Frontwing

Info from VNDB:

Frontwing is a Japanese game brand that was founded in April 1999 releasing h-anime visual novels. Their first release, Canary ~Kono omoi wo uta ni nosete~ was released in August 2000. Part of the producers, illustrators, and scenario writers of this project have since moved to GROOVER, a subsidiary of Star Link, claiming that they were freelancers not involved with Frontwing.\n\nAfter the release of The Fruit of Grisaia, translated by Sekai Project in 2014, Frontwing ventured into the overseas market themselves when they established their own fully-fledged localization team in 2015. They officially debuted with The Leisure of Grisaia in 2016. \n\nOn March 16, 2021, 50% of the brand was acquired by Bushiroad, becoming their subsidiary.\n\n[Edited from Wikipedia (en) and Wikipedia (ja), partially based on Frontwing's official report]\n\nEnglish website

Question As you know, PHANTOM OF INFERNO is coming to Steam in two days, so I wanted to ask. Do you think people should play this new version without the H-scenes, or the old one instead? Some games are fine without H-scenes, but in others, their absence weakens the bond between the characters.

Do you think we’ll ever see Muramasa on Steam? Also, there’s something I don’t quite understand... When eroge games are released, they often come to Steam alongside an optional R18 patch on the same day. Why don’t we see that with more “literary” visual novels? Is it something to do with the companies?

I can really recommend this one! It's tagged as self-promo since my game is on there as well (Monster Girl Therapy), but the team seemed incredibly motivated and did a LOT to connect game devs and influencers. Accordingly, this week should be a good time to catch a new visual novel or two in streams... or just a nice little discount. 8D

I'm definitely getting the new Sucker for Love!

Question Ever feel like you've read all the best VNs already?

I was looking through what I've already read and I've realised that I've already done all of the big names. There's maybe a few left that I haven't done, but we're talking single digits at this point.

I'm about 2/3 of the way through Baldr Sky now and while I'm loving it so far, I'm getting this sensation that once I reach the end, that'll be one more VN off the list (on a list that is already getting quite short).

I don't really want to read 7 out of 10 slop for the remainder of my time in this genre and I'll be honest, I don't really have the time to learn Japanese nor the inclination so really I can only read fan-patched or officially translated novels anyway.

This is less a "what should I read next" and more a bittersweet reflection that I don't think I will find anything that makes me feel the same way that Fata Morgana, Steins; Gate, Clannad, Umineko, Subahibi etc etc etc made me feel.

Weekly Monthly "What's Been Going On?" Thread - Sep 1

Welcome to the Monthly "What's Been Going On?" thread!

Every Friday we used to have a "Off-topic" thread, but it's been inconsistently active.

We're going to try a topic where you can say what you've been doing outside of visual novels every month. Feel free to say anything about yourself you feel comfortable sharing like favorite games, movies, your job, how's school going, or any other interests you might have.

You can keep using this thread as the regular Off-Topic Thread if you like.

Highschool J is a psychological horror yuri VN with romance, religious themes, and a glitch-inspired aesthetic.

Yuki lives an ordinary life, weighed down by debt, school, and poems she shares with no one. Then a mysterious transfer student arrives in her class.

Some presences cannot be resisted. You can only surrender.

We’ve just opened the Steam page for the game, so I’d really appreciate it if you could give it a look.

Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5111980/Highschool_J/

I’ve attached some of our illustrations and visual material from the game. Thanks for taking a look

Self-promotion We just released a new trailer for our retro shop sim hybrid VN!

Hi friends! What do you think?

Shop Crush is a mysterious shop simulator with psychological horror elements, set in the early 2000s.

In this hybrid visual novel, you run a small thrift shop, get to know your customers, figure out what they really want, and decide what to put in front of them. Every customer has their own personality, preferences, and hidden motives - and it’s up to you to figure them out.

Behind each customer is a small psychological mystery waiting to be uncovered. Read their behavior, make the right calls, and balance profit against customer trust as you try to keep the shop running for one more day.

Question How can I extract all the text from a visual novel into a DOC or PDF file, including text from all branching paths?

Post image
2 Upvotes

The attached pic shows the files from Kuroinu installed on my PC. Since there isn't a detailed wiki about it, and the VN contains many lore details that are never mentioned in the anime (unironically), autistic me wants to catalog all the world, character and history lore.

The problem is, I don't want to painstakingly read through everything and catalog it manually. I'd rather extract all the text as quickly as possible and then have an AI analyze and organize it for me.

How can I do that using these files?

VN Request Best dark humor vn?

Looking for vn specifically for some great dark humor. I’ve played plenty of dark vn but they’re usually very serious in tone so I’m looking for something that’s more light but still dark. It can still have serious moments but I want it to be funny in the darkest way possible.

Language and platform doesn’t matter. I’ve already played all the rance games.

Question What are you guys favorite Utsuge works?

Just curious because I was considering getting into the genre of visual novels as I keep debating with myself if I should get the Steam version of Kanon for someone looking for such an experience.

However, I would like to know if the Steam version of Kanon has any changes specifically made for the USA version since I would like to know what is the best way to experience the visual novel again just in case certain versions have alterations.

Discussion Visual Novels that you would have enjoyed more if the gameplay content was removed?~

Post image
627 Upvotes

Saw a thread recently complementing gameplay in vns on this subreddit... and I thought about how some vns would have been legit better for me if they didn't have gameplay at all...

Easiest example that comes to my mind, and that's because of how much anons complained about it... is Heaven Burns Red, Key's latest visual novel... you can't believe how many of them I have seen who dropped the story because of the game or didn't even start it because of it... even though all of them always talk about how they wish they could just read the story that did succeed in attracting them and is clearly one of the highest quality vns that were ever made in the industry..... personally?... I don't dislike those sections, if anything? I believe they were utilized in a good way and they are very forgiving for people who are not into playing video games (like me), and are even fun sometimes.... but I 100% get the ones who didn't want any gameplay to begin with or were afraid of the FIFA monetization systems... at some point I was always trying to fix their misinformation about it, but I realized that the game is getting an offline version in the foreseeable future and they would have their chance with it when the time comes....

Other than that... even though I did enjoy the Zero Escape series gameplay? I ain't finna lie... sometimes? I thought "Just let me see the story already and stop this puzzleee!!!!!" ...... I was stuck in some of them for such a long time that it broke my immersion with the scene T-T even though Uchikoshi was very smart in how he injected those sections with some of the funniest and most fun writing in the whole game, it just prevented me from getting angry but I was still a little bit frustrated with them... this is true for just 999 and Virtue's Last Reward... Zero Time Dilemma? That one was very straightforward and felt like the puzzles were there just for the vibes of the series @_@

Rika Suzuki vns have good gameplay and even though I was playing them on my phone, I can still see how great those mechanics were for the 3DS players..... but that game loop.... the fact I was going in circles whenever I got a new item or was about to solve a new puzzle and sometimes I went through the whole map just to do my best in not missing out on any interaction or missable items/lines.... her games really activated my OCD T-T For Hotel Dusk and Last Window, I was playing with a guide... don't get me wrong, I only used it when I felt super stuck in the game and after I finished the section I was playing... I used that The Let's Play Archive site guide, which btw might be the greatest and highest quality way of making a guide? That site is truly amazing... the guide listed everything that could be missed in that section and even some notes that were fun to read about the game @_@ That guide is something I missed so much when I played Another Code... I missed multiple items and probably some interactions also, I was sure that I missed an ending?... I tried to check online for the most important stuff but I'm sure that I didn't do a thorough job with it like how I did with her previous games... because honestly? I liked the game but didn't really love it... and the biggest reason is because I am decided to play the remake which I will 100% for sure V-V before I play the sequel~

NEEDY GIRL OVERDOSE made me nearly cry because of how bugged my version was and how many times I lost my saves... it wasn't the game's fault, it was mine... but still, I really wished I could get those endings easier... even when I forced my male cord friend to play it, who is btw a very big gamer, he also mentioned how mundane getting those endings was @_@ and what really made me wish it was more vn-ish than game-ish?... That fandisc it got..... that 1 hour of pure visual novel? It won my heart and made me assured that Nyalra can actually write T-T This made me super hyped for his next game, Sister Other Paranoia, when I learned that it will be a pure vn this time with no gameplay sections... am going to get some real KINO with it T-T

As someone who enjoyed Hanachirasu a lot... I had some very high hopes for Kaigen Seito, especially after I found out it was the game that had that one VN girl I used to see a lot when I was younger on some obscure board that talks about anime.... what did I get?.... a video game with barely any visual novel parts.... it was like 9 hours of playing and 1 hour of VN?....... that made me nearly cry ,-, especially with how Nitroplus is one of my favorite developers and they stopped making VNs, so I won't have that many of them left to read...... I didn't hate the gameplay, but I just didn't think this VN should have been that focused on it when we were waiting for.... more story?...... and also, it was grindy ~_~ but it was still way more fun than Kaigen's Ambition @__@ That one was just dreadful to go through and actually win.... I think I just won once and then gave up on it and watched the other endings on YouTube... which btw, you should do that because it is canon..... wtf is wrong with you, Nitroplus ,-,

Dohna Dohna's grindy grind....... I didn't like this game, especially that gameplay that I didn't care about at all.... I would've been fine if it was just there to let the story pass, but Alicesoft, the devils, made it legit grindy..... I remember grinding for like +3 hours in the boss before the last boss just to barely beat him and ended up breaking the balance of the game for me afterward........ worst offense? I legit only learned about the fact you could speed up battles with the press of a button..... in my 2nd walkthrough T-T .... and that walkthrough was speedrunning everything so it didn't last that long...... if I knew about this function? I think my +60 hours in this game might have ended up being 10 hours less at least..... :(

I started the Baldr series this year with their first game ever, Baldrhead...... I don't hate the gameplay, this series must have it, I understand.... but why the hell is this game so hard it made me nearly crash out?..... oh wait, I did crash out multiple times because of it!!!..... zero guides online, and being a JOP-baby, and not a gamer to begin with made me misunderstand one move that would've made this game a walk in the park for me..... but for those who were like me?..... this game is easily one of the hardest murige kusoge to ever exist...... no visual novel should have hard gameplay like that T-T

Question Hoshizora no Memoria is on sale, is the 18+ patch a must?

Usually I would use 18+ patch but in my region it costs as much as the base game on Steam 😭 Will its absence greatly impact the game, or is it more like a bonus?
