Video [Aeterna Lucis] We spent months optimizing the world streaming to ensure ZERO loading screens between biomes. How important is seamless traversal for your immersion?

Hey everyone!

One of our main design goals for Aeterna Lucis was keeping the pace unbroken. Whether you are chaining dashes through high-precision platforming or transitioning into a completely different biome, the entire world loads dynamically in real time without a single loading screen.

We had to put a ton of optimization work into making this run smoothly across PC and consoles (Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch).

Would love to hear your thoughts: do seamless transitions enhance your immersion, or do you not mind quick loading breaks as long as the biomes feel distinct?

Video After all that testing, we still found a hidden stability bug...

These past few weeks, we thought everything was solid—we'd fixed all the obvious issues and felt pretty good about the build.

Then—out of nowhere—a stability bug tied to the parry system showed up. The kind that doesn't scream at you. The kind that lurks in the background, waiting for the worst possible moment to ruin someone's experience.

But hey, we caught it, and we fixed it. Honestly, that's just part of the dev journey. Testing is exhausting!

To celebrate—here's a parry compilation from our game "The Light of Vertical".

This is the combat system we've been polishing for so long. Snappy. Responsive. Satisfying.

Still a long road ahead, but moments like this remind me why we keep going.

Discussion Aeterna Lucis will have a gameplay trailer on Septhember 10th along with the release date announcement

Just a quick fyi. I know there are quite some people - myself included - who love Aeternum Noctis. The sequel Aeterna Lucis will finally get a release date announcement on September 10th along with a new gameplay trailer. It's in their newest x post which I cannot link here sadly, since my PC at work is blocking X. But you can check for yourself.

Just thought that it might excite some of you. Gonna post the trailer and actual release date at September 10th.

Discussion Mio is so great... what else should I try??

Hi, I posted recently, and someone recommended the game,Mio. Oh my G, it's brilliant - I love the graphics.

As a fan of Silk Song, Nine Sols, and Hollow Knight, the artwork & music are so important.

Are there any over games that I should know about? I can't believe I hadn't heard of Mio!

Thanks for the tip 😊

Hey everyone!

We’ve just opened a limited-time Steam Playtest for Rising Fox, our 2D action metroidvania.

The current build lets you try the game and help us catch bugs, balance issues, and anything that feels off before we keep moving toward release.

We’d especially love feedback on:

  • Combat and abilities
  • Movement and controls
  • Exploration / level design
  • Difficulty and progression
  • Bugs or unexpected behavior

If you’re interested, you can request access directly through Steam:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3832050/Rising_Fox/

Any feedback is genuinely useful, and you can also leave it in the Steam Community discussions.

Thanks for checking it out! 🦊

I really struggle with pixel art but I can’t out this game down.

Really enjoyable

Anyone else’s thoughts on who’ve played it (I’m 26% through so far)

Considering giving blasphemous games another chance after ditching them previously

Has anyone played t his and know how to get the secret where I'm standing? I've trying to figure out for a while now and it's really hard to find any guides specifically for the collectibles in game.

Discussion Looking for recommendation

I really like metroidvenias, so I'm looking to add a new one to my collection.

So far I've played through Hollow Knight, Silksong, both Oris and Prince of Persia the Lost Crown.
I like good combat, but the most important aspects for me are smooth and satisfying movement and especially good exploration. I love getting completely absorbed in the game world while exploring, marking down all the spots that I can't reach and daydream about what upgrade might help me getting past an obstacle. I especially like when the game puts me at a crossroad where all the roads are equally valid ways to progress and being able to craft my own experience from that decision.

Looking around for metroidvenias praised for their exploration, I've found Afterimage being mentioned many times, do you think that would be the right fit for my taste?
What other games would you suggest?

Thank you!

I heard you loud and clear. I removed all AI from my trailer to focus on pure, hand-coded gameplay (Échos de l'abîme).

Hey everyone. Yesterday , I posted a trailer for my solo project, Échos de l'abîme. You rightfully called me out for using AI-generated art for the lore intro. I thought it would make the game look more "professional" since I have zero budget for art, but I completely missed the point of what makes indie games special.

I took your feedback to heart, deleted the AI slideshow, and recut the trailer to show exactly what I've spent months building entirely from scratch in Vanilla JavaScript (no engine).

Here is the actual game: just Kaelen, the combat, the platforming, and the boss fights. Thank you for the reality check, it was a tough but necessary lesson. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the actual mechanics and level design now.

For those interested, there is a playable demo on my itch.io page.

Hello guys

I’m excited to share that the demo for Dark Monastery has finally passed Steam review and is now available to play!

Dark Monastery is a dark fantasy 2D action RPG with metroidvania-style exploration. You’ll fight your way through a cursed monastery filled with undead creatures, forbidden magic, dangerous enemies, hidden areas, and powerful bosses.

The game features fast-paced melee combat, magical abilities, character progression, loot, crafting, and enchanting.

This demo is an important milestone for me, and I’d really appreciate your feedback would be nice hear about combat, controls, difficulty, atmosphere, and any bugs you encounter.
