They said "100k and a months planning and work", so the time is on top of that. I'm not seeing more than 30k material.

The wood panels and insulation maybe No but electrical and all the proper connections ands fasteners and sliders and hindges actually add up quick. A built dresser is like 500 bucks sometimes. This ignores all the tools needed.
