I've been having trouble with my hips recently and this morning was extra painful. train pulls up and only the front doors with steps open, so I pushed the accessible door button on the outside. I pushed it about 4 times. train starts and pulls off. I am so sorry to any more often disabled folks if this is a regular occurrence and not a one off fluke

30 minute wait for a bus at rush hour? When is the T going back to buses every 10 mins?

I reported on see say but if you’re at north station looking for forest hills the sign is wrong.

Posting this to ask if anyone’s tried out the new transfer system, or if there were any hiccups. I’d love to know if anyone entered the wrong track side at Boylston or similar stations, and used it to get on the correct side after exiting the fare gates.

Also, I’d love to know if anyone tested the limits, i.e., transferred across multiple buses and subway lines, or walked from anywhere between Back Bay and State on the Orange Line to anywhere between Prudential and Government Center on the Green Line, or vice versa, instead of waiting for Haymarket or North Station. I’m also curious if anyone got out somewhere to stop at a store quickly, then returned to where you got out, and moved along.

TLDR: I’m curious if anyone utilized the new transfer system to make free transfers the old system didn’t allow for. I’m planning on testing it out myself tomorrow, but I’m curious what everybody else experienced on Day 1.

I use the online timetable almost exclusively. Google maps is cool, but sometimes lags behind after schedule updates. I just wish delays and track changes informed the online timetable. Like maybe adjusted the time and put it in red if a delay alert is up for that trip? Or used a little red track change icon at stations where unscheduled track changes are happening?

I've also been using MBTA Go, but don't fine it's UI or UX really intuitive. I wish I could just SEE where trains are on a selected line instead of having to select a specific trip.

I stopped relying on paper schedules, and even the schedule posters in stations... They won't be good until everything replaced by screens or e-ink and can update as quickly as the website. Or until we get some magic Hogwarts paper.

I just realized the unlimited transfer system that starts tomorrow will be a total lifesaver to anyone who enters the wrong side of a station like Boylston, where you have to exit the fare gates and go back outside to get to the correct side. Unless you get to the correct side after the two hour window closes, it sounds like you won’t be charged another $2.40 just because you made an honest mistake.

Hey guys, I lost my passport today around 5:00 PM on the Green Line. I took the C line from Coolidge Corner, and changed at Kenmore, and took the B line to Allston. It probably slipped out of my pocket somewhere on the train as I remembered it was there during the beginning of the journey.

I already retraced my entire route and talked to the staff and officers at all the stations, but no one had it turned in yet. I have already contacted lost and found but they said no one had returned it yet. I am gonna try again tomorrow as one of the staff members said that they do a thorough sweep at night.

Oh this morning has been lovely!! I missed the orange line :)

I remember there previously were plans to extend the Orange Line past oak grove to the Commuter Rail stations (Wyoming Hill, Melrose/Cedar Park, Melrose Highlands, Wakefield, and up to Reading). It could pose some much needed transit expansions, as currently, the transit situation in places like Wakefield and Melrose really only have a couple infrequent buses, and the Commuter Rail. And, it would make the growing Melrose region much more connected to the rest of Boston. Only problem would be, as usual, the funding!

Once upon a time, a person could easily board the D line at North Station without hoping to squeeze on. Remember those days when it was the first stop? Now that they have extended the D line to Medford/Tufts when it shows up North Station it is jam packed. It is possible to squeeze on most of the time, but then there is not room for others from there on until we get to Kenmore when the passengers unload.

Is the T considering a way to improve this? Honestly, I think the train operators are more frustrated than the passengers because it delays everything with people trying to squeeze on.

I got my first M7 this summer, and I’m wondering does it roll over automatically for the school year or do I need to do something to renew it?

I’m an out of district student who lives in Boston, I applied via the BPS help desk for my summer pass.

The current practice of having a second operator sitting in the dark cab of the second vehicle in Green Line trains doing absolutely nothing is atrocious and wasteful. No other light rail system worldwide does this and it's totally unnecessary.

While it's likely subject to negotiation in labor agreements, it is a ridiculous practice that should be ended, and there has to be some way to do that, whether by attrition or buyouts or moving the employees to other roles like increased off peak service levels or fare enforcement and customer service.

Is there any valid reason to have a second operator? Do they perform any function at all?

An example: take a fairly ”normal” round trip commute from Southborough to MGH

Southborough Station parking: $6

Southborough - South Station (zone 6) ticket: $10.50 x 2 = $21

South Station - MGH red line fare: $2.40 x 2 = $4.80

Total: $31.80, yet 1/3 ($10.80) of that is coming from parking and subway.

That’s 2-3 gallons of gas, which could get you ~50-60 miles depending on the vehicle. TLDR: the amount you have to pay just to park and get “last mile” transportation costs the same as gas to drive into the city. There isn’t really a value add from the T in this case

In regards to the death at Forest Hills people are calling for more precautions.

Given that the train needs access to the third rail and passengers need access to the train when it arrives what further precautions can they do beyond the annoucement they make to stand back from the yellow line?

I would have to think to do is have an emergency panic button nearby to get the attention of T personel at the station and/or the train operator.

What part of "stand back from the yellow line" do people not understand?

I take the Franklin Line every weekend. Sometimes, I transfer to/from Providence for service to/from Back Bay/Ruggles, as I did both inbound and out yesterday, then outbound today. Both times going outbound, I had to guide more than one person away from track five, which they reasonably assume is where it will be because it says “Franklin“ on it, when in reality, it stops at track four. The Franklin Line conductors are good about announcing the need to transfer to track two when going inbound, but the outbound Providence conductors need to make it clear to go to track four. Yes, the information is easily accessible on the website, but not everyone pays that close attention to it, because you have to tap or hover the mouse over the track change icon for it to say “track four.” I can live with having to do the transfer if I want to go to Back Bay/Ruggles, or happen to be closer to one of those or Hyde Park, but if the Franklin Line’s going via Fairmount on any day of the week, there needs to be clearer communication with where to go.
