u/Seaweed_Legs says

''This is Pigeon who at the time of this photo was 14 weeks, she is now 9 months. This is my absolutely favorite photo of her. I am training her to use talking buttons.''

Such an absolutely gorgeous picture of a gorgeous kitty!! Thanks again to everyone who took part and do keep an eye out for a post about next month's theme!~

They grow up so fast…
ALSO: check out the single white whisker 🥹 It looked so silly when he was a kitten, it was CROOKED, then he lost it and now when it’s back it’s still not even as long as the rest

Question Toy suggestions?

My kitten is VERY smart and VERY demanding. And he gets bored easily of the rotation. Here’s some of the stuff he likes!

- small fluffy things
- carrying his catch in his mouth
- WAND TOYS. especially worm on a string style ends
- this baby like toy where ping pong balls go around on a track. He also loves this little robot ball that runs around with a fluffy tail

He gets bored easily of the robotic stuff that doesn’t have automatic turn offs within about five minutes. I have some that go for 15 and then turn off, and after a little he sits down and watches it instead of playing. He also didn’t care for this robotic plushie that flaps its wings and chirps, but he liked it when I ripped out the hard heavy part and it was just a plushie skin, lol.

I work from home but I can’t always play when he wants to. It sucks to ignore him and he can tell I’m ignoring him too. Little dude, I’m trying my best!

Question Curious about kitten size

My wife has wanted a Maine Coon for a very long time and we finally found a small breeder not too far away that had kittens available. He is absolutely adorable we've had him for a week, and even I (not the biggest cat person) love this little guy. I'm just curious if he's a good size for his age. His paperwork he came with shows that he was born May 20th so he is almost 3 and a half months old. The breeder said his dad was upwards of 25 lbs. Which sounds absolutely crazy to me someone who's only ever had normal size DSH cats, but as I've learned from my wife and from researching that's normal for Maine Coons lol. We've done a lot of research to make sure we're feeding him the right food and that we're feeding enough to make sure that he can sustain the quicker growth rate of his breed. Currently at 3.5 months he's almost half the size of our full grown DSH(aside from the fact that our DSH is a FATTY lol, I'm specifically meaning height wise) is this legitimately normal? I've included some pictures with a yardstick next to him and a 32 oz owala in hopes that you can just tell me whether or not he's a good size for his age.

Thank you in advance.

He's really really playful so it was kind of hard to get a good clear picture so I'm sorry about that.

This little idiot has woken me at 4am for the past three days. She runs around the house screaming and just being a chaos gremlin. She screams even louder when she encounters obstacles like a closed door. Yesterday, I didn’t get any peace until she finally took a nap eight hours later.

Such is the life of a MC parent. 😂

(Ft. Nice photos I got of him in the vet office..📸)

Meet Backwood! He’s my first cat and my first Maine Coon, and I’m really excited to welcome him home finally.

I’ve been doing my homework on the breed and getting everything ready for him. I know Maine Coons have their own quirks, and I’m looking forward to learning even more as I get to know his personality.

For all the experienced Maine Coon owners here: what was something about your cat that you didn’t expect when you first brought them home?

I’d love to hear your experiences with the breed and see how Backwood compares as he grows.

This is my soon to be new kitten. She is changing all the time. Any guesses what she may look like full grown? Currently she is a little over 8 weeks now.

New Owner: Advise on fur brush and butt.

My wife and I just got our Maine Coon. He’s a kitten and so fuzzy. I would love to hear people’s advises on brushes to groom the cat. I would also love to hear advice on how managing their butt so that there is no poop. Do most people just trim the back area with scissors?

Thank you in advance.

Anyone else’s MC decide that the place to play with you is their cat tree? 😄 Anytime she’s in a play mood, it’s a pretty safe bet she’ll run to the tree for play.

Grooming recs

My 10-month old Mainecoon girl is currently having trouble with fecal matter sticking to her fur. It’s been, shall we say, rather unpleasant. Does anyone in San Diego have recs for kitty groomers who can help? I live near UCSD. r/sandiego

My Maine coon girl is 14 months old.
Compared to my son’s 10 month old Maine coon, her hair is kinda short and not very fluffy. Will she keep filling out?

Question Picking up my baby in November!! Help?

Please hit me with all the tools, equipment, tips, tricks.. everything I need to know. I'm a stay at home mom and have been saving and waiting for this! All my kiddos are now in school and I have all the time to devote to this kitty. I have wanted a MC since I was little and am so excited but nervous that the same time that it's finally happening. So I want to do it right!

Right now I have already found an experienced groomer and plan on doing that once a month and daily brushes from me and what not. But what's everyone's fav brush/comb?
And other things like:

Litter boxes? (Ate the ones that spin worth it?)

Cat trees? (He will be 13 weeks when I pick him up so obviously not super tall right?)

Any other equipment you guys have and would have loved to get first thing?

It's been a while since I have had a cat, I feel out of the loop on all the knowledge and tips and tricks. I was a teenager when I worked my butt off to afford to adopt my first kitty(RIP Leo) who passed after a year and a half of fighting FeLV he got from the shelter. He was an amazing cat and I haven't felt ready for a long time opening my heart to another but I'm ready to have a fluff to give all my cuddles too and spoil.

I'm going to be researching my heart out to get ready for him! So any advice is very appreciated!

Thank you all in advance!

Question Possible HCM Death - should I let the breeder know?

Post image
49 Upvotes

Hi Folks,

Obvious TW.

We lost our sweet boy Ziggy one month shy of his 4th birthday to heart disease this past Friday. He developed a saddle thrombus and when they did an ultrasound of his heart at the emergency vet, found significant enlargement of his left atrium. It was devastating, and we made the choice to humanely euthanize.

I got Ziggy from a reputable breeder who performed genetic testing. From what I understand, breeders can’t test for every gene that can make a cat more likely to develop HCM and some cats will develop HCM without having any genetic predisposition. My question is, should I contact Ziggy‘s breeder with the news of his passing? Is this relevant/important info for them to have, or does it not matter?

Thanks everyone.

sometimes she looks like a MC, other times she looks like a crackhead 🤣

words cannot describe how much I love her, I never thought i’d find another soul cat.

some pictures of our adventures and some recent pictures or her since she is now nursing me back to health after a surgery.
