Manga artist Masami Kurumada (72), known for “Saint Seiya,” filed a lawsuit on the 2nd with the Tokyo District Court seeking a total of approximately 2.89 billion yen (USD $18 million) in damages from his manager and others, alleging that three companies—including “Kurumada Production,” of which he is president—had been victims of embezzlement.

Speaking at a press conference in Tokyo, Kurumada said, “I really couldn’t believe it.” He claims to have suffered losses totaling 4.68 billion yen (USD $29 million) between 2018 and 2024. The matter came to light around February 2024 following a notice from the Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau, and approximately 1.8 billion yen has already been recovered.

According to the complaint, the manager—who served as a director of all three companies—oversaw all administrative tasks, including accounting and external negotiations. He transferred funds without authorization from bank accounts in Kurumada’s company’s name to several other companies under his control and arranged for license fees from business partners to be deposited into those accounts.

Kurumada is a native of Tokyo. He made his debut with *Sukeban Arashi* and went on to create numerous popular serialized works in *Weekly Shonen Jump*, including *Ring ni Kakero*. *Saint Seiya*, a massive hit in the 1980s and 1990s, was adapted into an anime and received high acclaim overseas.

Sales Isekai Shikkaku sold over 1.2 million copies worldwide as of July 29, 2026

A bit of a late post, but looking at the most recent chapter raw, one of the main news it said on it that it sold 1.2 million copies worldwide, and remembering the previous sales numbers for its domestic run, both domestic and international sales are pretty much neck to neck when it comes to sales (about over 600k)

So let's go

I'm proud of the creators of this series as this is one of my personal favourite series. Not only their most successful series after so many of their series got axed after Love After World Domination, while got the axe as well was able to make them a lot more well known which led to them gaining a lot more success with running both a weekly and monthly series at the same time

Honestly hope the series will find a translator to translate the newest chapters quickly, otherwise it is stuck with waiting until the most recent official chapters come out when the next English volume comes out, and maybe be able to get a season 2 as well

But for the time being, I'm hoping that this series continues to make this series as successful as it can be
