The global response to covid taught me so much about society. Car usage fell, people worked from home, and the streets were clear. It taught me that we could fix a lot of this tomorrow, if those in power cared.
The push to "return to office" was for "work culture benefit" lol

Not to mention for many larger cities it was to ensure a return to propping up commercial property values and to bring folks back into the downtown areas to eat at local restaurants and shop at local stores. They seem to forget that we could the same while working from home. It really is shameful that we allow greed to dictate the way our society is run and that it is only run in a way to ensure the oligarchy maintains power and wealth.

I do remember that when I was young. What happened to us as a global society? Seriously? I am so ashamed of being from the USA and feel I must apologize for our disregard for the Paris Climate Accords.

Depleting the ozone layer is probably the closest we've come to rendering the Earth uninhabitable to all complex life. A mass extinction caused by anthropogenic climate change is bad, but life will bounce back from it with our without us in the picture. Not so much with the ozone layer. It's so crucial that it's been hypothesized that the Cambrian explosion, the mass radiation of most extant animal phyla, was only able to occur because ozone had reached a sufficient level in our atmosphere. The Montreal protocol, quite possibly, could be the salvation of all multicellular life on the planet. But these idiots, in their profound ignorance, are allowed to write it off based purely on their own lack of awareness and understanding. It's infuriating that we continue to not only suffer, but amplify the opinions of these accelerationists. They're like a death cult centered around causing a mass extinction.

And boomers have been mad about the CFC ban ever since.
I know ones that *still* bitch about it at every opportunity and the Montreal Protocol was 40 years ago.
