My mini Aussie, Ruby, is a whopping 15 pounds. She belonged to my now deceased great grandmother. I adopted her when she was 8 and now she’s 9. She was overweight and has last 2 pounds in the last year. I don’t know much about her puppy days since I didn’t have her then. Is 15 pounds normal? Is there a such thing as a mini MINI Aussie?? Everyone that sees her thinks she’s an Australian shepherd puppy. She’s an ideal weight per her vet but I’m just curious if she’s a common size! Is she just a little Ruby runt?
Surprisingly, yes! She’s quite an odd dog. She wasn’t harness trained when we got her so when we put the harness on her she kind of just fell over. She’s very trusting of humans and lets us hold her like a baby. Very different from my precious dog! Since her human (my great grandmother) died, I think her mentality is “oh this is just what these people do” and she goes along with anything. She doesn’t have lots of thoughts in her brain and she only just learned the word walk so she’s kind of just an “along for the ride” type of dog.
My previous dog was MUCH more resistant to the backpack. We hardly put her in it because it stressed her out.
Purebred doesn’t mean well bred if she is. She could be a “toy Aussie” which no reputable breeder breeds for. There’s no AKC toy Aussie. Currently they are known as Miniature American Shepherds. You can do embark DNA (I recommend). Embark doesn’t test for “toy” but she would show as miniature if she was only miniature. Sometimes toy breeders add other small breeds into the mix (further down the line)
