♥️ /r/metalgearsolid rules update.

Hello, I hope everybody is well.

This is a quick post to announce that we have overhauled and updated the subreddit rules, in terms of the way they are listed in the reddit platform itself.

In essence the practical rules themselves and moderation has not changed. The main purpose of this update is to provide better clarity with Post removal messages, and to allow reports to be more specific.

You can read the new rule titles and their descriptions here.

Just three changes to note:

  • There is no longer a rule about spoilers when it comes to Posts. MGSV is over a decade old, and the spoiler rule was often used to report front page posts about the main spoiler for that game. Enforcing that is simply impractical. The intention of the rule remains, however, and it is now only applied to comments. If someone has stated that they haven't played the entire series, all users are still expected to respect this in their replies. Anyone can make their own choices about how far they dig through a subreddit for a game series, but putting spoilers in their inbox is actively hostile.

  • "Promotional Cosplay is not allowed". This is our attempt to provide a consistent rule that can be used to filter OF accounts looking for loopholes, while not punishing genuine cosplayers (including professionals) by restricting their activity. There's an element of subjectivity here, but if you think a post is a commercial account, please report it and do not engage in abuse in the comments. Just report it and move on.

  • AI content is now explicitly banned in all its forms. This was already functionally the case but we're making it clear with it's own rule. If you suspect a post contains AI content, please try to resist posting abuse in the comments and simply report and move on. False allegations can and do happen.

We'd also like to welcome anyone interested to apply to be a moderator. We expect to bring on a couple more people, starting out at a basic clutter removal role. If you think you'd be a good fit, please take some time to fill out our delightful application form.

You'll notice there are a couple of very specific rules that are really covered under other rules. These are for particularly egregious and common posts so that removals are very clear. Previously quite a few things kind of had to fall under "no low effort content" and that gave off the wrong idea and could be a little hurtful.

We'd like to thank the people who take the time to report posts and comments, overall the tone and discernment of reports is very much in-line with how we see the rules and how they are intended to shape the subreddit. This being said, all things considered there are very few removals needed relative to an active subreddit of this size. Things seem to be in a very good balance. I hope the community more or less thinks the same.

As per usual we are open to any and all feedback or discussion about the rules or the way you want the community to be run, so please say your piece in the comments, or if there's any questions you have or unclear rules or edge cases you can think of, bring that up too. The overall intent for the subreddit is still to provide an alternative to what you might see on a Metal Gear Discord, Instagram / TikTok etc. feed or a generic MGS-flavoured meme subreddit.

mostly been collecting PS games ( US and Japan ) and the MGS featured PS consoles…

Awaiting Arrival:
- Japanese MGS Integral on PS1
- Japanese MG Rising Revengence Exclusive Edition
- Japanese MGS Peacewalker Premium Package

Still on the hunt:
- MG Rising PS3 Super Slim CIB console
- MGS 3 PS2 CIB console
- MGS Peacewalker PSP CIB console
- MGS Portable Ops PSP CIB console
- MGS 2 Substance (standalone US copy)

Probably won’t get most of those exclusive consoles bc they are rare and above my budget on eBay if I ever see them…but proud of my little collection - now time to get the platinum again in MGS4 and Peacewalker on Vol. 2!!!

I'm honestly still baffled that MGSV removed the "counter-CQC" enemies from 4 and PW. (and didnt bring other PW ideas like scouts that hid around trees/in foliage to ambush you, it really needed more enemy types.)

MGSV Can we all agree MGSV has one of the best first hour in video games ever. I was hooked instantly. This game suffered the opposite of MGS4 with not having as much cutscenes. Kojima oversteered in the other direction.

MGSV Do you see Ground Zeroes more as an epilogue to Peace Walker or a prologue/demo for The Phantom Pain?

it was probably beneficial that PW came out so late in PSP console's life cycle, it's one of the most impressive PSP game from visual and technical perspective.

This is the greatest moment of my life. I was playing MGSV roaming around the world and after clearing a outposts and Smasei Fort. I fast traveled to the Barracks and extracted some resource containers. I called in the chopper and when I got the summary of actions and all with the animals I caught, Kaz called and said to return to base. It was then when the cutscene happened. I don't know if it is a bug though I think it is due to the 40 phantom nukes. Sorry of the bad quality and any grammatical mistakes I made. My laptop is not a gaming laptop . Yes, Ocelot's line about the nukes being back was said. What luck I have

It's an Oliver Moss Styled front cover for Metal Gear Solid 2

I left an Empty version, without any logos, so you could repurpose it if you want to

If you want this for your Steam library, you can check out my SteamgridDB profile and download it from there

I'll be making one for each entry in the series as well... MGS4 is next

[Vol.2 MGS4] Maxed sensitivity settings painfully slow on controller

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

(About rule 13, I took video of TV-screen to showcase with controller in frame, hope that's okay)

Anyone else experiencing camera acceleration as painfully slow? It really sucks the joy out of playing it for me as it is today. I have the sensitivity values maxed out but it still feels incredibly slow, unresponsive and sluggish. The "Normal View" camera speed feels alright in comparison but the Over-the-shoulder and First Person View cameras feel super weird.

I'm aware it was the same on PS3 version but I figured we would have moved past that and have gotten tweaked values in the remaster. It's especially frustrating because the mouse control on PC is phenomenal and super responsive in comparison. I really hope they can address this in a future patch

Heres the experience of a GenZ finally finishing MGS series for the first time

I played the first 2 MGS games during high school in 2020. Needless to say especially MGS2 left a huge mark on my life and I’m still trying to find the same feeling I had when I finished that game. For my whole life I constantly felt as though I was completely trapped by life and determinism. How it makes the tragedies in our own lives inevitable, how it makes you lose confident in yourself, to not even know what is real. I legit felt as though people who developed this game were talking to me through the screen.

Solid Snake became one of my role models and especially Raiden became my favourite character of all time (I even got a tattoo of Raiden on my arm). I tried playing MGS3 but the emulator on my low end PC was unplayable, until the Master Collection released I couldn’t experience it. Then I got through MGS3 and MGSV (which I played through twice). I personally loved MGSV a lot more than most MGS fans.

I knew MGS4 was a very controversial instalment in the series so I tried to block out others opinion to give the game a fair shot. I personally ended up loving the game. To me it was a very emotional experience. I wasn’t expecting how depressing it would be... Seeing my childhood hero old, miserable and actively dying was a lot more difficult than I thought. Same with Raiden, their scene where Snake tries to convince him to live his life as a person and not as a weapon was one of the highlights of the entire series for me. Seeing Raiden in the ground grabbing on Snakes legs broke something in me. Especially the scene where Otacon deletes the AI, only for us to see Snake hyperventilating and struggling to breathe on the ground almost made me cry.

However theres some bad in the final game. It legit feels like some aliens who have no idea how humans work wrote the romance scenes and forced Kojima to implement them in to the game. Every single romance scene at best made me roll my eyes and at worst made me pause the game for 10 minutes to prepare myself to continue endure the rest.

From what I have seen a lot of fandom either thinks the series should have ended at MGS2 and hate MGS4 or think MGSV had a bad story and had no point. Despite knowing Kojima was forced to keep making new MGS games I’m glad we have all the games. I think each and every one of them add so much to the story. I think this might be also because I value themes very heavily in stories and Kojima is known for putting themes over anything in a story so it’s a perfect match for me.

I have been trying to fight against determinism my whole life. Be it against my upbringing and the horrible traumas I had to heal through. Or obsessing over my genetic weaknesses, training my body so intensely to the point of being unhealthy. But just like Big Boss said in the end. Obsessing over this cage, will cause you to make a smaller cage for yourself and others. You have to stop fighting against it and live as a human.

And yes now I will play Peace Walker and go in to depression because I will have no MGS game left to experience…
