strong but doesn't have the stat points yet to be that and he is so stupid. Like, the kid needs to drop stats into intelligence. He has an AOE attack (targets random opponent ever second for a small amount of damage) but decides he wants to fight metal cockroaches with razor pinchers and soccer ball sized eyes hand to hand. The only magic he seems to like using is fire wall which effects things in it but the wall doesn't move! Another point is that the book gives off Solo Leveling vibes like nothing else.

Anyway, has anyone else read/listened to this book? Does he get smarter? Or does he continue down the meathead path? I want to finish it but i do not want to waste time on a brainless meat head

It began (at least, I think it did) with the end of a dream, in which I held a sword aloft in challenge. A sword, of all things.

It ended with the arrival of a headache of a kind with which I was becoming disconcertingly familiar. At my age, waking up hungover after yet another evening in a tavern was not what I had planned for my life.

Yesterday had been… odd.

Then… things happened.

There were ancient ruins, built and razed centuries before my birth. An ordinary helping of monsters and dangers. There was gold, a scattering of gems, and one particularly magnificent Relic.

Just curious where everyone’s fav spot to listen is. I love sim racing and these books make it soooooo much better:)

Ive always loved writing. In highschool i took creative writing mostly horror and fantasy. And ive written a few times since even winning second place in a contest.

I get some down time at work which id love to use to write but my supervisor is a bug stickler for phone use. But when i get home im just too tired and out of energy to write so i fall back on video games or watching movies.

I dont sleep well either due to some issues but i try to be efficemt with sleep thats very rough though

Id love to be able to sneakily write at work but thats just not possible. Ive got ideas i want to get out but lack the time and energy.

I keep running into magic and LitRPG systems with a supposedly severe cost: lifespan, permanent stat loss, pain, corruption, memory, or some resource that cannot be replaced. On the character sheet it looks brutal. In practice, the cost often disappears between fights and the surrounding society behaves as if it does not exist.

The versions that stick with me are the ones where the cost creates institutions. Lifespan magic should produce triage laws, wealthy patrons buying other peoples years, and professions built around avoiding casts. Permanent stat loss should change who gets drafted, how veterans are treated, and whether dangerous skills are regulated. Memory costs should reshape recordkeeping, testimony, relationships, and who society trusts with important knowledge.

At that point the cost stops being a high-stakes tax on the protagonist and becomes part of the setting. It also closes the loophole where the MC is somehow the only person who takes the rules seriously.

What is the best example you have seen of a system cost changing the whole world around it? Or what cost sounds severe on paper but almost never gets followed through?

So, I've read a decent amount of litrpg/progression fantasy, and although fractals seem to crop up somewhat often, they tend not to be anywhere near as prevalent as in DotF. When a cultivation technique or similar is described as a fractal (which tends to be the main use of fractals in other books), it is fairly easy to imagine as many real fractals are somewhat spirally (eg dragon curve)

However, in DotF, so many things are fractals (fractal blades, fractal skills, etc). So, what am I meant to imagine here? A real fractal that is just cropped into a blade shape doesn't seem right, but neither does a blade made of smaller blades. Does anyone have a good mental model for these? I'm enjoying the series, but it keeps breaking my immersion when I try to imagine fight scenes and how the skills actually look.

So I normally just read on Royal Road or listen on audible. I'm a big fan of the genre, but recently I discovered the magic of kindle unlimited. For like ~12 bucks a month I can get all the goodies I've had in my wishlist on audible for like forever for 'free'. I've gotta say this book was awesome. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. Who else enjoyed this one?

Wanted to recommend this book. I haven't seen a lot about it and I honestly only read it because it was free and relatively low cost. It's an Isekai Litrpg. Trigger warning ⚠️ has some very early on concepts about suicide⚠️

So if that is a non starter for someone I understand and be advised before recommending to a fellow Adventurer who may be struggling. Once past that it becomes a pretty damn good Dungeon Delving Litrpg with 2 characters who swear to avoid each other at first meeting but then become best of friends. Very cool power up progression where MC goes from below average with obvious potential to pretty much OP by the end of the 4th book. A main antagonist who is complex because he's a national hero but also a maniacal tyrant with motives that are unclear. The biggest detriment to this is the AI narrator but with PR Ramos just starting I doubt he can afford Jeff Hays or someone else to narrate for him. Either way, surprisingly good. I originally was going to use it to fill a void between other series but ended up adding it to my roster.

I am only in the early parts of book 6 but I want to rant to see if my take way or but Tessa is giving me early Ryoka flashbacks. I don't know if was done with it in mind but Tessa little crusade and trying to convince or use skills to force fokes to make orders of knights just seems so ridiculous to me. Mostly due to the fact the thing she is making has been made with the numbered units and various faction forces. She talks about people going power mad and the cows are out the barn on that like ten times over. I know I am way behind the full book count. But dose anyone find her as insufferable as like that old Mod lady that I was so happy that Randidly stop tolerating after she was given the chance. Its the Apocalypse and safety kind of starts and stop with you in such a disaster. But man those two made me realize now that in such events there would be persons that actively flounder and demand help while actively dragging others down and endangering everyone. Anyhow am way off the mark due to my expectations from the citizens from all the other apocalypse where civilians falter or freeze but when they realize its a do or die kind thing happening around them they don't hamper things.

Finally getting around to listening to book 5 and I just finished the fight with Zaff the Wight in part 2. Honestly incredible. I sometimes get bored in big LitRPG fights, but this one kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time and was a great concept. This series continues to be in my top 5 and I just wanted to post some love for it here. Anyone who hasn't given it a shot yet I highly recommend it.

Looking for something to fill the void. Right now I feel it's a toss up between:

- Nightmare Realm Summoner

- 1% Lifesteal

Looking for some insight on which one I may like. My favorites so far are HWFWM, Primal Hunter, DCC, Dungeons & Dragoons, & New Realm Online series.
